If I could give this store zero stars, that would be too much. I went to the Castleton Gander Mountain store on Sunday 04/19/2015 with my wife and daughter to purchase an Uberti 1873 Cattleman pistol. There were only two associates working the firearms counter, and there were easily ten customers in line before me. I took a number from the ticket dispenser and began waiting for my turn. After an hour of waiting, the firearms associates were working with the same customers they were helping when I walked in the store. After my long wait, I walked out of the store empty handed and irate. I don’t know what kind of operation Gander Mountain is trying to run, but they have permanently lost a customer that buys a lot of firearms. I will never set foot in a Gander Mountain again. On a side note to the Castleton management staff, hire some more associates and treat your customers like they actually matter. Without a customer base, any business is doomed to failure.

I hate to leave a bad review for this place but I feel that I should. I was given 2 canoe seats as a gift, and they didn’t fit. I went to return them, and as I did the customer service manager ran off. The kid doing the return asked him to stay to help him, but he left anyway. When he radioed him to tell him he needed him, he told him they couldn’t return them. Why? I couldn’t even get an explanation. If you won’t honor your return policy, at least be courteous enough to explain why. I actually like Gander Mountain, but I don’t care for places with this type of service. Now I’m stuck with nearly $ 100 worth of stuff I can’t use. Very dissapointed.

Gander is a good store generally. High prices on everything it seems but hey, it is a brick and mortar store and I like to support them. But this was the first and only time I’ll visit this particular store. Here is my story: went with a friend who wanted to buy a skeet shotgun. ONE person working the gun counter, eight people waiting. One LARGE ugly woman who later claimed to be the gun counter manager would not help ANY customer. Not ONE of us would she help, talk to, even make eye contact. She stood by, watching the ONE guy who was literally running to help people. But she wouldn’t help one iota. Pathetic. She would occasionally stock something on a shelf, mumble personal stuff to a co-worker, shuffle paper work, watch her phone, etc. So I asked out sales guy who the lard-ly woman was… he rolled his eyes and said that is his supervisor, the supervisor for that area. I was shocked! Then to top it all off, at the end of the gun purchase, she walks over and said«well, she cant buy that». Mind you, the government form was completed and approved. So, after much hassle, after calling other stores to learn how to do her job, she agreed to sell it. There is a BIG difference between being cautious and proper with a sale, and just being negligent. She was the later. After TWOHOURS to buy one item, we left with the shotgun, promising to NEVER be there for again for the torture and indignity of watching this big olé gal look demeaningly at we customers like a lady at the BMV would do. No way. If they are going to hire large women to manage an area, they should train them properly first… in customer service and in the basics of making a sale.

The service and selection of items is really good. The people working there are very knowledgeable and helpful when trying to decide on which items to look at.

I didn’t actually purchase anything from Gander Mountain as we were just researching, but Gander Mountain is where you should go if you want a large selection of camping, hunting, and general outdoor equipment, but don’t want to have to deal with the size of Dicks sporting goods. That’s not to say that their selection sucks, it’s just more refined to things people are actually buying. The prices are pretty much on par with other stores like it. What sets it apart is the customer service. The employees seem a little more educated on the products and will engage you, but leave you alone if you say you are just browsing.
