Growing up in Ky, there was a Dairy Freeze, Dairy Mart, Tasty Freeze, Big Dipper, Frosty Freeze, Dairy Hut and The Barrel of Fun. They all had Burgers and Ice Cream in common. Most have been torn down with the coming of a Dairy Queen, Sonic or Culver’s to name a few. For this place it may say Dairy Freeze on the sign. But it’s always been lovingly called«Island Burgers». Being nestled in the town of Island and having the Best Burgers around was the reason. Alas, I’m sure with budget cuts of trying to compete, I’m left thinking the crowds still come for the nostalgia not the Burgers. Or maybe after years of having the luxury to have eaten burgers elsewhere, the olé’ Island Burger just doesn’t taste the same. Either way, the history is still there and the patrons keep coming. If you’ve not had the opportunity to walk up to the window to give an order, it’s a must to remember how things used to be. Grab your burgers when your number is called and then just Sit down with your family under the pavilion, talking about how things were when you grew up. You won’t regret it. Enjoy!
