Super 8’s seem to be hit or miss anymore and this one was a miss. Rates were high because I was in town for a college graduation and I could have spent the money much better elsewhere. Check in was tedious and unorganized. They had one person working the desk with a lobby full of people and the phone constantly ringing. So he would have to answer while you stand there. The room was a smoking room, so certain things are expected. However, at least one light bulb near the bed was burned out and if there was some magic trick to the air conditioner, I never found it. You’d turn it on and it would run for 20 minutes or so before shutting off completely, never to get cold again. The bed was weirdly made. All the requisite pieces were there, mattress pad, fitted sheet, top sheet, comforter, but instead of a normal configuration, everything was just laid on top. So when you pulled the covers back at midnight because you were tired and didn’t examine them, you ended up sleeping under a mattress pad and heavy, hot pile of everything. I also woke up with bug bites on my hands that I possibly were not there when I went to sleep. Bathroom was fine, appropriate for a low priced motel, microwave and refrigerator were untouched so no idea if they work. Wouldn’t have been a terrible room if they could make a bed and the AC worked, but in Texas, the latter is mandatory. Still I do appreciate Super 8 for still enabling my nicotine habit. However, I would not stay here again.

Not a bad place to stay for a night. It’s a budget hotel, which means everything is frill free. The rooms are big and clean, but they had a sort of 1980s Laura Ashley feel to them. Lots of dark colors which made the room really dark. The property was quiet, so I couldn’t complain. I had a king which also included a nice sitting area with a couch and work area. No pillow top beds or flat screen TVs here but there was free wi fi. The complimentary breakfast was also pretty basic – a few cereals, muffins, bagels, and the waffle maker. The hotel sits about a block off the interstate and about a mile from most chain restaurants in the Huntsville area. Recommended for a good, inexpensive budget motel.
