Irvington Branch Public Library

I have been here several times already. Alone and with my children. I waited to write my review for several reasons. A library is just that, a library. Several things going on at once. They wear multiple hats. Not like a restaurant that has one. job. Serve me and make it fantastic. People are constantly going in and out. Some loitering and some actually using the facility. Usually the same people working, granted days may change, but even after a few visits, a patron begins to recognize the employees. All that said, I have had nothing but good luck here at my neighborhood branch. Every employee I have encountered (specifically Joe and Erin) have been knowledgeable and helpful. Also, they have demonstrated patience, as I can be a tough customer. The facility itself is relatively clean and they have computer areas and a user friendly scanning station. There is also a nice play area (w/​computers too), for kiddos. I am a fan of libraries in general and hope they never disappear, but this is a good one. If you are in Irvington, I recommend using its resources. Especially if you are homeschooling family.

I live a short walk away from the Warren Branch, but I always take the bus just to come to the Irvington. I went to send a fax and while they don’t have fax machines, the man at the reference desk pointed me in the direction of a laundry mat down the street that did. I called in today to reserve a copy of Hitchhiker’s guide to the galaxy and the same man reserved it and had it sent to the Warren Branch since it is closest to me. All the staff there are incredibly helpful and friendly. Plus you can read your damn good books while eating some bomb ass pizza across the street at Jochamo’s. Pizza and books, fuck the fuck yeah.

Let me be clear, I love libraries. period. but this one is really quite great. The layout make sense, the request pick ups are convenient, and there are plenty of check out stations. If you’d like a recent movie, make sure to look at the wall behind the circulation clerks. It took me an embarrassingly long time to notice those. Be warned, you will have to check it out as soon as they hand it to you so be ready to check out.

Great library, helpful, knowledgeable, pleasant staff, and fantastic location too. There’s an area for drop-​off/​pick-​up at the front. Across the street is a Starbucks, pizza place, several other restaurants, a candy store (Black Sheep) and even a brewery! The community room is spacious and nice and there’s a fridge and sink inside if you want to have a meeting or birthday party there. Steve is an especially helpful librarian and he even knows about science, if your kids need help with a school project.
