When you’re hidden in that Shadeland complex next to Bubba’s, it’s hard to get visibility in that area. It doesn’t seem like much when you walk into Z-Gyro with one young fella by the name of Sam running the place, but he has great hospitality so I hope his business is successful since I’d hate to see a decent Mediterranean fast-food place disappear on the NE side so soon. It seems like the menu is still in the testing stage to determine what people like/dislike/want — being tweaked to customers tastes. So don’t be afraid to give an honest opinion or a casual suggestion. I had the regular Z gyro combo. The gyro meat is thinly sliced and stuffed into a warm soft pita loaded with sliced tomatoes, shredded lettuce, onions, and a creamy cucumber sauce. The side of seasoned fries were super crispy, like a fry should be. Only thing that needs to be tweaked a little is the generous amount of raw onions in there. It was a little bit too much for me since I didn’t want bad breath all day long. The cucumber sauce could be more tangy-yogurt based. If you don’t mind a fairly quite place, talk shows blipping on and off the tvs from bad reception, and a lady who walks in with a bathrobe and pj pants… all in all, a very good gyro and friendly service.

I have been asked before if I’m Greek! No but I love all Greek foods! I lived in Detroit for most of my life and there is a part of the downtown called Greek town. The sad things is that the Greek town of youth is no longer, the old Greek coffee house(men only) are gone, the Greek grocery stores are gone, and the list of Greek run store have been replaced with hip Greek restaurants have taken their place. So much for the sad story and on to Z Gyro, this is not a Greek gyros shop but more Middle Eastern. This is not a bad thing the foods for this region of the world have a lot in common! The food is very good and full of great taste. The Gyros come normal and spicy, I went for the spicy and was pleased. The spinach was also very good and seemed to have a bit of lemon on it. The young couple running the shop where very nice and took great care with the food and they seemed to know quite a fur of the guest the day I was there. The best part of my gyros was the cucumber sauce, it was fresh and chunky. The price was very good for the food you get! Live well and eat well, and please no chains!

Call it 4.5 stars. EXCELLENT seasoned french fries. Very fresh greek salad. Still a most excellent gyro. Very clean up front and in the men’s room. Worth the drive from Castleton if you’re hankerin’ for a gyro.
