Not good at all! I would probably not go here ever again. Awful food, and service. Pretty much just elderly people go here and the place looks like it hasn’t changed for 40 years. Everything is worn down.

Had not been there in years so we decided to go. First thing when we walked in it smelled musty blahhh Ok we look around no one is in there. Ok maybe just not busy at that hour. After trying to get over the smell and not wanting to say anything to my family we order. Again not wanting to say anything to my family dinner comes out burned. My husband says looks a bit over done. But we ate it. Not thrilled and will not go back.

Another bad experience at the BEP. We told the hostess we wanted a table but she kept taking us to a booth. Finally she figured out the difference between a table and a booth. There were 4 of us but she only gave us 2 menus. Really! You can’t count to 4? Food was okay but bland. Service was once again very poor. No refills on tea or water. Last trip to BEP.

Ordered chicken fried steak with gravy. Chicken fried steak was bloody in the center. I cut around it and the sides of the chicken fried steak were tasty. There was also two pieces of gristle in the meat. There were two foreign objects I showed to the waitress in the gravy too. I couldn’t tell what it was. It was two black things that were soft enough to cut through but did not look like something that was edible. She agreed they looked strange and showed her manager. Nothing was said or done to make it better. Last time here for me.

Fantastic corn bread and rolls and butter. I ordered my usual chicken fried chicken with amazing onion rings and broccoli rice casserole. Great service, good food, great place for lunch no crowds and excellent quality and service

Great place! Ambiance was good, food was delicious and the server was polite. I ordered the fried green tomato BLT, it was amazing! Fresh ingredients and perfectly cooked and crafted. The bread they bring for an appetizer is fantastic, be careful not to fill up before you meal arrives! We had a great server, Talon, who was attentive and helpful with recommendations. Unfortunately, when we arrived so did many other parties right about the same time so the kitchen was a little backed up, but Talon was right on it, explaining what was going on and ensuring our drinks were full.

Breaded mushrooms are huge, and taste amazing. This place is never crowded, so you walk right in. Service is always friendly.

When we lived in the area the Black-eyed Pea restaurant was one of our favorites. It was only natural we would want to stop when driving back through. The freeway system has all changed and for a while I’m sure the restaurant struggled because of it. However, it’s open, the food is great and the service is top notch. If you’re hungry for good southern fare, try this place. They even have fried green tomatoes on the menu!

I hadn’t been to the Black Eyed Pea in a few years and I must say, I wasn’t blown away by anything. The service wasn’t bad but seeing as there were only a handful of people in the restaurant, he really had ample time to focus on quality. From memory, the food was significantly better in the past and the portions were much larger. I don’t mind paying but I expect what I pay for and the bang to hype ratio was way out of whack! It may be this particular location but the Black Eyed Pea is not on my list of «must go there» places when I’m looking for a good dining experience.

Oh boy, we’re going to the Black-eyed Pea for Friday night date night. This is truly what I was thinking as we were driving here. I’ve been a fan of the«Pea» since they opened in the area in the late 70’s. The food and service have always been great. That was then and this is now. The food for the most part is still good but the service, trying to find a family friendly word here, ummm STINKS. And to boot, the place was almost empty. I ordered the grilled pork chops, mashed potatoes, and red beans and rice. The pork chops were great, the potatoes were a little too runny but still tasted good, and the beans were WAYWAYWAY undercooked. I understand that the beans sometimes are not ready and that’s really no big deal. My problem comes when the waiter asked how everything was, I told him about the beans(very politely). With that he said he would tell the manager that he liked feedback from the customers. Then he walked off. My husband had the same issue with his beans along with a Chicken Fried Steak that had almost no meat just breading. When telling the waiter he just said that there’s 8 oz. of meat there. I sure wish we had a scale. I assumed he would offer another side or send the manager over but he just walked away. So, at this point, I’m just sitting there getting madder and madder. About 10 minutes later, he comes over and offers me another side if I would like one. I told him that 10 minutes ago I would have loved another side but it was a little too late now. I realize that sometimes meals are not great and that’s no problem. What I won’t put up with is bad service and from what I can tell bad management. It will be quite a while before we return and I will miss the«Pea».

I have to change my review on Black eyed pea. I don’t know what happen but the food quality went down. I ordered my chicken fried steak and it was bad. There was a very thin slice of meat in between the breading. I told the waiter they forgot the meat. He said that is 8 oz. of meat I do not think so. Plus the breading has changed it is harder and not flakey. Do not care for the taste. The red beans and rice was not cook long enough. Again told waiter he said he would tell the manager. If he told the manager I will never know because no one came out and talked to us. I have been going to Black-eyed Pea a long time. They need to improve the food quality if they ever want my business again. And the waiter needs to fix the problem with the food if he cannot he needs to get a Manager out there to help. Plus the Manager at nice restaurants usually walks around and talks with the costumes and make sure they are happy. So I have to down grade them 2 stars.

I’ve frequented the BEP locations for over three decades. Though they have grown and expanded, they consistently crank out fantastic, fast, fresh food at unbelievable prices. BEP beats those other diners(Denneys, IHop, etc) hands down. This location was FULL of blue-hairs on Sunday at noon. Go figure… it is Hurst, TX!!! Excellent, fast and friendly service.

I love black eyed pea, the waiters were friendly both times that I’ve gone, I am surprised I forgot to review. It is incredibly close to my school, which is amazing! I’ve been able to have a good meal with the food nice and hot like it should be. You cannot go wrong with the Sesame Ginger Glazed Salmon. Just a heads up, they are on the side road near the freeway, if you’re using your google maps on the phone to get to it, it’ll try to drive you into the apartments behind the restaurant. So look out for that.

Black-eyed Pea is a fine restaurant. You know exactly what you are going to get and it is consistently the same every time. It is not a placed you are going to be wow’d by but they have something for everyone and it is ok food. The servers don’t seem particularly excited to be there but they do an ok job. Really«Ok» is a good overall description of the restaurant.

I’ve been to the Black Eyed Pea several times so I can’t believe I have never reviewed it. My wife and I have probably eaten at this location around 20 times over the 3 – 4 years. We used to always ask for this server named Brandon who was always cool and he got to know us by name and knew what we wanted. I don’t think he works there anymore as we have not seen him the last 2 times we have been there. On to the food. You can’t go wrong with the Chicken Fried Steak. I get it with their Jalapeño Gravy with mashed potatoes and more jalapeño gravy. YUM! Always cooked to perfection. I also am partial to their meatloaf… which you can also get as a meatloaf sandwich if you ask nicely. Tender meat, great red sauce on top and plenty of flavor! Another can’t miss is their friend pickles. They are HUGE pickles and always come out crunchy and steaming hot. My wife always get their Turkey and raves over it. The only reason I don’t give this place 5 stars is the fact that when we have not had Brandon as a server… the service hasn’t been great. IN fact, about a year ago, we stopped in on a slow Wednesday night around 8pm… stood at the door for about 6 – 7 minutes and no one greeted us to seat us. So we walked back out. This place is never on our«OOOOOHLETSGOTHERE!!!» list… but every once in awhile we crave a good homestlye meal and the BEP always delivers.

Good simple southern style food, that’s what we wanted, and that’s what we got. I had been once before but years ago, and couldn’t remember if it was worth going again. So I wasn’t sure what we would get. Right away, the wait staff was friendly, they gave my husband plenty of time to study the menu, his usual thing. We ordered a couple of apps, the spinach and artichoke dip. It was a spicy spinach queso, topped with artichokes, Pico de Gallo and parmesan cheese, we got the chipotle tortillas ships to add an extra zing. It was delicious. We also ordered the fried guacamole, a Black-eyed Pea original! A fresh avocado filled with sour cream and Pico de Gallo, hand battered and fried to a crispy brown. It was very interesting textures and tasted good. I was impressed with them both! For my meal, I ordered the slow cooked pot roasted. It came with fresh mash and steamed veggies. It was soft, tender, and tasted good. The best part of it was soaking up the gravy with the fresh rolls they bring out, it was a good meal, the meal wasn’t rushed, they allowed us time to sit and enjoy the apps before rushing our meal, and they kept our tea glasses filled, everyone was friendly and I felt like they wanted us to enjoy our meal. We even got a coupon to use in the next 30days upon our return. If the opportunity comes up, we probably will!

Friendly waitresses but merely decent food. However there are some unusual dishes such as fried corn and fried pickles. For the healthy minded there are some choices but don’t expect to go low calorie at this country cooking eatery.
