Venus Hair

I wanted a new look for the New Year. I called and discussed what I was thinking about with Susan Venus and a few days later she delivered what I wanted and more. I went from a dark solid red to red with glorius blonde streaks — it was better than what I had hoped for. The look has taken years off my appearance, I am so pleased. So with my new color and cut I am looking forward to a fun and glamorous 2016.

I have been going to Becky at Venus Hair for five years now, and I wouldn’t go anywhere else. I love everything about it – the art-​car-​esque décor that is very Houston, the friendly and warm stylists, and most importantly, the quality of their work. I have to color my hair frequently because I went prematurely gray/​white and am not ready to be naturally so at a young age, and Becky always does a beautiful job with my color and cut. I feel welcome and comfortable and enjoy overhearing the conversations and seeing the people who stop in and visit. The salon is a Heights institution and everyone knows Ms. Venus (and everyone on staff). It’s a great place – check it out!

Since moving back to the Houston Heights in 2011, I’ve always had my hair cut with Becky. She’s kind, professional and always does her best to squeeze clients in where she can. Venus Hair, like the Heights, has tons of personality. I’ve never had a bad hair cut here and always look forward to visiting the shop.

This is an amazing, cool, funky (in the best sense), hair salon. Susan Venus is incredible and I get the best haircut here ever! I’ll be a forever customer.

No clue why I haven’t reviewed yet. Been going to Becky for about 5 years now since moving from LA and I won’t let anyone else near my hair. It was so damaged from years of swimming and she’s been able to keep me styled up throughout the changes my hair has gone through while getting healthy again. Love that they dry cut so the cut works with hair in it’s «normal» state, not wet. Funky spot with funky staff and amazing customer service and cuts. Call ahead and make an appointment because they do get busy.

Absolutely love my red hair! It’s amazing and so manageable! Definitely can’t wait for my next touch up, thanks so much Susan Venus! You did such a good job, can’t wait to come back and see you when is time for my touch up!

I’ve been going to Venus FOREVER and there is one huge reason why. She is the absolute best at color and a whiz with the scissors. She amazes me every time with her magic wand. Everyone in the shop is great, and Venus is the absolute best in town. As a bonus, she’s got an amazing spot on 19^th St stuffed with great people, things to see, plus, an art car!
If you care about your hair, you must visit Venus!!!

I went back to Venus and I regret it. I will admit it’s partly my fault but only because I stuck around even though she was behind in appointments. When I sat down to say what I wanted she walked away from me three times, clearly not listening. I even tried showing her pictures of the hair she gave me last time, but she didn’t take the time to look.
What happened next was a rushed job and the worst haircut. She doesn’t know me and was more worried about the customer after me waiting.
I appreciate a long time client being important, but I was a potential long time client.
Thank God for bobby pins and ponytails.

Venus Hair is the best. Went in for a corrective color, came out looking completely natural and amazing. Susan Venus did my hair herself, and she is a very cool lady. We both love cats! My hair was a horrible copper, and I wanted a natural look with blonde highlights. Susan didn’t flinch, and she didn’t cut the job short. She maintained tiny partitions between the highlights and lowlights all the way through, what a perfectionist! In the end it’s a fantastic look with a thousand highlights lighting it up and peeking out from even the lowest layers. She’s an artist, one of a kind in Houston. Very relaxed atmosphere at the salon. She has surrounded herself with nice, pleasant people to work with. Both the lady working the next chair, whose name I can’t remember, and Elliot were very kind and seemed very knowledgeable. Loved it, and I love my hair now!

OMG! I really need to give a review for this place! I Moved to Houston 5 months ago with my famiy with no IDEA which salon to go to! thanks to Unilocal I found Venus Hair so here we go:
About the place: WHAT A GREAT unique salon!!! I felt so comfortable in there! Such a positive and friendly environment!
About the service & hair: Amazing! Becky did my hair, she was friendly and honest, I had black! Black black black colored hair! Year after year coloring it black! I wanted bleach out completely to put red! She advised me not to do it cause it would damage my hair so much and we would have to say all day there! She came up with a great idea instead: large red strips! I took her advice and I loved the results!!! Super Recommend and I will definitely be back!

Very warm, charming environment. Elliott did my son’s hair and he was fantastic the best hair but I’ve ever seen my son have! A million thanks for the warmth and laughter both Venus and Elliott showed personally and professionally.

Went to have my hair styled by Elliott Martin today. The Venus Hair salon is an awesome place to visit and see first hand. The atmosphere is welcoming and entertaining all at the same time. Elliot has done my hair for over 12 years and has moved several times to different hair salons. He now has found his home… the place he’s always wanted to work. A great experience today… and if you are interested in learning what the term «grey blending» means, give Elliott a call.

Oh yeah… this is one cool spot. The salon itself is way funky which makes the charm outstanding.
Becky cut my hair. I have never had a dry cut before. She did a great job. She listened attentively to what I wanted – keep the length but I am kinda bored and I do not plan on spending a lot of time styling it in the morning before work. Really – who wants to commit to spending tons of time in front of the mirror trying to get things just right first thing in the morning? Not this gal.
She framed my face and told me to keep the color I am using cause it looks good on me. Total bonus points. So many places would try to talk you into all sorts of things and not pay attention to you as a person much less what you want. She did.
I will certainly be going back and recommending it to anyone looking for a salon. I am thrilled with my cut and looking forward to going back – especially if I decide you know I think I want some violet streaks or something kinda funky with the whole hair color thing.

Excellent work by Neil! He is an extremely gifted stylist and has 20 plus years of expertise. The entire team is wonderful and don’t let the laid back and eclectic décor fool you– these are some of the most talented in Houston.

I decided to try a new salon so I went fairly close to me and called to make an appointment the same day, I ended up getting an appointment with Margaret Day. I came in and the atmosphere was awesome, the ladies there greeted me and made me feel instantly welcome. Margaret was so nice and did an amazing job cutting my hair and giving me exactly what I asked for. I could not be happier and can’t wait to go back! It is truly a one of a kind, beautiful salon. I would recommend this salon to anyone!

I saw Neil and he was extremely thorough with me. I wasn’t exactly sure what I wanted, and he made me feel like I was in great hands. This guy is a color genius. He stayed almost 3 hours past closing time with me. He even called a week or two later to follow up and make sure I was happy with everything. The cut is super cute too.
I will definitely be coming back here. Be prepared to pay though. If you want a serious professional to treat your precious locks, the money is worth it to me.
The shop is super laid back and dog friendly!

I have been going to Venus since I was a baby when my grandmother would take me. She has personally cut my hair my entire life and will continue for the foreseeable future. I would recommend her to any one and the entire staff here is friendly as can be. I also recommend getting your hair shampooed and washed as its extremely therapeutic!

I’ve only been once, but it was the most amazing haircut of my life. I had an appointment but still had to wait about 20 minutes. Becky did my hair, and she obviously knew exactly what she was doing. I asked her for a relatively complicated yet still similar to what I already had cut and she completely delivered. I couldn’t be happier. I will definitely return! Maybe even for hi-​lights next time.
The shop is also super cute!

I first came here a few months back to get my super long, boring hair chopped to chin length – wasn’t quite ready to commit to the pixie cut I so desperately wanted, so I figured going shorter would be a good start. The décor of this place threw me off a little. I’m an accountant at a pretty conservative firm, so when I saw the plastic heads with brightly colored, crazy wigs cramming the space, I thought I might have made a mistake. I had visions of walking out of there with a purple and gold asymmetrical cut and trying to explain to my boss how it happened. But I’m glad I stayed because Becky gave me the cute, low-​maintenance cut that I wanted (with no purple).
Shortly thereafter, on a family vacation overseas, I threw caution to the wind and got the pixie cut I’d been dreaming about. I was SO happy with that decision… until the high wore off and it occurred to me that I still had to find someone back home in Houston to maintain it for me. (Shoulda thought that one through a little more carefully.) It’s not the kind of style that can be thrown up into a ponytail and hidden if it gets screwed up, so I was a little nervous about finding someone who would do a good job without making me look like a dude.
I needn’t have worried — called to make an appointment with Becky again, who assured me that she enjoyed doing pixie cuts and, in fact, had one herself for many years. She gave me the cutest little pixie that I like even better than the original! Before I could describe to her the details I wanted, she had kind of already stolen the words out of my mouth. It’s only been a day since I got the haircut, but already I’ve received a few compliments on it. I’ve never had *awesome* hair before, but thanks to Becky, I do now :) The atmosphere in here is pretty laid back, which is also nice. Plus they only charge $ 40, which is a great deal for the quality of cut you get.

Recently I was at the First Saturday Arts Market on W 19^th and after stopping by the booths I was in need for a haircut. Trusty Unilocal app, said there was a hair salon just a few blocks over. It was a beautiful day so I decided for a quick stroll. A few blocks down and I find Venus hair! I saw the Unilocal sticker on the door and I was sold. I walked in and they asked if I had an appointment. After I said no, they paused and said hey we can squeeze you in!
I was really lucky. They seem to be always packed, but I just need a quick cut. The staff here is very skilled and super nice. I got one of my best haircuts, I mean my hair is simple but sometimes people still manage to screw it up, either too short or leaving strands uncut.
If I’m in the area again I will be stopping by, this time I’ll make sure to schedule ahead of time though.
