What a sweet little grouping of stuff! Almost wish I had a second home to decorate. This place evokes thoughts of sweet little cottages and comfortable vintage spaces that you can live in, while looking cool. So many fun little side tables, ottomans, loveseats, other little decorative touches. A definite place to stop when you are looking for a one-off that you aren’t likely to find in a chain store. Hope they are around for a long time!

This is cute, recently new shop featuring vintage household items, jewelry, and some clothing items as well. The shop owner had been wanting to open her own store for quite awhile and finally did. This is a great place to shop locally of you are on a more restricted budget. The prices are very reasonable and the staff is kind and helpful. I talked to one of the girls who worked there and she said she really enjoyed her job and was paid fairly, which, for me is something I now consider whenever I am purchasing items from a particular store. The next time you’re in Irvington, stop by and take a look at all of the cute stuff.

I stumbled across Vintage Motifs one evening this week while making a stop for dinner at the nearby Jockamo’s location in Irvington. If you drive through Irvington on a regular basis, then you already know there’s a strip of mostly retail businesses on East Washington Street that includes the likes of Jockamo’s, Black Sheep Gifts, Black Acre Brewing, and a host of other businesses. Vintage Motifs is located in the building toward the West end of this strip slightly off East Washington Street, but it still has an East Washington Street address. The building also includes Irvington Wellness and a couple of other shops. Vintage Motifs is relatively new in this spot, though I’m hard-pressed to tell you what was in there before it(Maybe that was part of the problem, eh?). As you might guess, Vintage Motifs is a sort of vintage artsy/home décor type shop with products ranging from furniture to candles to lighting to artwork. They stay consistent with their theme and if you’re not a fan of vintage décor, then there’s little chance you’ll find much to appreciate here. However, if you’re looking for a gift or simply looking for some fun décor for your own home then this should be added to your list of potential stops. It’s a great place to check out after lunch or dinner at Jockamo’s. I encountered two different employees as I was arriving toward the tail end of one shift and not too awful long from closing. Both employees were friendly and accessible, but not intrusive or hard-sell. As a customer with a disability, I can often find Irvington a bit frustrating. Fortunately, Vintage Motifs is quite accessible with a level to the ground entrance and, in fact, an accessible spot or two practically right outside its door. The glass door is relatively light, though it’s also within visibility of the employee area and I’m pretty sure they’d be quick to help someone who needed it. The interior of the store is pretty open concept, always a nice perk for a person in a wheelchair, though some of the shelving is a touch high and there were a couple spots where I was watching my wheels to make sure I didn’t accidentally tap anything and accidentally break it. I will say that there’s not much at Vintage Motifs on the low-end of pricing, though they do have a few smaller items and candles that are pretty reasonably priced. «Vintage» tends to be pretty expensive as a rule, though I didn’t really see anything here that struck me as exorbitant in price. If you shop for vintage, then you already have a good idea of what to expect. This particular location is kind of challenging as it’s not very visible from the street. You really have to either know it’s there or be entering from the back parking lot. While it may take a little extra effort, it’s another small gem in Irvington and worth your time.
