This is our go to place for Chinese food. Every meal is great and service is always good.

Food is good tho the people that work the Togo orders can’t seem to get it right. I have ordered Togo several times and they leave something out. And when you complain the just say so sorry and never make it right. There a lot better places to go. This was my last order there.

Met some friends here who get take out often from this restaurant. The four of us ordered an assortment of food. I, personally ordered the General’s Chicken and found the dish just adequate in taste and texture. Definitely would not order it again. My husband ordered the Triple Delight and also found it just average and said he wouldn’t order it again. There are some many other Chinese restaurants in the area that offer better food. I will say that service was above average, but not at a level that cause me to want to return.

I’m not sure has happened to this place but we use to eat there all the time around 15 years ago and loved it. Recently moved back to the area and it is very disappointing. I’ve given it 3 trips and I’m calling it quits. The crab rangoon that everyone talks about taste like straight cream cheese. The moo shu has a chicken broth type«sauce» with zero flavor that seems to be broth. My black pepper beef had very little flavor or black pepper. What a waste and pricey compared to others. I’ve never taken the time to write a review before but this was truly disappointing. Me and the wife threw away everything we ordered after a few bites and I can’t say that’s ever happened. I’m still perplexed how they stay in business after my recent experiences. People really need to get out and experience what taste is all about.

I met a couple of friends for lunch at Master Wok today. The Luncheon Combination is a great value and is served from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm each day. The Lunch Combo offers a good selection from at least 20 freshly prepared entrees, including a bunch of my favorites, like Cashew Chicken, General’s Chicken, Shrimp with Vegetables and the one I ordered today: Beef with Broccoli. One of my dining companions ordered Braised Chicken and the other had Mongolian Beef. In addition, every Combo starts with a cup of Egg Drop or Hot & Sour Soup, followed by a choice of 2 Crab Rangoon or an Egg Roll. Entrees all arrive at your table with a generous mound of Steamed or Fried Rice. I chose the Egg Drop soup served with a plate of crunchy won ton strips. Egg Drop has long been my «go-to» soup and this one was full of flavor and a great rendition but, after being invited to taste the Hot & Sour soup Mary ordered, Master Wok’s version may just change my preference. Hot & Sour, Master Wok style, is an incredibly flavorful, rich brown broth with lots of sliced mushrooms, tofu and other goodies. I will definitely give it a try on my next visit. I ate the Crab Rangoon with a very good hot mustard, while both friends used the Sweet and Sour sauce liberally. Even the Fried Rice was exceptionally tasty and the Beef(tender & generous) and Broccoli(just a bit of crunch, not limp or mushy) hit the right spot with me. By the time I had eaten the soup and the appetizers I could eat only about half of the rice and entrée, so I had a dinner-sized serving to bring home for later. Which makes the price of lunch even more of a bargain! Our server was efficient and thoughtfully allowed us to eat at a leisurely pace with minimal interruptions except to remove empty plates or dishes. But I expect that those on a set lunch hour schedule could be in and out much more quickly, if that is necessary. The dining room is filled with natural light and decorated with subtle taste. The main dining room has a really wonderful freshwater fish tank and pretty pots of orchids and bamboo scattered throughout with a mixture of booths and tables. I am a fan of Chinese food and also a fan of Master Wok. It is a good choice when you find yourself in the Independence area.

Fair overall, average all around except the hot n sour soup was exceptional. Crab rangoon was weirdly flaky and my Sweet n Sour pork was good as expected. I may give it a 5-star review if not for the ambience. The ambience inside is a weird blend of «local diner chain» and«classy sit-down restaurant in the suburbs of a large city» feels throw off what one would expect of your typical quality Chinese restaurant.

Master wok is by far the best Chinese food this side of P. F Changs. The crab rangoon are unparalleled by any other restaurant and worth the trip for them alone. While the prices for dinner are a bit steep the quantity of food is abundant. The trick is to go for lunch, where you will spend less than 8 dollars and walk out barely able to stand. Best dishes: general’s chicken(lunch); sesame double delight(dinner), moo shu pork(dinner) **must get crab rangoon**

I had no idea they had such excellent lunch choices for $ 6.50 to $ 7.00. I went in, ordered, waited about 10 minutes, and got my order. They include not only one, but 2 crab ragoon, sweet and sour soup, or hot and sour soup, and the entrée, very generous for the price. I had cashew chicken, my son had sweet and sour chicken. I actually think his sweet and sour chicken which is deep fired, was better than mine. But that’s not saying anything. My cashew chicken was a generous offering of chicken, cashews, vegetables and white jasmine rice. I’m eager to try their General Tso’s chicken, and other offerings. There’s alot of choices on their lunch menu. I’ve always loved Master Wok for dinner, but never tried it for lunch. For dinner, it’s kind of pricey, but it’s a gorgeous restaurant. The décor is beautiful. It’s quiet. I love eating there. Their lunch menu is a great find. I’ve been there for dinner a few times, and never have had any problems. NO complaints.

Master Wok has always been a favorite lunch spot for years now. It no longer will be on our list of lunch stops. The food has always been good and was good on our last visit. Only one problem; a cockroach walking on the wall of the fish tank right next to our table. We did not finish our meal and we told our waitress and showed her the photos of the cockroach. She was embarrassed and then high-tailed and never to be seen again after placing our full bill on the table. Unknown how to handle such a matter we went to the front hostess/cashier. We explained the situation and she proceeded to get defensive. She then explained to us cockroaches are in all restaurants and she would not discount the bill. After a call to the owner we received 50% discount. How generous. She then proceeded to explain how Master Wok has had issues with bugs and they spray regularly. How wonderful of them to spray so effectively. The issue does not lay with the cockroach. It lies with the poor customer service. A simple apology and no charge for the meal would have been sufficient. Customer service is this person’s priority and they have failed miserably. If you like bugs near your food and incompetent customer service please dine at Master Wok.

Great food! Lunch specials are almost UNDERpriced. My favorite Chinese.

I have to say that the 2-star rating is partly because my last meal was subpar and partly because the quality of food here has slipped in the past few years. The crab rangoon here are delicious! My last entrée, which used to be my all-time favorite, the chicken with garlic sauce, tasted like the chicken was beginning to turn. Perhaps it was my palate, but I stuck to the rice & veggies. I want so badly to give Master Wok 3 stars; however the quality of food is just so average I would rather get takeout form China One in Blue Springs.

Calling all persons who live in bubbles who like crap Asian food. This is probably the most awful Chinese Restaurant in the nation! Upon entering, we waited a good five minutes for the three ladies at the cash register to realize that we were standing there. Then one of them came out and asked, «do you need to be seated?» My question is this, «The sign says, Please Wait to be Seated.» It seems her question had an obvious answer. Or maybe I just expect too much??? My fiancé order the Szechuan Tofu and I ordered the Moo Shu vegetable, adding tofu would have cost $ 3… The tofu was not cooked… at all, it was just thrown in with some brown(not spicy) sauce with canned peas and vegetables. So awful he could not eat it. My Moo shu vegetables were crisp and al dente, just how I like it. However, they must get a plethora of suburbanites or bubble living patrons, that they brought out rice instead of the pancakes. When I asked for the pancakes, they took away the rice and brought me some tortillas, honest to God, flour tortillas. In the end, I just ate the veggies with plum sauce on it. My fiancé helped me finish my food as he could not even eat his. Since we were in the Mexican spirit after receiving tortillas, we promptly drove down the road to El Maguey to have fried ice cream and margaritas to get the awful taste out of our mouths. Coco’s Ratings: Service: Meh to Bah Food: Disgusting Would I go back? Heck NO!

Really good, fresh Chinese at a very reasonable price. The service was adequate but it was not crowded. I would definitely go back the next time I’m in town.

Generally pleased. The food was good. My Crab Rangoons weren’t all that hot but still tasted good. Seems luke warm food is a trend these days. Had to ask my waiter for a new glass of tea as my glass had food stuck to it. so he dumped that tea into a new glass instead of replacing the whole thing. A little freaked about that. But overall, it was good. I’d go back.

This was a pretty good place– I am pretty picky with the chinese food I eat, the egg drop soup came out incredibly hot I actually had to put ice in it to cool it down, however everything came out pretty quick; it is a lot of food for a lunch menu, I ended up having to take most of it back with me. Over all great food, service was ok kind of busy at the time. I will be going back!

Master Wok has been our«go to» American Chinese restaurant for several years. My favorite thing on the menu is their Won Ton Soup for Two. It’s filled with veges & several different meats. I usually pair that with an appetizer of chicken on a stick and that’s my meal. I also like their steamed vege’s. I think the general tao’s & orange chicken is basically the same dish. They do have the typical menu items and they usually do a pretty good job. They are a bit pricey compared to some other area restaurants of it’s kind in the area. It’s a good pick.

Oh, me likie! This place is a unique blend of local Chinese and PF Changs … it IS local, but it isn’t a hole-in-the-wall kind of Chinese place, and it is beautiful in it’s décor. It is always a good sign when a restaurant is packed — AND when it’s packed and you don’t have to wait long for a table. This is one of three Master Wok locations around KC and surely has character with its beautiful, beautiful modern Chinese décor and large menu. Did I mention the décor? :) As soon as you sit down you get a big ‘olé plate of fried wontons. LOVE. Most meals come with crab rangoon, shrimp roll, or soup. I ordered from the«healthier choices» menu — a tofu and veggies dish with white rice(they only offer fried and white, no brown), which was perfect in size and taste. The husband had some sweet and sour soup and left saying: «If I could eat that all day, every day, I would be happy.» Dang! Only qualm is that our waitress was hard to find — which meant no water refills when needed. Other than that — we were happy to pay less than $ 18 for two very satisfying lunches. I shall be back.

I’m sort of a snob about most Asian food, especially Chinese, or Chinese-American, rather. I was raised on my mom’s Malaysian/Chinese food, which [from a very biased POV] is the best food on earth, so I’m a little spoiled by authenticity. If a restaurant offers dishes like General Tso’s, sweet and sour whatever, beef and broccoli, chow mein, etc, I’m generally very uninterested, but will try it at the behest of others. So when I first went to Master Wok a few years ago, I was less than excited to see the same items on their menu and imagine having to eat another fatty beef strip or a rubbery chicken with some frozen veggies on the side. Fortunately, this local chain pleasantly surprised me and I’ve been back several times. The thing that distinguishes Master Wok from other Chinese restaurants around is simply the fresh factor, which goes a long way for me. As said, the menu is standard. The food doesn’t have any surprisingly incredible spices or flavors, but it’s the quality that you probably hope for(and are often disappointed by not receiving) when you walk into any Chinese-American restaurant. If you order General Tso’s, you probably want crispy, spicy chunks of chicken, and that’s exactly what you get at Master Wok. Nothing surprising, but satisfying. The lunch and dinner prices are also quite reasonable. The gourmet dinner combo comes with your choice of egg drop or hot & sour soup(which is some of the tastiest I’ve had in town), plus a crab rangoon, shrimp roll and egg roll, your main dish, and dessert from Napoleon Bakery. By the time the main dish arrives, I’m usually already pretty full. My recommendation: Pineapple fried rice. An exorbitant amount of rice served in a pineapple. Nice presentation and tasty rice with chicken, shrimp, cashews, pineapple. A little different than what you’ll get at other places. It’s also one of the only local restaurants(that I can find, at least) in Independence, so I try to go there as much as possible when I’m dining in that area. Great service every time I’ve come in… really friendly servers and hosts. If you’re going to eat any Chinese-American food in town, go to Master Wok in Indy.

Master Wok isn’t innovative, but it always delivers. In the Chinese buffet era people sometimes forget how good Chinese food can be when it isn’t mass produced and dumped in steam tables. I have had beef, shrimp, and fried rice dishes and all were very good. The hot and sour soup is probably the best I have had. My girlfriend is addicted to the place and brings her kids here a couple times a month. That brings up a problem tho. The kids menu is great for her 8 year old, but the 11 year old is usually still hungry after the small portions of chicken or shrimp with smiley potato cakes. This will become more of a problem as the kids get older, as neither care for traditional Chinese food. The décor is subdued and but not super Asian. The service is always fast and efficient. If you are int he area give it a shot yourself as I have never had a wait there(unlike the big chain places).
