Steak ‘n Shake

Best service I have ever had at a Stake n’ Shake. Our server was very polite and the manager brought our food out quickly. Everyone had a smile on their face and made sure we had everything we needed. And to top it off as we were leaving a young lady was walking into start her shift, she held the door for us and told us to have a nice day. They must have great training at this location… we drove past 2 stake n’shakes to come to this one because we always have bad service at the ones in our neighborhood but this location is worth the drive!

So far they have not once gotten my order right, the fries are always old and soggy and the burgers are greasy, I don’t know why it’s so hard to cook a burger or make some fries but the skill is beyond 99% of restraints both fast and «classy»

Watched the person making our shakes put cherries on with bare hands… no gloves or utensils. I was able to see from the drive thru window. Also no hair nets or hats being worn. I’m sure this doesn’t happen when board of health is present.

After a long day of riding busses on our way to Indiana, we decided to get a very nutritious meal at the local Steak N’ Shake.
We entered the restaurant and began to order. After approximately 2 hours of waiting, we finally ordered. One hour later, our shakes were delivered but did not make it from the kitchen to the table. The waitress dropped all 10 shakes on the twenty foot walk from kitchen to table. The team still did not show their anger.
After another 1.5 hours, the food began to be delivered. The problem was, none of them were labeled. It took twenty minutes to sort out the waitresses laziness. Once they were finally done delivering the food, the new shakes still hadn’t been started. The team still didn’t show emotion. Finally they began to allow the tired players to pay for their food. The bill was all jumbled ant it took 54 minutes (yes I timed it) to sort out the orders.
Never go here.

Ordered two Milk & Cookies Shakes and a order of Chicken Fingers with Fries Food took less than 5 minutes but it took them 15 minutes to get the shakes out.
There was only 4 people dinning in and two people waiting on orders at the counter. And there were 3 – 4 employees standing around in the back and one was playing on the cell.
The only reason we got our shakes is when I yelled at the manager for shakes taking 15 minutes and when the grill cook didn’t wash his hands after taking out the trash.
Employees obviously are not trained on food handling.
It is safe to say I will not be returning.

The service here is friendly, but it is not the cleanest. Our server brought a pitcher of water from another table after that group had left. The water may be clean, but there are some good practices that should be followed. Other than that, it’s still your typical chain Steak ‘n Shake.

Double steak burger with cheese, fries, chili 3-​ways, and a chocolate milkshake… that has a cherry on top that my mom has always been able to distract me just long enough to steal.

I don’t consider this a ‘drive through’ place. I’ve always eaten inside and have always been satisfied.

Horrible experience, they were out of cheese fry’s and the milkshake machine was broken. The gave me the wrong sandwich and the fry’s were not regular Stake and Shake fry’s.

The drive through was lined up around the building and people were waiting about twenty minutes. Turns out he drove through was closed with no notice outside. I finally went inside and informed cashier of the situation where I was answered with a short, sarcastic, «I’m sorry.?» First and last time to this restaurant.

I’ve had it with Steak and Shake. Tried to go there last week, 5 minutes to be seated, 15 minutes without even a drink or menu, gave up and left. Tried again today, 1 server for the entire restaurant at the beginning of lunch rush. Bless her she tried, but no way she could handle all the customers solo. Took 20 minutes standing in line at the register before I could pay and leave the restaurant, likely for the last time.

Possibly there was a big rush at 2 pm today. Either that or Godzilla just passed through. I love steak & shake and was stunned how dirty, messy and yucky this location was. Plus, they were out of food (cheese, pickles, and stuff likw that). Yikes!

Seriously screw this location, I waited in the drive thru for almost 30 minutes just for a burger and fries tonight… When I got to the window I didn’t even get an apology for the wait and my food was cold! Not to mention I nearly drove off before I realized they forgot to put my fries in the freakin bag. I’m not exaggerating one bit this place sucks! Steak ‘n Shake it’s self isn’t bad but definitely find another location cause this one stinks!

I placed an online order. When I got there, they had not received it. It ttook 25 minutes to cook a hot dog. Apparently they have all the customers they want. I’m sure not going back.

Awful awful service. Me and my friend went in around 11 pm the other night for a late dinner. We stood their waiting to be seated for about 10 min! The lady didn’t even say, «I’ll be right with you», instead took her time doing whatever it was she was doing. We left angry.

This is a great lunch spot for me. I have never really had any service issues. Everything is consistent and traditional as it was years ago for such an old establishment. The portions do seem a little smaller than they could be but that’s not always a bad thing. Steak N Shake it would seem was always a small cut above fast food where service and price is. Now it seems Steak N Shake has had to change a bit in their processes to make everything cost effective to compete. Either way the service is still great here and the food is consistently good.

The food is of average SNS quality and the service was good. I had to knock it down because of the restrooms. I know restaurant bathrooms are rarely great, and some are downright gross. But this place was beyond what I have ever seen. We are talking worse than gas station bathrooms. If you are reading this, you are probably looking for a place to eat and hungry, so I will not detail the horrible things in the ladies room that I cannot unsee, but I will never ever EVER go back. If the urge to go hit when I was there again, I would rather go behind a dumpster.

Came in for a very late dinner with my husband and 9 month old.
I was unsure of what our experience might be like, after reading some other reviews.
Fortunately, we had an incredibly friendly server, Ryan. He was just a joy. He went way over and beyond what was required of him, and seemed cheerful, even while working a graveyard shift!
Thanks, Ryan, for making an otherwise mundane fast food trip something worth Unilocaling about!

We got here with a group of 16 at 930 at night. Food was decent. Normal steak n shake fare. Waitress, I don’t think had ever served more than 2 people on a shift. Was incredibly slow. Place was clean. Decent place

THIS LOCATION ABSOLUTLY SUCKS. I’m not a Steak ‘n Shake goer, so forgive me if you are. I was asked by a friend to go here one monring. I swear, there was 1 couple in there, besides us, on a Sunday morning, 8:30 ish. Waited for 5 minutes for a cup of coffee, barely warm, my friend ordered a pancake with his meal, they forgot it. I got so frustrated that I got up to get my own coffee and the waitress met me at the coffee pot and said she could do it for me, I had to ask her if she was sure? lol. The floors felt greasy and the seats and tables were dirty too. I gave them 1 star because I stopped in one late night and got a cheeseburger and it was good. But like someone else said, their fries are goofy, and I would have to agree.

Yes, it’s a chain, but it’s a really, really good chain. As another reviewer has stated, some locations are better than others. I’ve always had good service at this one. I can also recommend the one on SR 135 in Greenwood and the one on Southport Road near IN-​37. The burgers are tasty, fresh and handmade. I guess it’s technically fast food. although they try to get away from the fast food «feel». If you dine in, they use real plates and silverware and provide table service. I’m not a fan of shoestring fries, but I don’t mind them when I come to Steak N Shake. The shakes are handmade and very good.
Steak N Shake is not my first choice for a burger if I’m going to sit down and be waited on but if I need to grab a quick burger, they are at the top of the list.
