What a friendly place! I had to get a ring resized and enjoyed my experience so much I’ll look forward to returning to purchase jewelry. Their selection was great and I felt respected and welcomed; no high pressure sales or demands to complete a contact card. It’s clear why this place has such great reviews.

Being as budget and value conscious as I am since expecting the arrival of baby #2, I kept looking at inferior quality and overpriced jewelry at the mall, thinking that is all I could afford. After frustration with overpriced chains, I decided to try the «independent» retailers on «Diamond Row.» You know, that area near Keystone at the Crossing, River Crossing, Rivers Edge and the 86^th/​82^nd Street corridor that has the upscale jewelry sellers, not to mention, upscale prices. After trying the first few on the 86^th Street side (west of the David Wolf green bridge) I started to think that maybe that the janky jewelry in the mall was all I could afford.
But I gave it one more go at Hofmeister on the 82^nd Street side of the bridge and I am glad I drove the extra ½ mile. After getting in their secure entrance I was immediately and warmly greeted by Patrick. I mention this because in walking into three other stores, I was never greeted until I was about to leave, and only one store was moderately busy. I guess the car I drove up in just was not priced high enough for them. Anyhoo, Patrick listened to what I wanted to get because it is not every year that such a milestone is achieved. After some kicking around of ideas, he showed me the exact piece of jewelry I had in my head. It was amazing. It was also the perfect size.
Although not the best part, the pricing was great. He looked at the tag compared it to the actual value of other pieces of similar quality and gave me the better of the prices. Whoa! Selling something for what it was actually worth on the market? What was this? the Bill Clinton Years? I spent $ 300 under my budget and was able to get it for six months no financing.
But by far and away, the best part of my Hofmeister experience was the quality of the diamonds. They sparkled! Gosh! They shined!!! They sparkled in low light, too! I had only gotten diamonds of this quality when I had ordered jewelry back in the day (when I was a baller.) I was very happy with the piece.
So whether you are looking for something fancy or practical, Patrick has you covered at Hofmeister. But for the next special occasion, I may splurge for the $ 20K bracelet…

Well, I just had another experience with them this week, so I thought I would do an update. They are still my favorite jeweler in town. It is where my husband buys all of my nice gifts. He got me a mother’s ring with a sapphire in it and he didn’t want to spend a lot. He has never felt out of place and they always treat him with a lot of respect even when he is not dropping thousands. We have bought four or five pieces in the last three years and always get great quality jewelry and never feel like we are out of place, even if we come in casually dressed.
I went today to have the ring re-​sized, which they do free, and they also cleaned and tightened up my engagement/​wedding set. They were so pleasant to deal with, offering coffee, water, beer, wine, etc. to all their customers. Everyone is so pleasant and welcoming. I am never intimidated when I am in the store and there are SO many beautiful pieces.
Erich and I are «lifers» at Hofmiester. It is definitely the place we will continue to give our business. :) They will do anything for you and are always fair and reasonable.
They handcraft everything in their basement and will also show you the shop, which is really cool! I love it there. Shiny things make me happy! :)
