Spanky’s

Came in for the First time with my wife. We ordered chicken fingers and breadsticks as appetizers. The server, Katherine, let us know the special for Wednesday which was a large one topping pizza for $ 10.99. They accidentally brought the pizza out first before the appetizers but Katherine kindly apologized and she even sent the manager, Steve, to talk to us. Steve handled it very well and apologized. He even brought out the stuff to go and didn’t charge us without me asking for it. The pizza was GREAT!!! In all honesty I was kinda glad we didn’t get the appetizers because the pizza was really BIG and filled me and my wife up great. Will be coming back!!!

When I was a kid, my parents used to bring my brother and I here on a regular basis mostly Sunday afternoons after church. I have the fondest memories of eating here with my family not just because we had a silly nickname for the place (Spank Me’s!), but also because I remember how fantastic the food was.
I probably honestly haven’t been here in 20 years and I had a friend invite me to dinner the other day and brought up Spanky’s as an option. I immediately jumped at the chance, as I have been wanting to go back ever since they rebuilt the restaurant after the old one burned down. When we arrived we had to park in the old parking lot because there were so many cars. It was Wednesday night and we could not figure out what was going on. When we walked in we thought we would have to wait but we got a table right away and realized that it was high school graduation which is why there were so many people there. Once we sat down I didn’t even look at the menu I was so hungry I had already gone online and decided what I wanted. My friend took a few minutes to decide and then we sat there for a good five minutes before anybody came to our table. I’m not sure if the girl that came to our table was supposed to be our waitress or not (she made it seem like someone else was supposed to pick up the table) but once she greeted us and took our order she did a decent job.
We ordered the Super Duper with a few modifications, and they got all of them right. When the pizza hit the table and I started to eat it I was hit with the realization that it tasted just as good as it did 20 years ago. Now that’s saying a lot considering that most restaurants find success expand quickly and then start to scrimp on Quality to the detriment of the customers and eventually the business. That is not the case with this pizza place. I can hardly believe that I haven’t been back here sooner. Everything was absolutely delicious the ice tea was perfect it was a fantastic meal the only reason I didn’t give it five stars was because the service was a little bit slow but that could’ve been a direct correlation to the amount of people that were in there after graduation and maybe the restaurant wasn’t prepared for that kind of rush on Wednesday night.
By the way they do a special on Wednesday night that I believe is 10.99 for a large one topping pizza. That’s a great deal especially considering how fantastic their pizza is. I love this place and I will definitely not wait 20 more years to come back!

This is some good pizza. The thin crust taste like what Pizza Hut once did before they got cheap and started using imitation cheese and cheap ingredients. The scene inside is always lively and you can expect a wait. I usually just get it to-​go when im on this side of town.

There pizza is little on the expensive side and isn’t that great. The Alfredo pasta was disgusting. I did however like the spaghetti with meatballs. It hardly comes with sauce tho. And to get some extra sauce it’s a dollar. This place is a joke! Really don’t see myself driving out of my way to come here.

Update: Came here again and ordered the fried pickles and you get such a large portion for the price! Also ordered a 10″ Hawaiian New York Style and it was pretty delicious! Crust was crispy and soft — a little on the bland side — but the toppings was cheesy and deliciously flavored. A change from the margherita pizza from last time that was too bland. And service was great.

Tasted like margarita mix and like they forgot the tequila! Except my friend’s lime margarita was super stiff. Like they out all the alcohol in one drink and forgot the alcohol in the other. The fried pickles were too salty. My pizza. The 10″ (small) New York crust with half Hawaiian and half margherita was lacking sodium and flavor. It’s like they forgot the seasoning! Especially on the margherita with fresh garlic! It was so bland even with lots of Parmesan and red chili flakes. The Hawaiian was slightly better with loads of ham and pineapples. This place lacks flavor in toppings but wins in the crust department. The New York crust was soft and crispy on the edges — cooked perfectly. I tried my friend’s pepperoni pizza and you can’t go wrong with the normal pepperoni or Italian sausage. It has enough flavor in the meat to season the pie. Wished the toppings on mine were better because it would’ve been an amazing pizza. They also have the Wednesday night special of a large 1 topping pizza for $ 10.99. And this pie is large! You can share between 3 – 4 people if you each get 2 – 3 slices! The small size normally is about $ 10 and it was a good size for 1. I believe the normal large is $ 19. The pastas are $ 9 – 10 a dish. Decent prices for pretty good quality eats!

The service was great and the food was really good. It wasnt the best I have ever had, but better than most!

I’m a fan of spankys and it’s a good value entrees are not that expensive and the wings are good. ST Arnold’s lawnmower on tap and kids love the pizza and so do I only downfall can be average waiters but they failed to bring my wife’s lasagna so they made it up by giving us the lasagna on the house keep up the great food spankys !!!

My hubs has been here a few times before they moved. He has raved about it and finally took me here.
The service was great and the waitress was friendly and helpful. She kept our drinks filled and checked on us.
We ordered the hot wings and 2 lunch personal pizzas.
The wings were cooked well, crispy, and plenty of sauce.
I love a thin crust pizza and they serve theirs on one pizza pan and thin and crispy. I had pepperoni and jalapeños. Delicious crust and they don’t skimp on the toppings.
My husband got a sausage pizza and it was as good as he remembered.
If we’re in the area again we will definitely stop by.

The service was pretty good but the food is a different story. I made the mistake of ordering the chicken Parmesan. It was just cut up pieces of chicken on pasta. Truly bizarre. The pasta was like chef boyardee or something. There are way better Italian food places in Houston. Maybe their other stuff if good. I’m not going back.

Been to the old spankys a few years back but haven’t been since they opened the new location. Very impressed! Our server, Danelle was SO friendly and her recommendations for the food were ON POINT. A big smile like hers makes restaurant experiences the best. It lets you know they love their job and so should we. And we do. We LOVE spankys. Their pizza is delish and their lasagna and wings were brought out hot, fresh, and so good. Definitely will be going back more often

I’m not a pizza lover, my husband is, so I’m picky when it comes to pizza. But I do love pizza from Spanky’s!
Different servers in the evening so I prefer to go early. But the pizza is always good.
Fresh.
They messed up my order once and after I showed them I felt it was burnt they made me a fresh one. Other than that all has been well, we’ve dined in and had take out a few times.

This is my favorite place to come for pizza, nothing else compares to this place! The service is always amazing. Make sure you ask for Letty!

Tonight was the worst «pizza» I’ve had at spankys. When it came out the cheese which is my favorite ingredient on a pizza, looked like hash browns on to of my «pizza». What I mean is the cheese looked like a low grade grocery store cheese that they couldn’t get to melt down. And when we asked about the said cheese we were told they had run out of cheese and had to go to the grocery store to by there supply. Food in a restaurant should be consistent…

The reason I’m giving 1 star is for the service. They have a lot of older women who have been there for decades. It’s really mind-​boggling how they can get away with such careless and lackluster service. My waitress, Rachel, brought out the wrong appetizer. After pointing this out she insisted it was what I asked for. We then proceeded throughout the meal with close to no drink refills. We also had to wait for 10 minutes after asking for a box and the check, mind you it was the SECOND time we had done so. The table next to us was seated after us, and left before us! Will be ordering to go from now on.

Pizza is fantastic. It taste homemade and not commercial at all. Ingredients are fresh and the variety of pizzas they offer is great. No doubt, a great place to try if you’re in the area…

Found Spanky’s on a whim driving down the highway. Wow! The Pizza is so delicious and what a treat it was for us. Our server, Margarita, was wonderful. She was so attentive and eager to make our first visit an experience to remember. And that she did!!! The atmosphere is lively and upbeat. The pizza was out promptly fresh and hot. We both had 10inch pizzas with leftovers for the next day. Thanks Spanky’s! We will be back soon.

Tbh domino’s pizza taste better. Pizza is over priced and it’s not all that great. Workers are immature. I’ve been here about 4 times. Even the old location. same all 4 times. wasn’t my choice to come either.

Wonderful food and a very casual place! Lots of large screen TV’s mostly playing sports, fully stocked bar, and a large variety of menu items! My favorite is the deep dish pizza but the burgers, sandwiches, and salads are great as well! Waite staff is very friendly!

Seeing all the positive reviews about this place, I had to check this place out. Growing up, I passed it up plenty of times, but never checked it out. The new building is big and spacious. I came at lunch to take advantage of the 8 inch pizza deal for less than 7 bucks! Now that’s a deal! The place was packed and we all know that’s usually a good sign.
We were waited on right away. We barely had time to look at the menu, but ordering a 3 topping pizza isn’t that hard. I ordered mine with pepperoni, Italian sausage, and mushrooms. They do charge extra for premium toppings like meatballs and chicken and some other items. You can add a side salad for about 3 bucks more. We ordered and our pizzas were out pretty quick, piping hot. It looked so good, I took a bite without thinking about the temp. Big mistake! It might have affected my taste buds, but I still enjoyed it with the little bit I could taste. It was thin and crispy, with lots of cheese, and they didn’t skimp on the toppings.
I’ll definitely be back to try out some of their other dishes. Though it’s not ranked on the top of my favorite pizza list, it is pretty high up there!

Second time here and didn’t disappoint! We had the pizza and wings first time here and they were delicious and not badly priced at all. Second time I had the spaghetti and meatballs and I have to say the meatballs are amazing!

Spanky’s Pizza is the very Best Pizza and the Staff is extra friendly and fun too! Dee Dee was our super waitress tonight and we luv luv luv Ms. Tabby… fun fun fun for all ages! Update:

This was my first time coming to Spanky’s. I’ve always passed by it on the highway. My friend and I wanted to eat somewhere good so she suggested Spanky’s pizza. I got to the restaurant already ready to chow down, so I come to Unilocal to look at the pics just to see what other people have chosen. Well my eyes were bigger than my stomach lol… I end up getting the American skinz, wings (they only have one flavor) and meat lovers small deep dish pizza. Everything I had was extremely tasty and very generous portions. I will definitely come back and bring others who haven’t tried this delicious food.

Great family place. Wings are excellent. Margaritas are great. Pizza is ok. It’s loud and service is ok. New location is not as homey as before.
Second visit… seated quickly. Food and drinks delivered promptly. Dirty fork, big turn off.

I’m disappointed in the reviews left by my fellow Unilocalers, because they all failed to mention the $ 10.99 one tipping large pizza is only valid after 4 pm. After I got my mouth watered to try this establishment, it wasn’t until after I sat down and I saw on the menu the promotion has a time restriction. Other than that, the pizza is expensive. I don’t know who Spanky is, but I know BJ’s Brewhouse and Pinks Pizza, both known chains who sell their specialty pizzas at the same price as this Spanky’s.
Every Time I drive by, the parking lot is filled with cars. I figured, what the heck. Let’s see what this place is about.
Their deep dish reminds me of the old school Pizza Hut. Thick crust, greasy bottom, golden brown, really cheesy minus the Pizza Hut coupons. The pizza is tasty, but not $ 20 a pop good in my opinion. I do better going to pinks pizza and purchasing their flavorful specialty pizzas for $ 20 instead of Spanky’s one toppings for $ 20. I would return only on Monday and Wednesday after 4, because other than that, their pizzas are not worth the menu pricing.

I hadn’t been to Spankys in years since I wasn’t very impressed by my previous visit. Decided to give it a shot since they have a shiny new spot and I was very impressed. The space is open and inviting, the staff is friendly and attentive and the pizza was on point!
The Monday and Wednesday special is a large 1 topping pizza for 10.99 which is a bargain. We ordered meatball and it was only $ 2 more since it’s a premium topping.
The pizza itself was Amazing! The crust was exactly what I wanted, not super thin but with a nice bite and almost crackery edges.
Planning to go back next week. Gotta bring friends so that I can try a few different things.

A lot of people seem to like this place but for me it was nothing special. I love pizza and I am always down to try any pizza. I don’t usually make it to the side of town but If I hear rumors about great pizza, it is always worth to give it a try. As we were entering it smelled so good, I was anticipating eating a great pizza. The place is spacious and it was pretty full, always a good indication. We ended up ordering a pepperoni hand tossed pizza and a caesar salad. The salad was good, better than most restaurants. But I didn’t come here for the salad. The pizza itself looked like a great pizza. By the time the pizza arrived at the table I was already annoyed that they don’t offer coke, only pepsi and that they didn’t even offer one of those pizza spatulas to get the pizza slices onto your plate. The pizza itself was cheesy and gooey. To me, it tasted like early 90’s pizza hut. The crust was simply too thick and fluffy. I like crust that is crispy and regular pizza thickness. I must say that I am partial to authentic italian pizza and Spanky’s is just not. I think the regular diner will definitely like this pizza. There is no such thing as bad pizza but for me, it was just okay.

I’m not rally into pizza, but this place has some of the best I’ve had in Houston! Definitely recommend.

By far the best pizza in Houston!
We have tried the mushrooms and wings as apps. Both were delicious– the wings were better and HUGE!
The deep dish pizza is delicious. The crust is thick, but airy, like a good roll. We get the meat lovers or plain cheese.
The spaghetti is also very good– the marinara is slightly sweet, but the meatballs are gigantic!
Would highly recommend this place– we keep taking other Houstonians and out of towners and have not been disappointed! Keep in mind that the best time to go is during the week– the wait can get pretty long (hour) if you go Fri-​Sat evenings

I used to go to the original Spanky’s next door (many many years ago) and loved it. So we thought we would check out the new location. Let’s just say it’s not the same as the place I remembered so fondly.
Two of us split the small (10″) pizza and we had a slice and a half left over when we finished. It was obviously tasty enough since we ate most of it.
Negatives would be that we ordered light sauce but the pizza was still covered in it; so much that the crust was too soggy to take home the few pieces we had left. In fact their was liquid (presumably from the sauce but not sure) rolling around the pizza pan when we were done.
Next, we each had a side salad. The salad bowl had water in it as well. We both had to pour the water out of the salad bowl before we put the salad dressing on the salad. Even after trying to drain the salad’s, the water in the bowl made the dressing watery, which didn’t taste good. There was enough water that it filled a pizza plate.
On to the next issue — the service was horrible! One server took our order, she brought our one drink and then we never saw her again. Someone else brought our salads, and someone else then brought our pizza. Not one time did anyone come by and ask how we were doing, did we need anything (and we needed water). When it was time to go we had to get up and ask for our bill. When the server noticed we did not drink much (less than half) of our drink she asked did we not like it. We explained we did not like it and had someone come by we could have let them know. She just said we are busy and walked away.
And finally, we ordered a large top shelf margarita to share; neither of us wanted to finish it (which is why we needed a water refill); it did NOT taste «top shelf.» It was certainly NOT worth $ 12 — I suggest you don’t order the large until you try it and know you like it.
The two stars rather than a one star is mostly for the crust and overall flavor of the pizza (I’d say the pizza itself is a 3 ½ — 4 stars). They offer a thin crust, New York Style, deep dish, and wheat. We had the NY style and both of us loved it (he likes thin crust and I like deep, the NY is right in the middle). Although they put too much sauce on the pizza in our opinion, it is well prepared and tasted great.
Unfortunately the negatives outweighed the positives here, enough that we won’t go back and the rating is based on overall experience rather than the pizza alone. However, if you are in the area and really really like a lot of sauce on your pizza you might want to try it. But don’t get the TS Margarita here, try a beer.

My sister and I chose here for a quick lunch. They moved buildings since the last time I’ve been here and it is a great improvement. There’s more room in the restaurant but the tables is the same size so it still feels like your squished.
The meal we ordered was some buffalo wings and a pepperoni pizza to share.
The buffalo wings are really good to me, it reminds me of sticky wings with a good breeding. It’s not spicy at all and it’s very meaty.
The pizza was a deep crust cooked to perfection. It had a crunch but it was still soft. The cheese was nice and cheesy but not to much. It was flavorful and not a typical pizza.
I would choose to eat here and would recommend it to family and friends.

Can’t go wrong coming to eat here! Great food, great atmosphere, and a great place to get fat and drink beer!
