I am sitting here right now in a full blown sticky bun coma. I love their breakfast sandwiches at 5.99 today I ordered one with eggs Swiss cheese hash browns and jalapeño slices and it was all happy between two butter grilled rye slices. I also was given a free sample of sticky buns and cream cheese cinnamon rolls. The sticky buns are 100% southern think Crispy Crème donuts on steroids. This is another local treat. The New owners are very cordial and friendly. Teresa the baker made my sandwich with a smile. I love they have free wifi too. I’ll be back for sure. The market itself is full of products too everything for beer and wine to sleds and sundries. This place reminds me of the Bob Newhart Show or Petticoat Junction. It’s authentic small town.

Visiting Idy 2x a year, a customer at least since 2003 back when former owner Art took over, I always want this place to be better than it is. Because there’s no place in town to get a cheeseburger & fries for under $ 10 except here. But it never is better and I’m always disappointed. Comments are on the restaurant only; although there are still lots of empty shelf space in the market area. Its not the food for the low rating. The burger & fries I had was pretty good, especially on the gourmet bun.(Would have been nice if the clerk asked me if I wanted«everything» cuz I don’t care for onions, but guess that was also my responsibility to ask.) Unfortunately the place is always dirty looking, hand written signs for food prices, tables wobble and not wiped off regularly. The place used to be a meat market, now with a long, empty meat case, which makes it look old and junky. The bakery case also is usually empty. The floor looks filthy but probably just worn out. I understand how much money it takes for capital improvements in a small business, and I’m sure the new owners came in a few years ago under-capitalized. I think they are trying hard to give good service, but the challenge is they look at it every day, and probably don’t see the junky appearance that an occasional visitor — the life blood of a tourist town — sees. I truly hope they can be successful in upgrading soon. But until then, we just can’t go back until something drastically improves. COKEALERT: Yes! They have Coke, but also have Pepsi too, very rare for a small restaurant/market. TOILETPAPERNAPKINALERTNO! They do not serve napkins as thin as toilet paper as many fast food places are switching to.

Awful. Empty shelves. A prison commissary would do better. And rotting food. We bought a half gallon of milk — due date about four days from purchase — and on opening it discovered a foul mess. Not sure what’s going on, but an absolute stay-away.

What happened to this great market in Idyllwild. Very dirty and smells. Pricing too high for the value. I won’t be back I feel like I need to shower. Very poor selection. Could take pointers from the other convenience markets on the hill as to how to run a business

Stopped by to grab food before heading back home. They didn’t have a menu but they told us they have pizza so we tried it. It was delicious and huge for a medium size. Friendly people too!

Just got into town and needed a few basics. Wow what a weird place! Empty shelves, no veggies, very little bread to choose from! We will be seeking an alternative store for the rest of the week we are in town.

SAD. Do not go here. Looks like they’re on the verge of going out of business, with lots of barely stocked shelves. It’s kind of a weird vibe in here??? There’s another market a few minutes down the road. If you absolutely HAVE to to go to a market, go there.

The sandwiches are very very good and don´t forget to ask for the pies, those are freshly made and really delicious. We always get one every weekend.

Great place, good food! I always pick up a loaf of the jalapeño cheese bread when I’m in town, delicious!

I was hungry after the hike so the Combo pizza tasted good. My friends’ sandwiches were huge and they said the sandwiches were good.

My rating is specific to the Village market’s food counter, not the store at large. Not that I eat often at a quick-shop food counter, but I’d heard good things about their hot food offerings and can say that, after two visits — once for a burger and once for the breakfast burrito — and one pizza carryout experience, the food here is freakin’ awesome. While the atmosphere is no better than you’d expect from a local brand of a 7-Eleven(that’s what is is, after all), the food is restaurant quality. The pizza last night was outstanding, the burger last week was perfectly grilled, and the breakfast burrito this morning was easily the best breakfast burrito I’ve ever eaten. Made fresh while I waited, the scrambled eggs in it were fluffy, not overdone. The bacon was perfectly crunchy — just the right texture. Fresh tomatoes. A minor but appreciated thing; it was expertly wrapped. Though the burrito was generously stuffed, it held together well enough to hold it in one hand. I see that many have rated this place poorly, but mostly in the years past. I’ve heard it’s under new ownership/management, so maybe that’s why my experience is so positive. Give it a second chance.

reminds me of the convenience stores in ny without the accent. however, i’ve never seen a set up with a mini bar area and a sit down deli all rolled in one = diner meets bodega meets bar. loaded with booze-y picks and surprisingly tasty looking chop bread. i wonder what the scene is like at night. service was friendly and very attentive. had a gooey pepperoni pizza(piping hot!) and a cheese burger with a soda.

We were in this week to buy a newspaper and ended up buying a sack of really good homemade scones — apple, blueberry and raspberry-white chocolate, and the apple was our favorite. Thinking we would just check out the meat case before we left, we met completely delightful Richard, who sold us a Tri-tip roast. We cut it into thick steaks and barbecued it on the Weber with the lid down, and I tell you, these steaks were just about the most flavorful we’ve ever enjoyed, and at a lower price than our regular Seaside Market down in Cardiff.

Inside the Village Market there is a deli-type food service area. It is incredibly informal. There are plastic picnic tables and chairs. The staff is super friendly and competent. The pizza was delicious. The turkey sandwich with bacon and avocado was yummy too. We picked up a bottle of wine and took our food to go in order to eat back at the cabin. We chose to eat here twice out of our four night stay. The prices were very affordable.

The other reviews are right on. The people that work here are amazingly bad! It’s shocking. I’ve only made it up here a handful of times, but Mitch & friends ride Idyllwild and after climbing the mountain you don’t really care about service… you just want to shove something in your mouth after riding for 4 or 5 hours. The times I’ve climbed up I was excited to grab my deli sandwich… but looking back, it’s not worth it. The place is dirty and yes the people are ridiculous. I also just read Wendy M’s review to Mitch who has been here a number of times and he says it’s all true. Worse service, cussing, obnoxious… and the sandwiches are not great… it’s a convinience thing. But I don’t think we’ll come here anymore…

This market sucks and it way overpriced. There was hardly anything in the market and what they had was 3 or 4 times the price you’d find at any other market. The clerk there said it was bought out and everything would change, but right now it’s horrible. The food in the deli section didn’t look so good or fresh. We bought bread, mustard, sliced turkey, sliced cheese, milk, chips and eggs and it came out to $ 50! Don’t waste your time or money here, go to super market they have in town.

This is a review of the deli, not the overall market. Deli has some really great«fast food» selections, including excellent pizza and a nice veggie burger. The homemade pies are simply wonderful, as are the pull-apart breads. Also try the breakfast sausage, which is made on-site and sold by the pound. If this were the end of my review, I’d give the place 4 stars. It gets two stars becuase of the Deli staff, who are lewd and obnoxious. The swear loudly, yell profanity at each other, and do not care if children are nearby to hear them. We have complained multiple times and they don’t change. Because of this, the place feels unwelcoming and threatening. Best thing to do is to place your order over the phone, pick it up, and RUN out of there.

Village Market was our home base for milk, butter and some camping staples. Many items aren’t clearly marked so I assume that locals don’t shop here so much. Perhaps they are catered towards weekenders that don’t care so much about price tags. In relation to their overall size, they carry a ton of alcohol. The only issue we had was the momentary lack of a cashier.
