This mysterious underground night club is great for older sets. If you want to really lounge without too much of a crowd this spot is for you. I usually go Friday for Latin night when it’s packed, hot, and noisy enough for me to have a ball! I love how you can get your own little space along the walls of the dance floor. Or, literally bump into someone giving their all to the music, and fall right in step. At the end of the night you’ll be happy you came. If you’re a bar hopper like myself, this is your second stop on a chill night. Subterra is not a wild one of the south meridian club houses. Depending on your mood, the relaxed feel is a welcome to the weekend. Go on a pay day because the drinks are way overpriced, and bathrooms are super cramped. The Olympic sized stairwell(entrance) can be a drag if you aren’t careful. Definitely, stay above ground if you know you are level 9 on a 10 pt scale of sit it down somewhere. Raging dance moves and endless shots are better someplace else! However, If you are in vamped up party mode– go here to feel the grown and sexy heat!

It’s just not my scene. Maybe it would have been right when I turned 21, but as much as I try to pretend to enjoy shady, underground spaces, grinding and overpriced drinks — I just can’t do it anymore. I gave it one last go on NYE and was sorely disappointed. It was supposed to be a «Frank Sinatra» themed event, so I expected the venue to truly fit the scene. I didn’t feel it. I did, though, see several other people having the time of their life — so I know they are getting the business they want and the people they want, which is great. I think this type of place fits a certain demographic, and I just don’t find myself fitting in that niche anymore. Sorry. For those that love it, great for you!

Jan. 18, 2014 — I had a great night we had a wonderful nonprofit gala after party there. A project I have worked on since Feb. 2013. We had a private room and a bottle. The wait staff kept going back to our VIP area and messing with the bottle. NOT Holly our bottle Service Attendant. It was like they were going to drink it if we left any there or re-sell it to the next guest. When we saw this and our party left we invited the people we met on the dance floor to drink the rest of the bottle. Six new friends helped us finish it that was friend of friends of our 40 ppl party. Our host tipped out Holly either $ 22 or $ 28 dollars So loud and I couldn’t understand. The Lounge took my husband’s phone to charge it so our battery wasn’t dead anymore and kept our phone. What they should have been if trained to our laws here in Blue Law Nation. They should have: Last call at 230am at 245am they should have turn the music down… To allow guest safe passage through the city guests need to be able to call cabs. If cell phones are dead the guest shouldn’t have to beg for water, beg for a working phone, beg for the music to be turned down so the guest could make a call on said phone. I didn’t receive my tip out of the evening yet I have to wait two weeks to get paid for my services… I had six cash dollars. I didn’t want the cab service to have my credit card number. I needed to get back to the Westin. At one time I was going to have The Lounge swipe my card x2 and give me cash so I could tip out coat check and have enough money to pay the cab driver cash money not credit card money. I had to beg for my coat. In which I never received. My friend from my original party seen my struggles and handed me enough tipping money to allow me to be able to tip coat check and the cabbie. I had had issues with cabbies and lock out services where the company has stolen money off my credit card and I have had to file reports with my card company. I(as an American) will never give the cabbies nor lock out services my info ever again. That is another story… So after begging«please call a cab for me and tell them we are staying at the Westin by Circle Center mall the Lounge told me no walk my happy ass up the stairs and hail my own car. I don’t like doing business like that. I get cabs all day long for my guest I have at my job. I treat people the way I like to be treated. My mom told me it was good manners and that is the way we are raised here in my great city of Indianapolis. Our count of our party was about 40 people at one point tonight. Not all of us made it into VIP probably only 12 of us did. So after having to show my dead phone off… If they were good people they would have seen my husband’s phone and said«Miss here is your husband’s phone and your coat have a nice safe night». I had to ‘soldier carry’ my husband out of the Lounge. Up their unsafe icy snowy steps. Place my husband at the old school style parking meter to allow him to steady himself. I had to then walk out into the street and hail my own cab. I met a nice bouncer that knew I was in a bad place. He told me he understood and was going on and he was there to help me. I was to remove myself from the street and to take care of my husband. It was a cold and snowy night thank God a stranger help me out. Dear sir if you read this thank you for doing the decent right thing. You know who you are. The Lounge bouncer was a lazy meanie butt and probably kept the phone as a prize since we drank the bottle they where licking their chops over. So we were taken to the hotel. After we made it up to our room we audited our losses. When I realized I got fleeced on our phone I couldn’t get back to the Lounge fast enough to was closing time 0258. I ran down to front desk and tried to call the Lounge I thought please Lounge answer your Lounge phone and please Dear Lord allow them to do the right thing. The number that front desk could find on the web wasn’t being answered when Front Desk heard what had happened they said at this point you have file a police report for your insurance claim on your lost device. I agreed. That I was praying for people to do the right thing that didn’t do the right thing all night WHY did I think my prayers would change their behavior now when they are part of the reason I was fleeced and Front Desk and I both knew it. Later I found out from the Westin Security the Westin would have come and gotten us out of there. If only that Lounge would done the right thing and known to contact our Westin shuttle. Because I made it very clear where I needed to go when at 0218 I was planning my escape I tipped Holly $ 20 and she said«Is there anything thing else I may help you with.» I said can you get me a cab, my coat, and a glass of water for my husband. The coat check ticket was later found in my husband’s wallet. I didn’t know that part of the story until he woke

I’ve been in this place a couple of times mostly because on most Friday nights they won’t have a cover. I use it a pit stop between other bars and I think that most other people do the same. The bar is kind of small and is always nearly empty. I don’t think I’ve ever seen more than 10 people in there and that include the staff. For a having an empty bar you would think the bartenders would be attentive but the emptier the bar the more difficult it is to get a drink. Another downside is the bar doesn’t have dress code so you’ll see people in sweatpants, wife beaters, and athletic wear. The music is ok and the bathroom is ok.

The drinks are watered down and the bartenders aren’t friendly.

My first thought upon arriving at Subterra as we showed our IDs at the top of the staircase(which was at street level), «Hey, it’s like Cheers!» But once we got all the way down the stairs and actually entered the basement bar, I realized it was like Cheers if Sam Malone was on steriods and wore glitter. Needless to say, I’m a fan of this bar, or should I call it a club… It was swanky and alluring without being stuffy or overbearing. People were dancing, strangers were conversing, the bartenders were energetic and happy to be there. The overall vibe was inviting. I honestly do not remember the drink prices here, sorry. But I can assure you it’s worth stopping in just to take a look around. Cheers!

It has been a while since I’ve been here… for a reason. We visited Subterra to visit an employee that was friends with someone in our group. It was early in the evening, and the place was completely empty. We each bought a severely-overpriced beer. The employee told us to sit in the VIP section while he and our friend chatted. When the waitress came by, she was extremely rude and TOLD us «if you are going to sit here, you have to buy a bottle, and the cheapest one is $ 200», instead of asking what we would like to drink. We weren’t wearing suits, however we were all nicely dressed. I cannot believe how rude this particular waitress acted. Even if I were planning on buying a bottle, I would never buy one from her. If the place was packed, I would understand her not wanting to give up the space, however there was absolutely no one in the bar when we arrived, and there were only five people when we left.

I don’t know why I even considered going to this place. It gave me douche chills from the moment I walked in the door. Terrible dance music? check! Awkward bathroom attendant? check! Drunk bros and skanks everywhere? check! Admittedly, I love to dance and don’t mind hitting up a club every now and then, but I’ve always avoided the Wholesale District. I knew what I was getting myself into but I was blinded by booze and the enthusiasm of some acquaintances. Sure I busted a move, but girl, please get your butt out of my crotch. I only like my hot dogs from King David’s.

Okay, I LOVE this spot. I am 30 something and I don’t feel too old or too young. The bartenders have a great memory. I have watched them serve several different people and remember their drink orders. The DJ manages to play a good mix of current jams and my old Skool. I always start the night and usually end the night here. Subterra…you are da bomb!

When the likes of downtown Indy offer Have a Nice Day Café and Tiki Bar for the 21 – 24 age group and Ike and Jonesy’s pulls in the over 40 divorcee crowd, Subterra is a breath of fresh air for the successful, young, late 20s, early 30s crowd. I discovered the bar with my girlfriends on a random Friday night two winters ago. We bypassed the $ 5 cover with a little sweet talk and scored a table in the VIP section after introducing ourselves to the owner. It was our first but not our last trip. 2 bottles of liquor later, some fantastic MCing(who takes requests — I find this to be the most important thing) and an awesome reggae drum beater accessorizing the tunes, we were in clubbin’ heaven. Since then, I have spent many a Saturday night or bachelorette party(even my own) dancin’ to the beats in Subterra. I drug my hubby out after our reception in our wedding garb to have a few drinks here and not only did we get in free, but the bartenders and the clientel alike got us drinks and kept our late night wedding party going for a few more hours. It was amazing! I avoid the likes of Have a Nice Day at all costs now and only hit up Ike’s when I’m in the mood to be slobbered on by a 50 year old who thinks«Beat It» is still an «in» tune, which I have to say… is not very appealing.

Very nice, upscale club in downtown Indy. Except I think the DJ may be on crack since he is so ADD and will not play a full song without remixing it in a really confusing way. Sorry, I do not want to hear Britney and Gnarls Barkley mashed up. But the drinks were good, the waitress bar service was nice, and it is really nicely decorated. Also, has bottle service if you want to blow a ton of money. It’s tiny though so if it’s busy, watch out!

I’m not a lounge lizard, I don’t care for them much, but during the week when no one is out, this place can be a blast. The drinks aren’t all that cheap, but the atmosphere is actually fun instead of being too stuck up and classy. The thing that makes it fun during the week? Well they are usually empty so there are all these private rooms with no one in them. So if you are so inclined you can just grab a room and flip on the TV’s, maybe dance on the tables a little, it can be a good time if you know when to go. As for it’s weekend persona, I like this place as the best ultra lounge down town.

One of the sexier lounges in the city, Subterra is perfect for a nightlife crowd that is open to slightly different music and a smaller, more intimate club environment. Subterra has DJs every weekend(I have DJd there several times as well as hosted parties) and generally has hip hop and top 40, but also regularly plays dance music, particularly on Saturday nights. The cover is usually $ 5 for ladies and $ 10 for guys, but sometimes this varies on special event weekends or earlier in the week(when it’s sometimes less or no cover). Great bartenders(say hey to Joe for me!) and the owners are super cool. VIP rooms available with a minimum(2) bottle purchase(usually). Intimate dance floor that can be fun with 5 people or 35 people. Located downstairs below the Red Eye Café.

There wasn’t much that was«great» about Subterra. It is mostly a club for those who couldn’t get into some of the other clubs. Lots of drunk girls rubbing booties on everyone, but it wasn’t really all that happening. Drinks are expensive and in typical club fashion, not overly strong. Lots of other places to go with much more happening in this scene. Maybe it will be different in the spring, but as far as now… there isn’t much reason to go to Subterra.

Subterra is great for the 25 and older crowd. It’s very classy. They have a large selection of Martinis. The bartenders are real nice. It’s a nice place to relax and have a great time.
