I decided to try Secure Data Services to fix my external hard drive because I saw they had a branch in Houston. They market free diagnostics even if you don’t decide to use their services. After the diagnosis, they quoted me $ 1522 to recover the data and they couldn’t even tell me how much they can recover. I decided not to proceed with their services and requested to pick it up from their office since I originally dropped it off. However, they charged me $ 25 to send back my own drive because they had to send it to their lab that’s outside of Houston(aka they don’t have facilities to fix your devices in Houston, it’s just a drop off location, like a post office). Despite I paid $ 25 to return my drive, most other competitors don’t charge this, the package did not require signature so it sat outside my apartment for several days when I was out on vacation — completely unprofessional when it comes to protecting your data. When I opened the box, I realized it was a different drive with a missing cord and a different case number written on it. After calling their customer service line and being put on hold multiple times, they were able to investigate that they put my drive in a different external casing, yet it was never told to me ahead of time and it wasn’t discovered until after I called. All the rep had told me was sorry and he can try to get me a discount if I still wanted their service but no guarantees. After what just happened, they are still trying to sell me their services when they have complete disregard for security of their customers’ data. I’m sure other companies have flaws too, but you’ve been warned not to try this one.
