I have been in Iowa City for 3 months and this has to be the coolest lil joint. This is not a place for «Yuppies» and that what makes this place special. Strictly American blue collar tavern. If I had to describe it in one word; that word would be: Relaxing. Remember to keep ur CC at the house because the folks only take cash.

I now live in California, but there are basically three places I go to see if they are still open in the ol’ Hometown:
1. Pagliai’s
2. Colonial Lanes
3. The Hilltop
The Hilltop is one of the best bars I have ever been in, and believe me, I have been in a few. It is far away enough from downtown so the D-​Bag quotient remains low, keeps a laid back atmosphere with cheap beers and stiff drinks, popcorn and low cost fried munchies. The bathrooms are covered in scrawls of the inebriated north-​siders who frequent this place, which just adds another layer of bubbly awesomeness.
Pool? Check. Darts? Check. $ 2 baskets of fries? Check. The Hilltop ain’t classy, but it delivers the good every time.
