Is not even worthy of one star. Came here and it was empty. Ordered food for the kids and an hour later we were served awful, awful French onion soup. Left after 1.5 hours before our food came and still got charged $ 100 for beers and 5 French onion soups. Nothing was comped for the worst service in history. DONOTGOHERE.

So disappointed. I took my family here three years ago and had such a warm experience. The food was basic comfort food and I had felt it was an institution you could count on for a solid meal. I really liked it. We took the family tonight and it was a pretty bad experience. You can’t be a family restaurant and have kids under 10 waiting an hour for food. The server was apologetic, but he had two tables complain and another walk out. None of it was his fault. Tables got cold fries and appetizers during our wait. There were no more than ten tables in the whole place. The kitchen served us a less than great meal. It was average at best. This place has really fallen. They need to get their act together. I would have been better off with the hour wait at The Moat.

I got the steak tips here for dinner and they were horrible! It was as though they microwaved them then but then on a grill for the markings! My boyfriend got the buffalo chicken tenders and they were hard as a rock! The only way I would go there again is to drink and thats pushing it!

We went in here with fairly low expectations and unfortunately those weren’t even met. We visited on Friday afternoon of Columbus Day weekend. We were only looking for a drink and an app or two and every other place was fairly busy or we would have had to fight the traffic on the North Conway strip. The bar was very busy, but the dining room wasn’t too bad and we had our choice of tables. I ordered Cathy’s Cosmo, which was fairly low on the booze, but I guess what did I want for $ 7.50? My husband was happy to see Moat’s Helles lager on draft. We ordered the Popeyes Boat(a spinach/cheese casserole type thing) with tortilla chips($ 2 extra) and the Buffalo chicken fingers. Twenty minutes later the waitress comes by to tell us they were out of the Popeye’s boat. It took this long to find out? We asked for a menu to pick something else. Someone else brought the menu and we didn’t see our waitress for a bit to reorder. We went with the cheese nachos, which were described as tortilla chips, covered in cheese, with salsa, jalapeños and sour cream. Then we waited. It was almost an hour before we saw any food. Our nachos arrived with no salsa, no jalapeños and two plastic containers of sour cream. We asked for salsa… and waited for it. We ate the tenders in the meantime and they weren’t bad. They could have used more buffalo flavor though. I would call them extra mild. Our salsa finally arrived and we had our nachos. Eh, they were passable. Again, we had low expectations going in and we were expecting the jarred salsa we received, etc. The bill came and we were charged for the Popeye’s Boat with the chip upcharge instead of the nachos. It took a while for the waitress to come by to point it out and then even longer for her to come back with the corrected bill. The corrected bill had the Popeye’s boat and extra chips had been removed but we weren’t charged for the cheese nachos. I have no idea if this was intentional or not and by that point we had run out of patience, threw cash down(we didn’t have the time to wait for who knows long to run a credit card) and left. The icing on the cake was when we were leaving the hostess was walking out before us and let the door shut in my face. Needless to say, we won’t be returning.

Waiting 45 minutes for a couple of chicken sandwiches. We were told the kitchen was backed up. Not many people here(first clue). Live and learn…

Hmmmm. Best thing was no line where every place else had a hour wait. Eggplant Parm was a soggy mess over limp tasetless pasta. Tuna melt was good. Waitress was very pleasant. Stuffed Quohogs were fair. Somewhat dry and almost all bread. Probably won’t be back. Too bad.

Late afternoon lunch. I enjoyed the burger with sautéed onions and peppers. Good local beer on draft. Window seat area was clean and sunny. Good prices for the local area. Would visit again.

Our waitress was pleasant however the other one seemed to be having a very day. Food was nothing to brag about, far from it. Décor is clean but very, very dated.

I got the eggplant and chicken parm with linguini. Chicken was delish, the eggplant ehh not so much. My boyfriend got the meatloaf melt with fries and a bowl of seafood chowder. He loved it all! Their hand cut fries were wicked good! Ok beer selection…

Despite the reviews that led us to this place, our party of four had a fairly dismal experience for our late lunch. The place was nearly empty due to the hour of the day, so we didn’t expect service to be as inattentive as it was or the food to take so long to come from the kitchen as it did. We all found our orders to be mediocre in both flavor and execution and, frankly, even our booth was uncomfortable. A dark and dingy atmosphere with grimy menus and a not so clean table were an embarrassment. I wish we had never stopped at this place.

The food here is phenomenal. French onion soup and the zesty crow wings are to die for(all their soups are really good, and made from scratch). We visit the area several times a year and always make it a point to stop in to the Scarecrow, specifically for these two items. Seriously, best wings ever. Crispy, not battered though. They’re not quite ‘buffalo’ as in: traditional soupy, goopy sauce smeared on some fried wings. These, I assume, are un-breaded wings, deep fried in some buffalo-ish zesty oil or something. They’re simply amazing. Service is always great, espeically if youre lucky enough to get Monica. Prices are reasonable. Love it here.

Ok, here I am at the Scarecrow Pub again on a Friday night. It seems to be a slow night. The food here is fantastic, but no one seems to know this. So what if sometimes the service is not the best ever. Has anyone ever eaten in an old neighborhood in Boston? I had the steak Oscar and jim had the chicken parm. Both were very good! Cooked perfect. My only complaint was I wanted a baked potato and got rice! So what, I saved a few calories! Good food, great prices! Dark bar atmosphere, but who doesn’t want a place with plenty of character? Great place for kids!!! Really, mine have been coming here for twenty years!

What looks to be a hole in the wall has pretty good food. We went with a party of 7, 4 kids including 2 sub 4. Service was slow but the waitress was very friendly and kid tolerant. Most of us went Italian and were pleases with the food. The veal and eggplant were really good as was the chicken parm.

This food was great! If you love mediocre service and an exceedingly average burger. It literally took an hour and fifteen minutes. For a burger. I felt by the time I got my food I would be wrapping Christmas presents for my family. After an hour, I just wanted to go home. I missed my family. My parents were worried about me, I honestly didn’t feel like the same person. I went through each individual stage of my high waiting for this awfully average burger. I woke up this morning and though last night was a nightmare. Unfortunately, it was reality. My friends and I were honestly worried, like did something awful happen in the kitchen? Did someone die? I honestly might give this damn restaurant another star because I’m genuinely worried about the staff.

This place is quite the anomaly. I have literally been going here with my family for the past 20 years(making the trek from CT), and they have what I used to consider one of my favorite foods in the world(more on that in a bit). We have been vacationing in the North Conway area since I was a wee lad, and apparently my parents stumbled upon a cute little«scarecrow restaurant» early on. Even after I outgrew the children’s attractions in the region, we kept going back every summer(partially for this hole-in-the-wall restaurant, as absurd as that sounds). Anyways, as one other reviewer mentioned, the«crab squares» are out of this world. They don’t really taste like crab at all. Essentially, they are English muffins with an assortment of melted cheese and some crabmeat baked on top. I do not really like cheese at all, but this unspectacular sounding appetizer is fantastic. I am making no exaggeration when I say that my family of 5 makes 6 orders each time we go for dinner(which is approximately 3 times per vacation). While the rest of my family continues to beat this dead horse, I have become slightly less enamored with the dish(I am still a huge fan of it, but I think driving 6 hours for it is a tad absurd). We asked for the recipe and also found a few imitations online. After playing around with all these recipes, we were able to come up with something serviceable, albeit still a step below. Anyways, you’ll have to try the dish for yourself to see why there is such a cult status surrounding it. All that being said, apart from that one dish, almost everything else on the menu is sub-par in my opinion. I have gone to this restaurant probably more than any other, so believe me when I say that I have tried just about everything on the menu(everything is relatively cheap so I usually get an order of the aforementioned«crab squares» and then a sandwich/bowl of soup/pasta/steak dish). I would equate the rest of the menu to your average diner– apart from the odd special, there is nothing to write home about. To be fair, the interior is pretty cute. Although, it definitely has a «pub» feel, it has scarecrow décor and kids are more than welcome. The waitstaff is pretty friendly and you can get an inexpensive dinner here(~$ 10 or so), but unless you’re going to try the crab squares, I would seriously recommend going elsewhere.

Great local pub in the middle of a tourist district, everyone knows each other and if you are a day tripper they love to introduce themselves and give suggestions for North Conway! Stop by and have a drink or app at the bar!

I love the Scarecrow! It’s a really cute restaurant I like how it’s nice and dark inside it makes for a better experience I think. It’s nothing fancy but the food is great. Last time I went I had the Italian sub and it was ridiculously good. I recommend this place when you want good quality food without getting too dressed up.

My husband ordered the Manacotti and saide it was great. I had the Chicken teryaki it was pretty good. Our son ordered fish sticks and said they were yucky. He did love the fries and the free hoodsie cup. Price was fair and our waiter was great.
