My wife and I had a nice prime rib meal here the Sunday before Christmas. The English pub setting was well decorated with a big Christmas tree and festive lighting. Service was fine, and cocktails were perfect. The standards of creamed spinach and Yorkshire pudding were right on target. Our prime rib cuts were cooked correctly, although the centers were a bit fatty. Otherwise we were very pleased.

We we there around 6:30PM on a Sunday night for a birthday and our party was 7 people. Here’s a brief overview of our experience. We waited a long, long time for our food and when we finally got it, everything was cold. The manager or greeter was very nice and tried his best to make things right. The dreary, dark décor was 70’ish and the menu was very expensive for the taste and quality of the food. For roast beef, it’s an OK place, but I had seafood linguini which was tasteless, my wife had the beef ribs, which weren’t too bad, but her potatoes had no flavor. The creamed corn is unbelievably great and shouldn’t be missed. Others in our group had prime rib, no complaints, rib steak, very thinly cut, and tasteless salmon. The shrimp cocktail gave you 6 nice jumbo shrimp for $ 15, pricey for an appetizer. We brought our own wines, including Champagne to avoid their very pricey offerings, but the corking charge was $ 15 per bottle. We were all disappointed. The last time I was there was back in the early eighties, and now I know why.

This is one of the worst restaurants I have ever been to before. Everything I ate was subpar and I wasn’t even able to finish everything. While providing a different atmosphere, it looked cheap and not somewhere where you would expect to pay over $ 70 for two people. The menus looked very cheap, something you would easily be able to make on Microsoft word and the uniforms worn by the employees were not very appropriate. It felt as if I was at a Hooters. However, the one thing this restaurant does have going for it is their meat. We had the filet mignon and the prime rib which were actually fairly good. Overall, this restaurant should be avoided and definitely should not be where you go on a nice date or even for a semi-decent family dinner.

Service was good, but the food could have been better. We had prime rib which was just ok… The creamed spinach was blah and the creamed corn was decent. Overall experience was ok. We had a pretty large party and they were accommodating and friendly, but we probably won’t be back for the food.

I had a couple of Living Social deals that I had to use for this place and first off, I was really annoyed by the fact that the host(the guy that greets you when you come in and takes your name), was adamantly pushing people off to the bar, including myself. I told him I wanted to sit in the dining room and he says that they are all«booked up». It was 5 pm and they had just opened for dinner service and there was no one in the dining room. This really irritated me. I had to tell him three times that I wanted to sit in the dining room and actually had to ask him, «do you have a problem with that?». He finally relented and said I would have to wait for 20 – 30 minutes and I said I was fine with that. I take a seat in the lounge to wait. I watch as several other people came into the restaurant and this guy tells them all they have to go to the bar. It was clear to me that there were reservations for parties at 6 pm and he wanted to make sure that there were going to be tables available for those parties. However, you open dinner service at 5 pm and Gulliver’s has a large dining room, you seat people that come in at 5 pm with no reservations, because there is no one in the dining room at that point anyway. Sorry for the rant, but I believe my experience is relevant under the circumstances. Once I got seated, my server was very nice and the food was typical of Gulliver’s. Decent but not exceptional. Salad was okay, soup was okay, entrée was okay. The best part of the meal was the creamed corn. If I see another Living Social deal for Gulliver’s, I skip it for sure.
