Birreria El Guero

Ok… if you are like me and like goat (one of the leanest meats) this place is heaven.
The service is friendly and they even give you complimentary «consume» or soup.
It’s a simple Mexican restaurant. Nothing fancy here. Just good food and goat options.
I usually just have the goat «Birria» tacos but definitely going to try Birria Seca next time.

I love the birria it’s so DELICIOUS .Also they have a lonchera truck by slauson and Holmes!!! The tortillas are made in mano! .

Really great tacos the tortillas hand made almost like being in mexico. Just a bit pricey and the tacos a little small. I can tank down 9 tacos 2 – 3 bites never enough lol but i love this place and their taste is worth the visit.

You know how some reviews are low or high because of exceptionally bad or good experiences? This is the former.
I arrived here wanting a quick lunch. I saw that most of the meats were already prepared and only a few people ahead of me. And I love a good street style taco too, so I said, why not?
Here’s why not: everything is, in a word, oversalted. From the free soup (which is nice, but again, oversalted) to the tortillas (which are, quite pleasantly, handmade), everything has had about three extra dashes of salt.
I can understand some extra salt. I love salty foods, but there’s more. The salsas, onions, cilantros and lives are held in the open. Uncovered. Unchilled. Unsanitary. I took a risk using them having seen others handle them. No public hand washing facilities, soooo… Yeah. I wouldn’t have minded if the salsas were exceptionally good but they were, at best average. At worst, they weren’t even available– three out of the four varieties were out and no one appeared to refill them at all. One worker opened the top and used the nozzle to try to scoop some out. Yuck!
But the worst part of the experience was the service. If you’re Latino, add a star to the review, because you’re going to get preferred service and heaps of extra food. If you aren’t, you’ll literally get served last. My order wasn’t ready until after everyone else’s, and the cashier had to tell the staff to make it. If you’re thinking that I ordered something custom, I didnt– two identical orders were filled before mine, and served to people who ordered after me. No apologies, no explanations. Worst of all, the amount of meat in my taco was easily HALF of what was in other tacos– an ounce, AT BEST.
Finally the big board menu prices are inaccurate, or I was charged twice. The board says tacos are $ 1.25 plus tax, but I was charged $ 1.38, with added tax on top of that. So… Yeah.
So yeah. If you don’t mind discrimination, unsanitary conditions (even for someone who doesn’t mind most Chinatowns), oversalted food and paltry servings, not to mention shady pricing, go right ahead.

I really enjoyed there cabeza, and al pastor tacos. I tried there birria soup and it is so good, a little salty, and the meat is so tender. The tortillas are freshly made, and so good in the soup.

As Mexican as it gets! I would suggest to arrive early and grab a bowl of birria or some tacos de birria, if that is what you prefer. Next to the counter there are different chili sauces, cut lemons, and onion with cilantro to add to your taste. The birria is the freshest in the morning when it is just cooked and hot. The meat was very tender, and if you get the bowl it comes with bone-​in. I didn’t think it was gamey, but the consommé was a little thick from the animal fat. It is an acquired taste. Nevertheless, it was good and filling. The kicker was the tortillas made by hand. Roll them up and dip into the consommé. Tasty! They also have aguas frescas already bottled and other bottled drinks. I could tell that this establishment prides themselves on their cooking cause they asked us how we liked it. The food is fairly priced compared to other establishments.
I would definitely return. Next time I will try the tacos!
