Duvall’s Hair Design

Got my hair colored here. I asked for dark brown, instead my hair was black. I called back the next day after sleeping on it and styling it and spoke to my stylist and told her that I was not happy with my hair and if there was anything she could do. She basically told me tough luck. For as much money as I spent, I really hoped I would’ve ended up with hair that I love. Luckily I had a friend that graduated from Duvall’s School of Cosmetology and helped me fix my hair. Really disappointed with my experience here.

I like the location and many of the staff members here. However, when miscommunications occur, I feel like Cody blames the customers. The employees there are the professionals and should know how to clarify what a customer wants. Employees should be willing to write down the details for customers to ensure clear communication. With the number of elderly and disabled customers they serve, their communication must improve. This is an issue of poor management and staff development. A salon that is not willing to adapt to the needs of its customers and develop positive, cooperative relationships with its clientele does not deserve your business.

Don’t bother trying to go here! I made an appointment, showed up and was told I had no appointment! Then after I’m home, I get a call from the same number asking why I didn’t show up for my appointment! This is not a professionally run salon. The girl at the front desk is very disorganized and not particularly accomodating.

I asked for long side-​swept bangs, but instead I got butchered baby bangs. The lady that cut my hair kept trimming and trimming trying to «fix» my bangs. The rest of the hair cut was pretty good. Good layers, but the bangs were so bad and waaayy above my eyebrows. Maybe she wasn’t used to cutting asian hair since all the other customers in there were white old ladies.

I called on Monday for an appointment for a cut and style. I had below shoulder length hair and needed to get ready for an active summer. Thank goodness I was set up with Diane Koehler the very next day. Diane is the stylist I’ve waited for my whole life! REALLY! She took a lot of time talking to me about cut, color, lifestyle, competency in doing my own hair. She cut over 8″ off the length and my hair has never looked better. She talked extensively about color and made an appointment for me to come back on Thursday for a color change. Again, fantastic. Diane has a very happy New client for life. Duvalls is a beautiful salon that is full service and staffed with true pros. So happy I went there first after moving here from Florida.

All of the hair stylists I saw looked like southern country women, and all of the customers I saw were little old ladies who could barely walk. I wasted my time and $ 30 on a men’s haircut, when I could’ve done a better job myself.

After 3 years of going to the really expensive hairstylists to the really experienced stylists, I am glad to say I have found Jannette.
Pros:
1. She listens to what you want, and makes practical suggestions. I went in with my mind on getting blunt bangs, but she explained why she thought they wouldn’t look good on my face shape.
2. I have curly hair that I flat iron out every chance I get, but she gave me a haircut that makes wearing them curly a pleasure as well.
3. She doesn’t try to sell you products like bigger salons (yes Ulta and Toni and Guy, I am talking about you). She will recommend the best products for your hair and they wont cost you an arm and leg
4. She’s super nice and just the right amount of talkative. I hate sitting in the chair of an awkward hair stylist, so this was definitely a big deal for me. I did not have the cash or cheques, I came with my debit card hoping she would take a card, but she graciously gave me a ride to the ATM even after it was beyond her work time.
Only Con:
She doesn’t take debit cards.
If you are looking for a stable, reasonably priced, experienced stylist, then this is your girl. Don’t expect a frilly upscale experience, but rest assured you will step out with a fabulous haircut.

I needed a haircut. I have thick, curly, hard to cut hair. Amber said I had the thickest ponytail she’s encountered all week. Ha!
I have a self-​created motto I live by when it comes to hair salons. If I see all the hairdressers have wacky haircuts, I don’t want them to touch me because I don’t want to walk around like a circus freak even if they do. I was relieved to see the desk girl had a cute but not freaky haircut. I was even more relieved to see Amber had very pretty, LONG not chopped up and perfectly highlighted blond hair. That instantly means she understands trim means trim and not hack off four inches. The other stylists also have chic but non freaky haircuts and colors which leads me to believe they are reliable, fashionable women.
Amber Stites (styyy ts) did a fantastic job. She asked questions and really listened to what I wanted. She was painstaking in doing my layers and gave me a phenomenal blow dry. She did better than the haircuts I’ve had at Toni and Guy and is cheaper too! 35 bucks for an hour of intense labor on my thick tresses. Amber is also very skilled with the de-​thicking scissors. My hair is lighter in weight on my head but won’t grow in all wonky.
A word of caution, this establishment does NOT take credit cards so have cash or a check handy. Private lot right off Harwood Road, cheaper and far less stressful than a trip to the mall. I won’t miss the techno music at Toni and Guy either. I’d rather listen to real people talk and laugh. Go see Amber! However, this place is… how to put it. the aesthetics of the room feels somewhat like a basement. Minus one star for feeling I was in a basement but overall it was a 5 star haircut.

Jannette (Bowen) has been doing by hair for 7 years now –I followed her to Duvall’s from Mouton’s and Get Fit. No — it’s not an ultra cool modern joint — the décor is actually a little shi-​shi-​poo-​poo for my tastes, but it’s ALL about the HUR, ok? She does excellent color and cuts!

Jannette is fantastic! She truly knows what she is doing with your hair. I have been going to her for years.

Have your pick of Hair stylist, but I use Jeannette. She is AWESOME. She is only by appointment only and to get the time you want make sure to call at least two weeks in advance!
