Very disappointed in this hospital and their palliative care unit. They withheld food and water from my husband suffering from cancer until I turned him over to hospice to get him out of the hospital. They had someone setting in the room to call the nurse whenever I went in, stopped my and my son from feeding him. He wanted food and water, however was so weak by the time I got him home he died in a few days. He also had a huge bedsore that if I hadn’t seen the blood they wouldn’t have told me, called it a deep tissue wound, hospice nurse said no it was a bedsore.

My mom got shipped here from our local band-aid station recently after a bout with pancreatitis and gall bladder issues with a mound of unstable bloodwork on top of that. She ended up on the 6th in what they refer to as «The Dan Quayle suite». Apparently Dan Quayle was a patient there(before there was HIPAA? I don’t know why they told us that), and requested a private area in which he could have meetings and such. So my mom ended up in one of two rooms on the floor which is a suite with an attached conference room. She’s a church treasurer, by the way, but I guess the Lord’s business warrants such an elaborate setup. Ha. It allowed for my aunt and me to stay all through Thanksgiving weekend since they had a foldout couch and nice recliner. I was glad we got to have our family time through the holiday, even if mom couldn’t eat Thanksgiving dinner. :) Dr. Watkins was my mom’s surgeon, who is excellent dealing with the pancreatitis/gall bladder issue combination. He was quite personable, and a good surgeon I’d suppose since my mom is still kickin. Also very notable was Dr. Shermann, who is a professor for the medical school they had. He explained everything in English, including illustrations. Overall, our experience with the hospital was great. Between all of the doctors and students, there were about 5 people managing my mom’s care. The nurses were also wonderful and personable and provided excellent care. Alicia was my mom’s favorite on the 6th floor. If I ever had to have my guts worked on, I’d come here in a heartbeat.
