So sad that this location closed, they had the best breakfast tacos in town!

Awesome, CHEAP, and fast! Don’t expect anything fancy. Lots of menu choices and great happy hour specials.

The customer service was terrible. Both me and my fiancé got sick on the meal. I do not recommend eating here. The food is horrible and our waitress was very rude. The chips were dry. The queso tasted like theater cheese. The salsa wasn’t even spicy. I specifically asked for NOCILANTRO in the guacamole and they put it in there anyway. If I were allergic this would be a disaster. The napkins didn’t have knifes. This is beyond terrible. I WILLNOTEVERRETURNTOTHISRESTAURANT!

This is an old school super cheap absolutely delicious Mexican diner where you can order up some pancakes and a plate of migas, or whatever your hungover stomach craves. For those of you who grew up with Mexican food as a primary part of your dit, this place is pure comfort.

very good Jalisco Omlette. Fresh, good atmosphere, nice services. This place is great in the mornings. I bet the same in the evenings as well.

This place wasn’t bad. It is very close to my house and the prices are very reasonable. It is about what I would expect from a hole in the wall Mexican place. I had the tree tacos with chicken, which was ok. My husband had the burrito with beef, and it was super tasty. The chips and salsa are yummy too. And we received excellent service.

Canned queso and awful hot salsa comes with non fresh chips for the worst free Mexican appetizer combo you could ask for. Margaritas were bad. Food is overall smeh. The one tasty thing I ate was a beef stew on the Texas plate that reminded me of a venison stew my grandfather makes. I don’t know how this place has a 3.5 star review. This is what you get when you roll the dice on a hole in the wall and get snake eyes.

Most disappointing Mexican restaurant to base off ‘high’ reviews. The ‘salsa’ brought to the table was absolutely bland and watered down and the ‘queso’ brought alongside it is clearly from a can! The décor as well is run down, cheese enchiladas are tortillas smothered in grease and TOO much cheese where it becomes in edible and distasteful. Both my friend and I got diarrhea from this place. Not authentic just lazy cooking.

What a run-down rathole of a place. I guess they don’t believe in even the least expensive renovations or upgrades for this third-world-looking horror. Moldy leak-stained ceiling tiles, a dust-caked box fan, tacky, ancient, laminate furniture. The walls, ceiling and floors seemed to be crumbling in disrepair. Unilocalers who’re happy about the«free queso» that comes«automatically» must have no taste: it’s canned concession stand nacho cheese and nasty. My meal was greasy, bland, and inedible. I can’t tell you what I ordered because I’ve blocked it out, repressed the traumatic memory. This was the worst Mexican food I’ve ever eaten… apart from a restaurant in VERMONT of all places that I tried long ago and it served ketchup as salsa. Any Mexican joint in Houston beats this dump!

Was in the area and wanted Mexican food, decided to stop in. The outside is a little sketch, but those are the best places right? I sat down, the lady shouted at me from the counter to take my order across the restaurant. Not that they were that short staffed but rather two other girls were busy cleaning up. I ordered a milenesa torta and one taco de barbacoa. Salsa and«queso» were brought to my table… I was super excited about the queso but that was shortly lived due to the fact it was clearly the cheap liquid cheese that comes in a can :(Torta and taco were subpar, nothing note worthy. Frankly I wouldn’t come here again.

Authentic Mexican food. Was the only Asian-American in the restaurant, surrounded by other Spanish families. Menu was in Spanish and English. Try their combo plates. Do order one of their daily Aqua Frescas as flavors vary but made fresh daily! Prices are reasonable and really not that much different from other Mexican restaurants ~$ 8 – 15 avg. depending on the plates Serving sizes are decent, not too big, not too small. Friendly staff but somewhat slow but acceptable.

Very rarely do I change my mind but I have been here several times now and with some convincing of fellow Unilocaler Jay K. I now am a fan. Reasons: 1. You can order egg whites(yay) 2. You can put avocado on your taco(Delish) 3. You get chips, salsa and queso when you sit down! 4. Freshly squeezed oj?! Yiyah! This is a true hole in the wall but it works. Waitresses are friendly and you get a Big Bang for your buck.

This is authentic Mexican food. That’s it. When you sit down they bring you chips, salsa and QUESO. Yes, they bring you free queso, and I think that is awesome. I wish more places did that. In fact everywhere I sit down I want to be brought free queso. I want it at the library, hell I want it on airplanes. That would totally be better than a lame little bag of peanuts.(No offense to the peanuts, I like them too). I always get some sort of combination plate, usually involving tacos al carbon. These grilled beef tacos are delicious, and I do not know why anyone would order ground beef tacos when these tasty treats are available.(No offense to ground beef tacos, I enjoy a good ground beef taco from time to time). Often times you can tell how good a Mexican restaurant is by the clientele. If there aren’t any Mexicans in there, you should probably steer clear. At Taqueria Los Charos I am usually the only non-Hispanic in the place. So I believe this shows that my Mexican food gauge does not need to be recalibrated. This place has delicious food on the cheap. Check it out. Oh, and did I mention free queso?

A neighborhood taqueria that is serving up delicious Mexican food at a more than reasonable cost. I generally judge the quality of an ethnic restaurants food by the clientele that are eating inside of it. I know that when I eat in a lot of Mexican restaurants in town that people deem good I often never see any Mexicans eating inside of it. This makes me wonder how true to its roots the food is. This is not the case with Taqueria Los Charros. Every time I have been there I am one of the only non-hispanics in the place this reinforces my belief that this is good food and when I get the bill it reinforces my belief that it is good Mexican food at a great price! I am a lover of queso and I love that they automatically bring it to your table when they drop off your chips and salsa. They also have a variety of agua frescas that are fruity and frothy deliciousness!

The staff seem nice and friendly. The salsa and cheese brought out first is NOTGOOD. The margaritas on the rocks are NOTGOOD. The FOODISGOOD but NOT the best I’ve had or even close. YES the building is ran down outside and inside.

Why isn’t this place crowded all the time? I was drawn in initially by the free queso. That was only so-so, your standard ball park queso. But I was glad they got me in. The friend loved his breakfast tacos, stating that the meat was tasty and the potatoes were right. I fell in love with the watermelon aguas frecas(it’s the little things.) There is never any wait and it is so cheap!!!

There’s probably a taqueria to every ten people in Houston. There are THAT many and while I haven’t been to all of them so far this is my favorite. Surprisingly service is great here. On to the food! Taco-wise the al pastor takes the cake. The meat is tender, very flavorful and they’re not skimpy with it either. Two tacos are more than enough(for me) to make a meal. Also if you dine in queso, salsa, and chips are included. The salsa definitely has some kick to it and I like to use on tacos or whatever else I want to top it on. The beef fajita and lengua(tongue lol) tacos are solid as well. Their menu is pretty large but everything I’ve tried so far has been good. Just don’t come here thinking it’s a Pappasitos or Lupe Torilla and everything will be alright. Different cuts of meat are used in the dishes like shank in the beef soup and the lengua tacos. So feel free to try out new things because the low prices make it easy to over order!

I love this place! The service, location, and most importantly the food is delicioso. I am a huge critic of breakfast tacos and this place makes the heartiest and tastiest taco north of the rio grande! Bonus — the orange juice is hand squeezed and only prepared when you order it!

For authentic«street tacos», this is as good as it gets. The beef fajita on corn tortillas are easily my favorite, but they are all good. At $ 1.50 per taco, its hard to find anything that tastes better for the price. They also give complimentary chips, salsa, and queso if you eat there. First place I’ve ever been to that offers free queso.

On the hunt of the elusive great little taco joint, I stopped into the crowded, awkward parking lot of this modest, roadside establishment for some breakfast taco evaluation. The interior is cheery and clean, with tiled floors, laminate-topped tables, yellow painted walls with cheap tourista blankets in jarringly uncoordinating colors accenting the burglar-barred windows – muy tipico. There’s a giant photo mural on the ceiling of a scrawny dark-eyed señorita wearing a slutty half shirt which proclaims«No es Tex-Mex, es Mex-Tex.» If only that were true… To be sure, though, I was amused that they charge different prices for their tacos based on whether you request tortillas de Harina o Maiz. Cuidado, Gringos, your beloved flour tortillas rate a 15-cent up-charge! As to the comida itself, I would have to say it’s hit or miss. Chorizo con huevo: near miss; great chorizo to huevo ratio, but the chorizo is surprisingly devoid of sabor. Carne guisada: clear miss; looks to be made with tomato soup – it is to real carne guisada what chicken tikka masala is to real Indian cuisine – sad. «Fajitas» de camaron: hit; generous stuffing of tiny, not overcooked grilled shrimp – Makes you wish it were served with a slice of lime or that the house salsa was better. Pastor: direct hit; best thing on the menu– great spice, caramelized cebollos, no other discernible vegetation(no traditional piña); the uninspired salsa complements and doesn’t mask the great taste. This just may be my new favorite pastor taco in Houston. Fajita: hit; tender and juicy yet still crunchy with caramelization; subtle spice, a little heavy on the salt, but very satisfying. I’m giving this place three stars, mostly on the strength of the pastor. If it was just a pastor taco stand, I’d rate it a five. El Rauncho Grande.
