I prefer DG over Wal-Mart pretty much always. The prices are comparable for most items but I find the makeup, toiletries & store brand body wash/shampoo are actually better than many brand name equivalents.

It’s a low-price chain store. It’s not a «everything’s a dollar» store(such as Dollar _Tree_). It’s kind of like Family Dollar, but I like Dollar General better than Family Dollar. They sell«regular» items, not closeouts; so what you see there one week, will be there on a regular basis. They have store brand(«DG» brand, Clover Valley and some others), plus some obscure brands-you-never-heard-of, plus national name brand(such as Libby’s canned vegetables). For example, In the health and beauty aids section, you’ll find Bayer aspirin, plus DG brand. Tums, plus DG brand, etc. The national name brand items are cheaper than what you regularly pay at Kroger and Marsh, but they are NOT as cheap as Kroger’s/Marsh’s _sale_prices. You can get decent men’s blue jeans, Open Trails brand,(mine were made in «Swaziland») for about $ 10/pair. I often get trail mix/tropical mix snacks. You usually find these stores in poorer neighborhoods. They now have some basic fresh/frozen foods in addition to the non-perishable foods. Not a grocery store, but enough that you can do a little regular shopping for food staples if you don’t want to make an extra trip to Marsh/Kroger. But if you’re here shopping for food, be sure to check out Aldi next door. I really like Aldi for groceries.
