I rated this OK because I don’t want to totally scare anybody off of Dr. Huang and his office. As stated in a previous review, the doctor and the clerk were pleasant. If you’re looking for a very fast eye exam(a refraction for glasses and nothing else,) then this is your place. I was in and out within ten minutes. I would chalk that up to the fact that I had very little change in my prescription, but the two people before me were also seen in about ten minutes each. The doctor answered all my questions, but I’m not sure I saw a smile cross his face at any time. He was not interested in any small talk, and all he wanted was to «get ‘em in, get ‘em out.» I’ve been to places where before the phoropter(that’s the lens machine) is put against your face, the part that will touch you is wiped with alcohol or some other germ-killing agent. That was not done here, and that bothered me a bit. I also wear bifocals, but my near vision was not checked at all. Perhaps the bifocal I have in my lenses is common and thus re-checking it was not necessary, but I was not told that or any other reason why my near vision wasn’t checked. Of course, if I’d been concerned, I could have asked. But some people might not know to ask. Finally, I returned home to two emails from this office: 1.) Gave a date a year from now, saying an appointment was made for my next visit. I did not ask for this at all, and I do not like having to cancel an appointment I never made. 2.) Asked me to set up auto-text messages for reminders. I didn’t put a cellphone number on their form, and I certainly didn’t ask for text messages to a phone that doesn’t exist. So – if you want a quick exam(and I do believe it was accurate,) then by all means, go here. If you want a friendly doctor with an office that is upfront about everything, then you might want to look elsewhere.

To be honest i was extremely nervous about going here bc of how sketch the area is and ive never been to a sears optical. I’m self employed now so don’t have the luxury of top of the line insurance. I pay out of pocket for anything my sad insurance doesn’t cover which also includes my eyes. Luckily, i had the best experience ever! I booked a same day apt for me and my husband. We were immediately welcomed by Bobbi and soon after seen by Dr. Hwang. Dr. Hwang and Bobbi were both so friendly and accommodating. I know the other reviewer said she was rushed but we didn’t have that experience. I’m naturally inquisitve/picky and my husband is an engineer… so yes we grilled and needed to know every process and our eyes had to be perfect. We were in there for an hour asking questions and talking and they were completely content to address all our questions and concerns. They took their time with us, we tested different contact lenses and were fit with the perfect pair. I usually wear glasses more than contacts so i needed a prescription for sunglasses as well. Bobbi hooked me up with an extra 50% off lenses and frames! Waaht waaaaaht! Total price for 2 exams with contact fitting, 1 year of contacts, and prescription ray bans came out to $ 600. That’s a pretty legit price! Vision and eye health are extremely important to me. I felt like this was excellent customer service/quality along with great prices. Will definitely be returning when my next exam is up!

I am a regular Sears Optical patient in Michigan and finally decided to find an eye doctor in Houston after 4 years of going to school here. The optometrist I saw, Dr. James was very unprofessional. He rushed the exam, checking each eye in about 1 minute and never checked my combined vision. After my 5 minute exam he gave me a pair of contacts to put on, had me read the bottom line of the chart and started to escort me out. I was shocked at how brief the exam was and commented that the lens prescription didn’t feel right. He acted irritated but redid my exam and found he «wasn’t too far off» with his first guess, but never apologized for his rude and rushed service. I am tempted to get another exam at a separate optometrist’s office just to be sure that the prescription he wrote for me is correct. I never plan to use this branch of Sears optical again.
