My family has been taking annual canoeing trips down the Pigeon River via Trading Post Canoeing and Camping in Mongo for over a decade. Best part of the trip? Probably splashing around in the cool spring water when it’s hot out. Second best part? Ice Cream in Howe afterwards, of course! A mere 15 minute drive from the Trading Post, Happiness Is Ice Cream has become an appreciated addition to the annual trip. They are always very friendly and generous with their scoop sizes. They have a good selection of cones, shakes, and sundaes(and root beer floats!). We love coming here and definitely think it’s worth checking out if you’re in the area.

This store believes in two things… ice cream and happiness. Great service, great ice cream been coming here 20 yrs.

Nice, clean tiny little gem hidden away in downtown Howe. Lots tasty of ice cream for just a couple of bucks. The ladies working the counter were friendly and helpful. Love the choice of being able to sit outside in the great weather at a homey picnic table, or inside if there’s room. I go here whenever I’m in town, have for years, and have yet to be disappointed in the staff, service, or ice cream!

Great little ice cream shop! We passed through on our way from Lake James to Chicago. I got two scoops of Chocolate Peanut Butter in a waffle cone for a few bucks but I felt like I ate a gallon of ice cream! Very generous portions!
