My husband, son and I visited Pipers on 5÷25÷16. The waitress came to our table and my son noticed that she was chewing food on her way to our table – not good. My son’s entrée salad was extremely disappointing. For $ 11 they should be serving better than bagged salad, raw broccoli, and chow me in noodles — very few other veggies! I informed waitress it was my husband’s birthday and she said Pipers does nothing for birthdays. I ordered their«Swiss steak» while it was good – it was pot roast with gravy and NOT Swiss steak. Swiss steak is a thick slice of steak dragged in flour and pounded browned and braised with tomatoes and onions – misleading menu. Overall, low rating for quality of food, lack of attention(waitress didn’t ask us once to refill our waters and the restaurant was practically empty), and also for lack of making you feel welcomed and not having something special for ones birthday as most eating establishments do. I felt bad that I had chosen this place to celebrate his special day.

This is a hidden treasure. If you have not tried Pipers. I’m all in with you giving it a try. To me, the restaurant is right in the middle of causal and fancy. I’m not really sure what to say at he atmosphere really. Now the food! I can talk about that. It’s delicious. I got the Chicken James and I wasn’t its biggest fan. But I know cream cheese lovers will love it. It just had quit too much for me. But still good. My husband got the cashew tilapia. And that was amazing! The house ranch is great and the tea bread is great. You just have to try it. I’m writing this before I get to dessert, but the dessert menu seems grand and I can’t wait to dig in. 4 stars Piper!

Good food, made from scratch. Great service. Reasonable prices. Nice clean warm atmosphere. My wife asked for a grilled chicken sandwich and they made it for her even though we didn’t see it on the menu. The fries were bland. Overall, a very good experience.

My husband and I love this place. All of their entrees are so good! And the atmosphere is very nice, quiet, and romantic. You can actually enjoy your dinner and have a conversation with your family. The food is very tasty. I love the stuffed pork chops and the grab cakes! However, I wish they gave you a larger serving of the vegetables during Devour Indiana Special. All of the other times we ate there the servings were perfect! Overall, VERYGOOD and everyone really needs to try this place, you will not be disappointed.

Every time my husband and I got to Pipers it’s a wonderful experience! I’ve lived close to Pipers forever and never went in… I don’t think I knew it was a restaurant. My husband wanted to try it one evening and I’m so glad we did. We have been back many times since. The staff is super friendly! They always greet you with a smile and are happy you’re there. The food is delicious. I’ve ordered many things off their menu and every single thing I’ve ordered has been good. I especially like the calamari with the bacon dip, the Caesar salad, and the tilapia. They also do special menus like an Oktoberfest menu, Under the Sea menu, etc and these menus accompany the one used regularly so you can still get an old favorite. The drinks are fairly priced and also made very well. The atmosphere of Pipers is very relaxing. It’s quiet, dimly lit, and is prefect for date night or just a quiet night with friends. You are always seated very quickly. Pipers also has really good catering. :) Tasty sandwiches and fresh fruit was really good. Check it out… Try something new. It’s worth it here :)

Pipers has been on my radar for about three years, so I was so excited to finally be able to experience it last night. I have to admit, I was a little concerned when I noticed several lights out on the outdoor signs, but the inside was very clean and pretty. Service was great, as well. We got the Pu Pu Platter appetizer and absolutely loved the mushrooms, crab cakes and bruschetta. Our salads were good and the waitress called it well when I ordered the spicy bacon ranch dressing and she warned me that it is pretty spicy and I might want some cucumber ranch to tone it down a bit. Definitely! My daughter got the Chicken James dish, which was delicious, but I took the recommendation of our waitress and ordered the Stir-Fry and while I’m sure it is liked by many(it looked beautiful and the vegetables and meat were cooked to perfection), it was just a bit too sweet for my taste. My daughter tried it and loved it. I only ate a few bites of it, though. Just too darn sweet for me. I guess I like my stir-fry more on the tangy side. What I did love, though, was the teacup bread and cinnamon butter. Yum! I will absolutely be giving Pipers a second try for an entrée I might like more.

This restaurant is a Gem, we’ve been going every year for the seafood celebration. The menu for this event 4 – 6 weeks changes every year. The food and service are great. We even have been in for their 2 for $ 25 special as well. It’s just is so evident that the Chef owns the restaurant because the little things like the tea cup rolls you see the attention to detail. The made from scratch dressings for salads, the preparation of the vegetables are the best. Honestly I’m not a vegetarian and no where near close to eating enough veggies but if you wanting to eat at a upscale restaurant and lose weight no question this place is the best. After you slim down come back for the steak and desserts…

This place was very empty at lunch. It was a pretty straight forward mall restaurant. Nice waitress for standard restaurant. Good family style garden salad. However, the place thinks higher of itself. Just gave the impression that my mom was trying to impress visitors but not the actual way the family was. Bread served in a bowl was nice and warm. Whipped butter very cinnamony. Good unique taste. I had the honey roasted pecan chicken. I liked it. We had a very late lunch and they were in too much of a hurry to get us out. The rice and carrots were also good. Can’t go wrong going here.

This was our second visit to Piper’s, the first time was over a year+ ago. I was hoping this visit would change my original opinion, but sadly, it did not. I will echo other reviews in that I’m not sure why this place garners such good reviews. The service is good, the place is clean enough and the staff is friendly. However, it’s a restaurant. The food should be better and the price should reflect the quality of the food. The food isn’t bad per se, it’s just not good. And for not good food, the prices are outrageous. $ 100 for chuck roast, frozen fish and pork loaf? Seemingly the draw here is the bread and butter, in which case, I think I’ll pass.

This place is a diamond in the rough! The service is friendly and attentive. The décor classy, but casual. There is a beautiful large fish tank in the center of the main dining area with colorful fish like«Nemo». We ordered the crab cakes and filet medallions with Caesar Salad along with the seasonal tempura battered asparagus. This was absolutely delicious with two dipping sauces: homemade mustard and ranch. Next they brought our salads. The Caesar dressing was perfect! Their signature teacup bread is fresh and homemade. It comes with this cinnamon butter that is «too die for»! Amazing! Our meals came… Everything was good, except they over cooked my steak to well done when I asked for medium. They offered to re-cook it, however I was hungry and didn’t want to wait. It was dry but the dipping sauce made up for it. They offered a free dessert for the mistake(so I’ll keep the review at 5 stars, as no one is perfect). We went with the bread pudding. It was excellent! Overall, I highly recommend Pipers!

Pipers is the best American cuisine around the Indianapolis area. We have eaten here in the restaurant dining room as well as in the medium sized hall they have, that can be rented for events. Service is great. The best description I can think of for the food is home cooking taken up a notch to be just a little adventurous and unique. Be sure to leave room for dessert if you can — it is often seasonal. Recently in the fall we had Apple cobbler.

I was attracted to the menu and Unilocal rating so we tried this place. There’s not much around this area. It reminds me of a place I’d find in Florida filled with retired folks. It’s dated inside and the food lacks some seasoning. You could have a bad meal like my wife did(they took it off the check) or an ok meal as I did but I doubt you could have a meal that would deserve its current rating. I had grouper Provençal with new potatoes and a vegetable medley. The fish was cooked perfectly as were the vegetables. Good. They have cheap salt and pepper on the table but they should use fresh ground pepper in the kitchen and sea salt on the food. I started with a overdressed caesar. Good otherwise but not worth the $ 2 up charge over a house. Would have been better with some freshly ground pepper.

I’ve been to Piper’s many times over many years and never been disappointed. I don’t go often, perhaps once/year, and every time I’m there I think I should go more often. The main thing to know is Piper’s is a chef owned restaurant with everything scratch made. Legit! Let me set the scene for the meal — Valentine’s Dinner — just before I am to leave the country for three weeks — this has to be great. We decide to order from their Valentine’s Special Menu with a bottle of wine and dessert. We strategically skipped the appetizer to save room for dessert. The wine we ordered was a California blend of chardonnay with some sweeter varieties to take the edge off. The waitress said this is chef’s favorite. Opened with the house salad — a nice simple salad — and Piper’s famous teacup bread. Piper’s teacup bread alone is worth a visit. It’s that good — served with a cinnamon butter — yum! We ordered the Roast Tenderloin for two and it was quite a presentation on a huge platter. A large piece of tenderloin, perfectly cooked with fingerling potatoes, green beans, carrots, mushrooms served with two sauces on the side — bearnaise and a wine reduction with mushrooms. This presentation allowed me to carve the beef and serve my wife, which was nice! I opted to carve into four pieces. We split the potatoes, I got most of the carrots, she got most of the beans, and I got the mushrooms — all according to our preferences. I killed the mushroom sauce with my steak. My wife tried the bearnaise and opted for no sauce. The potatoes were garlicky and delicious. The other veggies were all well prepared — every side was a distinct and intentional recipe — and it was all wonderful. The dessert was chocolate cake — a huge piece that could be shared by more than two people, but we killed it. It’s a nice chocolate cake with a rich icing served with a pop of whipped cream and strawberries. Chef Will reportedly makes this cake when he’s in trouble with his wife!

Lets just be honest… I think very little of the south side. Like it literally never crosses my mind, especially when I am trying to figure out where to eat. But Pipers has put the south side back on my «mind map». I was thoroughly impressed with their Savour the Southside menu, there was a huge variety of options. I shared it with another person and I think we did a pretty good job of getting a nice assortment of choices and everything was very tasty. I absolutely loved the croissant pizza! The place doesn’t look like much on the outside but the inside was very tastefully decorated and the service was very good. This is definitely a place i would frequent again if i happened to be on the south side.

For this restaurant to be located in the southside of Indy(an area I rarely step foot,) I was thoroughly impressed. I lived on the southside for three months when I first moved to Indianapolis and I was never a fan. Shady Wal-Marts, shady people. Granted, not everyone on the southside is shady, but I’m just sayin’. Back to Pipers, though! It was nicely laid out on the inside and their menu was filled with yummy options. I was there for a Unilocal Elite dinner during their«Savor the Southside» specials. A friend of mine and I ordered the croissant pizza, calamari and mahi tacos to share. All of it was great. Let me backtrack — before the main dishes, I ordered a very simple Caesar salad and was pleased. Can’t go wrong with a good salad. The entire table decided to go family style when it was time for the desserts. We each nibbled on everything and were all full and happy by the time our dinner was complete. Thank you, Pipers, for giving me another view of the southside. I can now think of that part of Indy in a better light.

I don’t know how many ways I can say«I love Pipers, you should too!». I’m so thankful there is at least ONE awesome restaurant in this random SW-ish area, and happy I was able to spread the Piper’s love to other Unilocalers during Savor the Southside. Every meal starts with teacup bread & homemade butter — I would eat that ish everyday if I could. Then there’s the salad. I could’ve gone with Will’s salad, but I really love their wedge(I judge every restaurant on their wedge, Piper’s is top-notch). My across-the-table partner & I selected salmon fingers, Diane’s steak & crab cakes for our 3 entrees — dude were they all awesome! The salmon and crab cakes were very fresh, almost like I was still in Seattle. The steak + mashed potatoes sauce I really didn’t know what to think, but hey, it tasted awesome. I could’ve gone for more of those mashed taters, but sharing is caring. If you know what Homer Simpson looks like when he thinks of donuts, that is myself and Piper’s.

I’ve driven by this place several times and have always wondered what it was like. I finally was able to come for dinner and came away pleasantly surprised. The food was definitely more foodie-friendly than I thought based on the pretty non-descript exterior and the southside location. Presentations were beautiful and the service was spot-on. It was pretty dead on a Monday night and I wondered why it wasn’t more busy. Then I remembered — South Side. Everyone flocks to the crappy chain restaurants to wait an hour to be served mass-produced crap by bored high school students. Pipers is a real diamond-in-the-rough that I wish more locals would patronize(for their own sake).

Guilty as charged: I need to make my way to the south side more often. What a delightful surprise Pipers was for a Savor the Southside feast(and a really good deal at that! $ 25 for two people: salads for each, three shared plates and a dessert!). Let’s tell this story chronologically, shall we? I’d probably blow past this place a dozen times before ever taking notice of it — not that it’s unattractive, more that it’s camouflaged with its beige surroundings. The inside has a lot of potential — high ceilings, a fairly spacious bar and fish aquariums(I would typically say ick to the aquariums, but for some reason I really enjoyed it in this setting). There definitely seems to be an older crowd here, but the menu is one that leaves room for a younger crowd. My fellow diners, who currently live on the south side, informed me that Pipers has been making efforts to reach out to the younger demographic. Drinks: They hand stuff their olives with bleu cheese AND it tastes incredible paired with a Bloody Maria(Bloody Mary with tequila — thanks, Peter P ;) I’d go back for the olives alone. First course: Will’s Salad — a Thai-like chopped salad with slivered almonds, red peppers, crunchy ramen noodles and a delicious made in-house dressing. This would make for a great full order to go at lunch time! I think it was the crunch that did me in. Shared plates/entrees: When preparing for this dinner, I was thrilled to see fried green tomatoes on the menu — and not just any old fried green tomatoes, these uns were sliders spread with pimento cheese. Delicious!(However, it wouldn’t have hurt to add some arugula, herbs or other green to help juice it up a bit more). My second shared plate was the pork tenderloin sliders with red onions and bleu cheese. The meat was a bit on the dry side, but paired with the cheese it made for a great flavor combo. Dessert: When chowing down with a big group — what better way to sample the dessert scene than by ordering one of each of the five options? Bread pudding, banana pudding pie, crème brûlée, chocolate cake and a ice cream rolled in walnuts with a fudge coating. I’d probably give the crème brûlée the blue ribbon. The sugar crusted top was perfection! Lastly, the service of the evening was great. I’m sure it was difficult to keep up with our 10 person table. Thank you for showing me what’s up on the south side, Pipers!
