Before I begin I must say that I am not a lover of sweets. Every once in a while I crave something sweet and I decided to check out these vegan donuts. I went with a maple donut and it was delicious! They vary in days and also it’s better to show up in the morning when they have the most selection. Definitely recommend them so check it out!

Rocket 88, why must you make me love you? I’m not even a huge donut fan, and the first time I tried you on National Donut day, you were out of almost everything, which made me want to hate you. But lo and behold, I tried the blueberry mini and the toasted coconut and they were the best flipping donuts I’ve had! What evil magic do you work to produce these delights? I went back on Saturday 6⁄11 and shared the coconut, chocolate frosted, dark chocolate bacon, cinnamon sugar, and espresso crème filled with my wife and son. I. Was. Totally. Buggin. That espresso was the best donut I’ve ever had! Even at $ 2.50 a pop! The crème was light and airy, not too sweet and bursting with espresso yummy. So, gentle reader, you think $ 12.50 is a lot for just 5 donuts? I do too, but these were not JUST5 donuts. Every one was delicious. Don’t fool yourself about Longs or Square or Dunkin. They make donuts, but Rocket 88 makes a cut above. Go now, intrepid foodie.

Full disclosure: I gave four stars instead of five because I have not actually visited the location, so I can’t say much about service, coffee, etc. If I’m ever in the area, I plan to stop in and possibly update the review! A co-worker brought in a couple of boxes of vegan donuts, and they were absolutely delicious! The texture was good(which is often a problem with vegan baked goods) and they tasted great. I had a couple of the mini-donuts — one blueberry and one chocolate with chocolate frosting. The chocolate was especially good because most vegan chocolate just tastes too bitter to me. And, being the indecisive person I am when it comes to food, I LOVE the mini-sized donuts and the ability to create a «sampler platter» of flavors. Definitely recommend trying them!

Best donuts I have ever had, period. The Leslie Knopes are a one of a kind treat, the filling in the donuts is airy and light, making them great on flavor but not too heavy. Everything they make is great. Don’t leave Indy without trying this place!

I wanted to love this place, especially after all of the positive reviews. I feel like the only way someone would love this place is if they had never had a donut before. I like that rocket 88 is something unique to Indy, as chain eateries run wild here. The donut selection is extremely limited. If you are vegan you would enjoy their selection as they had at least 5 different options today. Unfortunately the donuts were bland and mushy. I had the dark chocolate bacon, which had great chocolate flavor but overall was disappointing. My boyfriend had a vegan glazed and a cinnamon sugar. We both feel grocery store donuts have more flavor and texture than the donuts we tried here. The coffee was ok, my chai latte was far from hot. All in all we will not be back. Maybe our standards are too high after living in Dallas where they have hypnotic donuts.

Full disclosure, I’m not a HUGE donut lover — but I do love a sweet treat, especially of the baked good variety. I visited Rocket 88 Doughnuts for the first time this weekend during the Fountain Square Folk Fest. As it was FREEZINGCOLD for May, we stopped in mainly to grab a warm drink. The server was very friendly and thanked us profusely for waiting so patiently(around 30 minutes). But we expected this wait as Fountain Square was packed with folk fanatics. Luckily, there was a performer in the shop, which made the time spent waiting seem like nothing at all. I ordered a chi latte and one of their mini vanilla donuts. The chi latte tasted a little soapy, so it wasn’t one of my favorites — but it was warm, which was the main goal. The mini vanilla donut was delicious! It was a dense cake donut, drizzled icing. It was sweet, but not overwhelming and the size was perfect for what I wanted. I was also really impressed that almost all of their donuts were vegan and ingredients sourced from local farms. The shop is relatively small, but very cozy. I could definitely see it as a place to hang out and get some work done if I needed to!(on a day when there wasn’t a folk music festival going on, of course)

Rocket 88 always has a wide variety of options for my gluten-free/dairy-free sister! They taste unlike any other donut you have ever tried. I am hoping to try the Leslie Knope Waffle donut someday! Not to mention the inside of the shop is so cute and chic! I wanna stay there and do homework all day. Keep up the good work Rocket 88, I haven’t been disappointed yet!

As many of you might already know, I am a HUGE donut fan! So, of course, I have been trying to go to different donut shops around the Indianapolis area. Everyone has been raving about Rocket 88 Doughnuts, so I has to try it out for myself. And I’m sure glad I did! Rocket 88 is fantastic & I broke it down into 4 reasons why it’s so good: 1) It isn’t too pricey. The donuts range from $ 1.75 to $ 2.50(not as cheap as The Donut Shop but not as pricey as The Dancing Donut). 2) Their donut menu is mostly vegan in order to accommodate their vegan customers. 3) They get their supplies and ingredients from the local community and farms. 4) The donuts are all organic and natural in order to continue their mission of being environmentally-friendly. I would give them 5 stars, but there was one problem. When I went this morning, there wasn’t a wide variety of donut flavors to choose from. Although there weren’t a lot, I ended up very satisfied with the one I bought, which was the Peanut Butter Pretzel donut. And let me tell you– it was DELICIOUS! Who would of thought that pretzels would taste so good on a donut?! Fun fact for all of you Parks and Recreation fans: Rocket 88 sells a «Leslie Knope Waffle Donut» every Wednesday. I will definitely be going back soon to try it!

No, it’s not Longs in Speedway, but their donuts are epic and the coffee is an excellent compliment. The atmosphere is right on — quiet, modern, and clean. I went at 10am, so they were sold out of a few donut flavors. I purchased the Vegan cinnamon sugar and the classic donut. They were both excellent and I am pumped to bring more friends here to hang with.

I will be honest, I got a little scared by most of the options being vegan. That’s just not me and I was hesitant because there were more vegan options than regular doughnuts. However, I will never be scared of a vegan doughnut again. It tastes like any other doughnut so give it a shot. I came here not for the doughnut, but to try the Rocket 88 blend coffee. It had a good bitterness to it while also being smooth enough to drink black. The doughnut was good too of course. Maple and pretzel with a nice and moist consistency. Staff was hip and friendly enough(I don’t understand some of the negative staff reviews)

I needed to place a big donut order for work, and wanted to buy local. This happened to be in the middle of the RFRA debacle, and they were one of the only to share that they were«Open for Service», so they quickly rose to the top of my list! What has kept me coming back a few times has been these things: –The green tea donuts. Oh my stars they are tasty. –The hand-stamped boxes. –The simple yet cool décor. –The yummy made-to-order coffee drinks. –The local and natural ingredients. Yes, I know, I’m eating a donut, but it makes me feel better when I know where stuff is coming from and know exactly whats in there and whats not. I can’t wait to stop by the new location in SoBro!

Breaking from my norm and leaving a short review, because I think that’s all that is necessary for Rocket 88. The Brown Butter Pretzel and the Leslie Knope waffle doughnuts(only available Wednesday and Sunday are LIFE! The coffee is good — great chai latte/Dirty Chai. I’ve had them both several times. My one suggestion: get here early! They will sell out of your favorite doughnut if not. And that would just be sad.

If you’re vegan and still love doughnuts this is the place you should go. They have several delicious vegan options. I had the glazed vegan and the chai vegan. I love the chai vegan! Yum! The vibe is trendy and retro, pretty low key on décor and seating. It is a little dark for my taste in style, but it goes well with the Fountain Square neighborhood. I went in around 10 a.m. and there was still a pretty decent selection. I would have like to see a little bit more of a friendly or welcoming attitude from the cashier. They weren’t busy and she didn’t acknowledge me being there until I said I’d like to order something.

I’ve given this place several chances in case I’ve visited on an off day or something. However it’s always pretty much the same a very limited selection of donuts and always a crappy attitude from the staff. It’s seems like they think your lucky to spend your money there instead of the other way around. Anyway they are absolutely unfriendly or helpful and could careless about your presence in the store. The donuts are pretty hit and miss many are usually bitter or bland. But I have had a few that were awesome but there is just zero consistency. The ability to count on what to expect is a huge let down, also parking is ridiculous unless your really lucky. Also plan on spending some time because the staff are in NO hurry to serve you ever,

Pardon me in advance, but eff whatcha heard about the other ‘gourmet’ doughnut places in town. Rocket 88 is the real deal. Located on the way in to Fountain Square from Downtown Indy, be careful not to blink or you may miss it. It is just next to the vet clinic with the huge dog mural painted on the side of the building if that helps. I have passed it so many times thinking«someday I will go in there…» Well, my friends — today was the day. I went in with the intention of picking out one for me, one for the hubs, and one for a friend I was about to visit. However, I got lost in the selection and when the fantastic gentleman behind the counter asked how many donuts I would be purchasing, I could only squeak out«less than 6…» Long story short, I ended up with the Brown Butter Pretzel, Cranberry Orange(Vegan), Dark Chocolate Bacon, Pumpkin Spice Latte(Vegan), and the Mint Chocolate Just Pop In. They ranged in price from $ 2-$ 2.50…and were ALL totally worth it. Skip ahead to the part where my friend was in a meeting so I didn’t get to unload one there(darn), and I ended up with all *5* to myself. Score. Today’s stand out was the Brown Butter Pretzel, followed very closely by the Mint Chocolate with Just Pop In popcorn on top. The others were all really good, but can we just talk about my favorites 2 for a second? That Brown Butter Pretzel had me figuring out how many additional hours I would need to spend at the gym so I could work that thing in to my life on the regular. The base donut was PERFECT — thick but not dry, not greasy, not cloyingly sweet — add the perfect frosting and the touch of salty pretzels and you have doughnut perfection. On to the Mint Chocolate Just Pop in – The popcorn added just the touch I needed… and I may or may not have licked all of that mint chocolate drizzle off the paper it sat on in the privacy of my own home. Of note, the other doughnuts were all really good too — the hubs LOVED the dark chocolate bacon and the bite he spared for me was pretty darn tasty(and I don’t like bacon). The orange cranberry was perfectly light and sweet with a great hint of citrus that was not overpowering. The pumpkin spice latte was also surprisingly light, and like the others, not greasy at all. Paying upwards of $ 4 for a dry, meh doughnut is SO passé… dump ‘em and head to Rocket 88.

Love this place and the doughnuts it offers! My hubs is a vegetarian and doesn’t eat eggs. Sometimes this makes finding tasty doughnuts a challenge. Not at Rocket 88! Today, when we walked in, there were easily 5 – 6(or more) different VEGAN doughnut options! Talk about variety! We’re lucky if a place has 1, let alone 5−6+. Now, this was not our first visit, and we’ve sampled several flavors in the past. All have been delicious, but I’ve loved their blueberry(seasonal — can’t remember if it was vegan, I’m not vegetarian) and apple fritter(vegan). Plus the fritter is huge! My eyes always say to get a fritter plus another different doughnut. Tummy always demands I take some of the fritter home. That’s how big they are! Overall, if you are vegetarian or, heck, even if you’re not, check them out! Tasty, natural/organic, doughnuts with a lovely variety!

Sorry other doughnut shop that might be located in Broad Ripple, I have found a new love and it is Rocket 88 Doughnuts. First off, right when we walked in the staff was very friendly(and encourage you to eat all the doughnuts). Since it was close to closing they had already cleaned up their cappuccino machine but did not complain or seem annoyed that I asked for one and delivered it with a smile. We came in around 1:30 on a Saturday afternoon and walked up to a display full of doughnuts. Not sure if this was odd because other reviews said they ran out early but there was PLENTY to chose from. We might have gone a little overboard but we took some to friends too. –old fashioned –double chocolate old fashioned –boston cream filled –Almond glazed yeast –apple fritter –pumpkin glaze –maple pecan –something with green seeds on top of it About half of these were vegan and I’m not complaining, the doughnuts weren’t as filling so it left room to try more doughnuts. I love that they are regular sized doughnuts too for this reason, I can try more. I love that they don’t put a ton of toppings on them(cereal((that’s weird)), tons of frosting or glaze). They let the flavor and doughnut speak for itself. The pumpkin and apple fritter were by far my favorite. It was a beautiful fall day with some beautiful fall doughnuts. Will definitely be back again, this weekend.

Ginger-Lemon I had the opportunity to get a donut from the cart at my office. I was hesitant, but I’m so glad I did. The donut is more chewy than pillowy and the glaze is spot on. I am a fan.

Well this is my first time posting in a while and let me just say, it’s great to be back! So after passing rocket 88 doughnuts several times in the afternoon, they are probably tired of cleaning my face against the glass, and slobbering on their window when they’re not open. Not today! As usual, I got up way too early on a Saturday, and burned my bike down to fountain square. When I got there, there was an old man and his wife waiting in the car, but they weren’t fast enough! And senior citizens are supposed to be good at getting there before everyone, haha. Walking in directly behind me were about 10 people at 8 on a Saturday! I browsed the case and got to work. A pecan maple, and a blueberry for me. If you’ve never eaten vegan doughnuts before they are quite different then the real ones. They usually lack that crunch around the outside, and are less sweet. They also don’t ruin your whole day sleeping off the sugar and fat. Blueberry doughnut, it was surprisingly crispy, but the blueberry was a bit faint. Just the right sweetness but wanted that blueberry burst 4⁄5. Pecan maple doughnut, very chewy in a good way, and the maple and pecan were spot on. Again not too sweet, but great flavor 5⁄5. I couldn’t believe how dense the doughnuts were! Two of them were a meal, and I know I’m delusional, but I almost felt as I ate something healthy. The interior of the space is very cool/eclectic 4⁄5. So I walked out into the sun, I contemplated my next stop to eat something that I KNEW was going to be bad for me! Great to be back!!!

The good and the bad of Rocket 88 — it’s like playing poker. Some time you get a good hand … and sometimes you don’t. Sometimes you get a good doughnut selection and sometimes you don’t. Sadly, I arrived with the latter selection. We ordered the blueberry doughnut(old fashioned) and he ordered the waffle doughnut. I heard from Michael that his lacked flavor. I can only speak directly about the blueberry. Real talk — it’s not the best blueberry doughnut I’ve had in Indianapolis as I will lean to Jack’s. Jacks is rich, buttery and has a delectably sweet texture with a strong blueberry flavor. Rocket was decent but lacked the blueberry punch. Now call me when the cookie dough doughnut is in stock and I might have a different feeling. It’s definitely a cool space in Fountain Square. It would be neat if they posted their flavors on their website or Twitter so that I can make an informed decision. PS. Every employee is somewhat angry and annoyed with life but that’s because they are hipster so that’s what society tells them they should be. Need coffee? We’re out. Can I see the small and large cup size? It’s 12 and 16 oz. Oh. Anything besides whole milk? No.

Full disclosure– we came specifically for two donuts that they were already out of at 9 o’clock. The guy behind the counter said that they run out really fast of the good ones so you get whats left if you arent early. I feel like if you are down to 5 – 6 flavors two hours in you should make more donuts. I dont know. We tried one of each flavor left and split it between me, my boyfriend, and my friend who was staying with us. We tried: chocolate glazed cake(dry and flavourless. second worst of all of them) dark chocolate bacon(i thought it was gross, bf thought it was ok) double toasted coconut(the only one I liked… but the people I was with both didnt) lime filled(this was the worst. the filling was awful, it tasted like curdled milk and bottled lime juice) strawberry(again, not great tbh but passable) and another glazed one i forget the name of, vanilla glazed i think. it was ok. I was really disappointed… The coffee was pretty good I guess? I dont know if we came on an off day, but the guy at the counter was super pretentious talking about the donuts, and sort of looked down his nose at us being there at 9 am instead of 7 am? Like we deserved to be disappointed for not waking up at the crack of dawn? I would go once more to try the«good ones» and see if they are phenomenal enough that I understand the great ratings, but this experience was really lackluster and disappointing.

Doughnuts or donuts? «Dough“s it really matter? HA puns. While I can’t speak for the in-shop experience, I can vouch for its tastiness because a sweet friend offered me an extra :) I’m pretty sure mine was the Early Grey Vanilla which retails for only $ 1! It was a perfect size: larger than a «snack size» doughnut but a tad smaller than a Krispy Kreme. Perfectly glazed, not too much or too sticky. The dough was dense and moist(sorry if you hate that word) but not like«oh man, it’s too rich» after one bite. Bonus: you can preorder large orders and pick them up on the day of your event! «Dougnut» miss out on the opportunity to Rocket 88! ;)
