I went here on Sunday as I was looking to move a little further out of Houston since I am working remotely 4 days a week. This place seems nice. Unfortunately, whether due to inexperience or other nefarious reasons, I was mislead into thinking the apartment I was renting was on the ground floor. Since the tenants are still living in the unit, I couldn’t see it but was told it was ground floor. The apartment complex wouldn’t take a check or credit card but told me I could get a Money Order from Kroger… and oh yeah, if you donate a toy to Toys for Tots, the deposit was reduced. So… I hauled my happy arse down to Kroger, got the Money Orders(yes, two because the apartment wanted separate deposit and separate admin/app fees) and the toy and headed back to The Verandah. The next day, I got a call: Congratulations, you’ve been approved… but«our bad, the unit is actually on the THIRD floor.» The knitwit told me I had to make a decision by COB that day…4 hours notice. I was NOT happy and spoke to the Leasing Manager who gave me until COB the next day to decide. The more I thought about it, the more unhappy I became. I called the next day to say«Thanks, but no thanks!» They agreed to give me back my deposit, admin and application fees(and I wanted the toy back to donate to another Toys for Tots campaign because it ‘smelled’ like a bait and switch to pad their donations). I received all the above today. They sent me back the Money Orders rather than write me a check! Fortunately, I bank with Frost Bank and they have customer service down to a «t». Typically, I would have had to haul my now unhappy arse back to the Kroger in Humble to get my money back. However, Frost(being the customer service experts that I have come to know and love), has agreed to allow me to fill out a form and they’ll re-deposit the funds back into my checking account. Incidently, I found another apartment a couple blocks away from The Verandah… and directly ON Lake Houston. Not only was the rent less for the same sized unit, but they actually took my personal check for the deposit and fees. PLUS, they took me directly to the ACTUAL unit and didn’t mislead me with bait and switch. Sorry the first review for this place is a negative one… but they need to train their staff better if they want better reviews.
