Captain Doug is awesome– Clean well maintained Catalina 36 proved comfortable for 6 for sunset cruise. Long Beach has great afternoon breeze and Doug took advantage of it– smooth, swift sailing in Long Beach Harbor. Up close and personal with the Queen Mary and Spruce Goose, and some Sea Lions. Would do it again in a heartbeat – Doug is super nice guy and loves what he does!

We had a chance to take a charter with Captain Doug — had a great time! The weather was perfect (which I not sure how much was up to him. lol) but the cruise was wonderful, the yacht was well kept and nice looking. Captain Doug was very knowledgable and entertaining. Terrific way to spend and afternoon —

What a great experience! We booked a day or two after we purchased through living social and we got a great day and time. Captain Doug is just a nice guy with a Mom/​Pop type business that loves what he does for a living. We enjoyed our trip so much that we are booking for a weekend trip to Catalina with Captain Doug. Don’t feel like one bad review should be enough to turn you away from this great experience.

Despite the fact that I was on the verge of being full out sea sick, this was a great experience. In their defense, I should have taken Dramamine before boarding. I just didn’t have any time that day to go get some. But even for someone like me who gets all kinds of motion sickness, as long as I was on the deck and not in the cabin, I was alright. We had lots of fun checking out oil islands, seeing sea lions being their lazy selves, hearing Turns, which are supposed to be some protected birds, and learning all kinds of miscellaneous facts. We also got to see the queen Mary and captain Doug told us all kinds of stories to entertain us throughout the ride.
Overall super fun and I would highly recommend doing something like this at least once! Just gotta remember to make time to find that Dramamine next time…

I bought a deal from living social for a boat charter. A week or two after purchasing, I tried to schedule a time for my boyfriend’s birthday. I called the number many times and left messages, and I never got any response. Finally, after calling repetitively, Captain Doug answered. He said he was just about to go out on a sail, but if I could email him the details of when I would like to schedule a date, he would get back to me.
At first, he responded quickly. I asked for two separate weekends. Both were booked. I understand that many deals were bought, so maybe two months notice wasn’t enough to find a space. He replied that he would like me to suggest more dates. I said any weekend date around that time would be great. He emailed back to say his Saturdays and Sundays were all full. He then suggested the actual birthdate, which lands on a Wednesday. However, I had already laid out the fact that only a weekend would be possible. There are not many people who can get out of work soon enough to make a 5:15pm departure time from the bay.
I then asked what his next available Saturday was. I got no response. A few days later, I decided to email again. I inquired if there were ANY available weekend dates for the remainder of the year (sans capital letters). It has been a week, and there has been no response. Calling has also proven unsuccessful.
Living social was nice enough to provide me with a refund of the deal. I am much appreciative.
I understand that people get busy, but letting a week go by without any type of response is just negligent and bad business. Furthermore, if the deal expires in one year, and every single weekend is booked between now and then, that’s just dumb and lame. And even if that’s the case, it would be nice to have a confirmation of that fact, by email or phone.
I was really looking forward to the sail and making the birthday (or any other day/​event, since the month was booked) special and fun. What a let down…
