This place is near and dear to my heart! I used to perform(dance) with some of their shows when I was younger, and it is still a family tradition to see their shows every time we are in Brown County during the fall. Peewinkle’s makes you feel like a kid again, as the shows transport you into a magical world where you forget all of your adult troubles and responsibilities. Okay, that may have been the most cheesy thing I’ve ever written, but it’s totally true! I’m a huge fan of their Christmas show and their Halloween show. This is a great place to take your kids, too, because they do crafts with the kids and allow them to see how the marionettes work. Adults, kids, everyone needs to visit this place! Did I mention they have adults-only shows too? Yep, this is a place anyone can go and have an unforgettable time.

This is an entertaining, unique, and inexpensive experience for kids. Brought my almost 2 year old in for a puppet show during a weekday morning and it was pretty packed! I was nervous that we’d have to make a quick exit in case 1) he was unable to sit through a show(his first theater experience of any kind) or 2) the puppets totally scared him. But there was no need for me to worry. Seating is rows of benches and although he wouldn’t sit still before the show got started, he was busy devouring the free popcorn. We saw«Peewinkle Goes Fishing» and he actually loved the main storytelling puppets – skinny gnome-like Peewinkle with a pointy red hat and big eyes and a pelican. In fact, every time they came on stage after a vignette, he shouted with excitement and pointed to the stage. He danced and laughed and was even a little jealous when a couple kids got to go up on the stage. We’ll definitely be back!

This place is seriously awesome. Myself & my 18 month old daughter went for the summertime cabaret. You have to buy tickets in advance(they are $ 7 for the adult, under 2 is free). My daughter was mesmerized by the marionettes & she was dancing to all of the old fashioned music. It is a small theater with bench seating. Did I mention they serve bags of popcorn! This would be such a fun place to take a group or just yourself. It’s great for kids & families. I can’t say enough good things!

We’re exposed to incredibly flashy forms of entertainment every day. For example, a few weeks ago, I took my kids to watch The Lorax in IMAX3D. Whatever one thinks of the movie, watching a wonderfully colorful movie on an incredibly large screen in 3D stimulates the senses. One of the things I do when I expose my kids to different entertainment is I watch their face and body language to see how engaged they are. They were at least as engaged watching Peewinkle’s as they were watching Lorax IMAX3D, maybe more so. For another $ 3, they made their own puppet. At night, they put on a puppet show for us. That’s interactive entertainment and engagement — you can tell the hamsters are running upstairs. They didn’t re-enact Lorax the night after watching it. Puppetry is an ancient art form that I hope survives. Peewinkle’s is one of those places that hopes to perpetuate this art form, and more people should patronize it. The proprietors are certainly not raking it in; I’m not even sure how they stay in business. Take your kids to a timeless form of entertainment and expose them to something very different than what they are exposed to daily. You won’t regret it.
