Well I guess that I will be in the minority on this one. I was introduced to Rudy’s by a coworker this week who really likes this place for Mexican food, stating that it was much better than a place that I frequent that is just across the street. I am always game for new things, so I thought I would try it. Unfortunately I was not impress with the food. I got the tamale lunch special. They were smothered in a chili con carne and frankly I thought that they were lacking flavor. The chips here are also thick and I thought they tasted a little strange. The two best parts of our visit was the speed of which lunch came out, and the salsa was really pretty good. I had not read the reviews on Unilocal prior to going, so I will probably give it another chance and try the taco meat, but this time was not something that inspired me.

Rudy’s is a perfect example of why«holes in the wall» make for great culinary experiences. Affordable and delicious, I would recommend Rudy’s to anyone looking for authentic and great-tasting Mexican food.

Not the greatest chips/salsa but the Fajitas were great and the staff was very friendly/on the ball.

The Sour Cream Chicken Enchiladas, salsa and bean and cheese nachos are some of the best you will ever put your lips on…

Definitely one of the best Mexican places I’ve found in the Irving area. The chips were really good and they are on their game when it comes to service. The prices are reasonable and they good quality was perfect. As everyone else is saying, make sure to get something with ground beef! The taco was absolutely perfect!

Awesome taco meat! Small place but very friendly and quick. Food was good but it just seemed like something was missing. Overall I’d go back again.

The chip that come with the meal were fantastic. Cheap prices. Ninja servers on refills, but easily the best part was the ground beef for the tacos

I got take out. For $ 9.75 I received three small enchiladas covered in queso and some chips and salsa. Maybe the meal would have been better had I stayed at the restaurant but I doubt it.

Fast and friendly service. The salsa served with the complementary chips was great. The enchiladas were tasty. I would go back for more.

I would give this 3 and ½ stars if I could. We don’t come here very often because it’s a little out of our way, but are always glad when we do. The lady greeting you at the door is so nice and friendly without being pushy. The staff seems to be genuinely glad that you’re there. We got our drinks quickly and the waiter was patient while we perused the menu. I got a combo plate with a soft cheese taco(which I would call a cheesy cheese enchilada…), a sour cream beef enchilada and a sour cream chicken enchilada. I loved every bite of it. It’s neighborhood Tex-Mex at it’s best and my plate was wiped clean at the end of the meal. Nothing fancy, but just good food. I really loved the sour cream beef enchilada. Like the chips and sauce — creamy, instead of chunky salsa. Had a nice kick to it. I keep forgetting Rudy’s is here because we live quite a way from it, but from the diners packing the room, you can tell it’s a very popular neighborhood go-to Tex-Mex place. Very enjoyable and great service!

We were hungry and in a hurry to get to a meeting. Thought we’d try out this inconspicuous Mexican restaurant. Wow, were we blown away. Friendly, fast service, comfortable, clean atmosphere. You could tell they take pride in what they do. Food is excellent prices are awesome. Very cozy, family friendly atmosphere. One of my new favorite Mexican restaurants. Check them out!!!

Great staff and great authentic Mexican food. When visiting our Dallas office, the staff is always quick to accommodate our large party on short notice.

And the quest for a new restaurant every time out in Irving continues. Arrived at 5:15PM on a Wednesday evening. The service was exceptional. Between my wife and I we had a Wednesday Enchalada special, Flautas, Ab Ala Carte taco and and a tamale. The food was delivered quickly and hot. The flavors where good without excessive hot. The tamales have a good ballance of Mesa to Meat. 5he flautas are delicious but a little on the greasy side. The servings are a little smaller than I expected but no one left hungry. All in all good fast and hot with a reasonable price.

Looking at my old review, my opinion of this place has not changed. This is not the best Mexican food in Dallas, but if you are looking for the traditional Mexican lunch special, they do it as well as anyone. Rudy’s special comes with a taco(I don’t know how they make ground beef taste so good), enchilada, rice and beans, and free sweet tea. The salsa isn’t anything fancy, but it’s damn good and consistent.

Great family run tex-mex food. Great service fast and friendly. Try their sour cream chicken enchiladas. Chips and salsa are great as well.

This is an old restaurant and has been in this location for a long time. The food is just average and the service slightly below average. The service is slow, and they will not refill your water glass unless you can find the waiter, The hot sauce is very mild. I have actually drank it from the bowl to prove how tame it is. Not a bad place to go once in a while, but not my favorite Tex-Mex food by any means.

This is our favorite Mexican restaurant in DFW. We have been coming here since 1987. We moved out of Dallas for several years but just purchased another home in Denton and will be moving back soon. We came back to Rudy’s today to celebrate the closing of our house. They have the best chicken and beef fajitas and their salsa will burn the hairs in your nose. It is family owned and operated. It is a small restaurant but it is cozy and friendly. Best Mexican food around and worth our drive here.

This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in dfw! It certainly qualifies as «hole in the wall» so know that going in. It is owned by Rudy who is sometimes there, and his wife is always there to host you. The couple of waiters are also extremely nice and accommodating. Like most Mexican places you get complimentary chips and hot sauce, when I say hot sauce know its usually hotter than any other restaurant. It is also the BEST hands down, I usually get some to go after the meal. Chips are almost always fresh, crispy, greasy and delicious. Your drink will never get below half full as they are constantly refilling your drinks, something that all too common does not happen other places. This is important because like the hot sauce the food also has a kick! I usually get the #14 one meat taco, a tostada with guacamole and two enchiladas(I sub cheese enchiladas for the beef it comes with) their beef enchiladas are great, but their cheese is amazing. The taco meat is excellent with fresh cold lettuce and tomato, and again amazing grated cheddar. The tostada with guacamole looks simple, but its the freshest best tasting avocado I’ve ever eaten(every time.). If you want a sample of everything go with the Rudy special. I take anyone I can to Rudy’s and without fail they all have loved it. Modest pricing, BYOB, great prompt service, amazing food! Give it a whirl, they never disappoint!

Went for the 1st time yesterday based on recommendations and reviews,(most positive). Got chicken fajitas to go. The chicken fajitas, with a pink hue???, had absolutely NOFLAVOR. The rice and beans had perfect consistency. The rice was tender the beans were not too thick or thin but once again NOFLAVOR. There was a nice portion of guacamole but I had to mix it with the pico de gallo for anything resembling taste. Yeah the salsa is good but it’s salsa! Big deal. As for authenticity, well there are far better places not very far away. The lady at the front who took and delivered my order was very sweet and the place was packed so I’ll probably give it one more try. But 1st impressions were not good at all.
