We love this place in our summer travels to the UP. Located atop a hill overlooking town, this is a great place to hang out in the afternoon or evening for lunch, dinner or just ice cream. It is also the best deal on ice cream in town, with generous scoops at a good price. The Stand is essentially a drive-in restaurant with a few outdoor tables. The waitress comes to your car, takes your order and then brings it to you when it’s ready. Our most notable visit was a Friday evening right around sunset. We thought we’d do a fish fry dinner someplace, since that’s a big UP thing to do on Fridays. Sure enough, this place was packed with campers, college kids and families on vacation from as far away as Colorado. We managed to get ourselves a table overlooking the sunset in the distance. Made for a perfect moment: sun going down on a warm summer night as our fish arrived. Nicely breaded cod with these huge onion rings and a platter of fries for us to share. It all made for the total outdoor dining experience you’d never expect to find in Iron River. Good service and pretty fast turnaround time even on a busy night. You can bet we’ll be coming back next year when we’re on vacation here.

Love this place! Great Chicago Dog, burgers, and car hop service. Jilberts ice cream too. So glad the new owner made a quality place!

This is probably one of less than a handful of businesses in this town that doesn’t need improvement in customer service skills. I had a coffee and a burger, both were awesome, even better than expected. On top of that, the staff were genuinely friendly(something very rare in this area). As a result of the good service, these guys can count on me coming back again and even recommending friends and associates to give them a shot before wasting their money in some hateful business elsewhere. It’s funny, this place is only open during the summer and it’s a standing shed, not a big sit down restaurant, yet their customer service beats everyone else by miles. The high school kids who work there could probably give classes to the rest of town on how to run a customer service based business. If you’re a local business owner, and part of the funk dragging this town to desperateville, you might want to watch these kids work and copy their work habits closely.
