This is such a great example of Repurposing an old building and giving it a new vision and life. The Harrison Center serves as an art studio for many of my favorite local painters as well as many mixed media artists. Walking through each space you get a sense of the personality of the artist through their art as well as through the way their space is laid out and decorated. I’m not sure what it costs to use a space, but it would definitely be a place I would be interested in working and creating art in if I were a serious artist instead of a hobbiest.

Carolyn Springer is a truly gifted artist and I’m lucky to have two of her works in my collection. Her encaustic works flow with vibrant color and shadows that change with the light in a room. What may seem subtle almost becomes deliberate on the board as you study the designs she has created. Carolyn’s work needs to be seen, no picture can record the fidelity of subtle changes that make her work so interesting. A must for a modern collection, highly recommended!

This is a building where current artists that live in Indianapolis create their work in studios. This place is extremely interesting. The artists are all working in various mediums, photography, painting, mixed media art work, all kinds of creativity going on in here. I believe that the artists can actually live in the space if they choose to(although I might be mixing it up with the Wheeler Art Center in Fountain Square, not sure… Wheeler is another good one) anyway, some really good work here. Like I said before… artists of all kinds, one of my personal favorites is Carolyn Springer. Wow, is she good! She always is creating new unique varied scale fantastic stuff. She is a painter and also mixed media artist using an encaustic wax process. There are others here that are really strong artists as well. The first Friday of every month you can check out these studios. Also, the art galleries in Indy everywhere on Massachusetts Avenue and the Wheeler Art Center has openings the first Friday of every month in Indianapolis. Someone who wants to purchase good work for their home should attend the first Friday art openings, you will have fun, meet new people, see good art! All of that!
