The most delicious and exotic food! We had the antelope empanadas and the camel burger! The empanadas are half price during happy hour!

I’m really a big fan of the concept here! There is information about the meats all over the place, so it’s good to see the nutritional value of what you’re eating. Friendly and helpful staff for first timers who don’t know anything about wild game. Ahem, me! I recommend the trio sliders! The food is delicious. Unfortunately, the meats don’t stand out to me. Meaning, I can eat all of the sliders and see the differences but I don’t taste the differences. Only because my taste buds are not trained enough to tell the difference. Besides that, I highly recommend trying this place. Maybe yalls taste buds are more better than mine.

Very easy to miss the location. It’s a small business and empty on a Tuesday mid-afternoon. First time coming here. Ordered to-go. The clerk was very patient to answer my many questions being the health conscious person I am and a novice to game meat. Here are some of the questions I asked in case anyone is curious: –Are the pretzel buns housemade? Yes, daily Which meats are wild meat? Kangaroo, camel, and wild boar. They are shipped from overseas. The rest are hunted locally or farm raised. Wild Boar is hunted here in Texas. –What does camel meat taste like? Similar to beef, more in fat, and juicier. –What does wild boar taste like? Similar to pork but sweeter and darker meat. Rabbit is currently in season. Wait time was 5 minutes. I debated between camel and boar. Ordered wild boar sausage with 3 toppings(grilled onions, grilled jalapenos, purple cabbage) and a sauce(aji pepper mayo). I actually wanted it plain so I could taste the meat but maybe I’ll try that some other time. How did my order taste? Overall, it was tasty. I don’t remember when last I had a hot dog but this taste better than one. The bun was soft. The cabbage gave it a crunch. The sauce was there but I have no idea what it should taste like. No gamey taste whatsoever.

This is a great place that has a constantly varied selection of rare & exotic meats like rattlesnake, iguana, apalca, elk, bison, & rabbit. The staff & service is top notch, and you can even order a craft beer or two while you eat! This is really one of the underappreciated spots in Houston’s burger scene. In addition to the great burgers served on Slo Dough pretzel or wheat buns, they also have a variety of generously sized salads and house made sausages/brats. Give them a shot & you won’t be disappointed!

This quaint restaurant offers you exotic meats in many ways– empanadas, burgers, sausages, chili, etc. With my visit here, I came with an open mind and stomach. I order their Python chili fries, yak empanadas, and slider trio, which consisted of kangaroo, antelope, and venison meat. Along with the empanadas and sliders came dipping sauces for each item that were to enhance the taste of the foods and let me say, it was delicious. The staff were wonderful and make recommendations when I told them it was my first visit. There’s also beer sold here if you’re in a drinking mood.

Not really a fan of domesticated red meats but game is another story. Driving through Houston on I-10, it is hard not to make a quick detour here. It is so close to the highway. This last trip it was warm enough on a Sunday in late January to stop by here and enjoy lunch outside. And Morris could join me because the patio is dog friendly. Most of the types of game on their menu are meats I have had while travelling at one time or another but alpaca and camel were both meats I had never eaten before. Plus the camel was being served as kebabs so you were not just getting ground meat (which I feel makes the taste a bit less distinguishable). The kebabs were pretty tasty, some pieces tender and some with more gristle and tougher to chew. The alpaca burger had a smoother, softer texture and a slighty noticable gamey taste. The pretzel buns are great, very fresh tasting. Oh and I never leave here without an antelope burger to go. Zebra or Wildabeast anyone?

Exotic Meats on pretzel buns, dressed with fresh sliced tomatoes, onions, pickles and lettuce paired with specialty sauces served on the side, yes that sounds like something I’d like, well after passing Sammy’s for several years I finally found the opportunity to try them out. This little restaurant squeezed in between two streets on a tiny island plot offers a drive thru and a tiny parking lot that can be a little challenging, but oh this place is so worth it. The moment we walked through the door of this unique little restaurant it was clear these guys have an imagination and are very creative, the restaurant appears to be a older bank that has been renovated, but their creativity doesn’t stop there, one peek at the menu or at the chalkboard behind the counter, your decision making ability will kick into over-drive. As you read each offering your mind instantly provides a mental picture of each, whether you associate each mental imagine with a movie, the zoo or a documentary, don’t over think it they have business cards on the counter with name like Texas Yaks, Water Buffalo Ranch to name a few of the domestic suppliers, so I don’t think you need to worry about big game hunters stalking endangered species, this restaurant is more about offering a taste of sustainable exotic meats blended with an assortment of spices, herbs, fruits, etc to create gourmet burgers and sausages that not only taste amazing, these lean meats are recognized as a healthier choice with less fat and are lower in cholesterol than most meats found everywhere else. The exception staff here not only provides a wealth of knowledge and outstanding customer service they recognize that some customers need a little reassurance before placing their orders since our culture has taught us chicken, beef or pork are what we are suppose to eat, these boring selections are also offered here in a variety of ways so keep an open mind. I chose the trio of sliders — camel, elk and yak none were overpoweringly strong or gamey in anyway, the recipes are so well thought out and tested they allow you to experience the uniquely mild flavors and textures of each without shocking your senses. This is truly something you’ll be glad you experienced, I know for me this first visit here had me anticipating my next visit before I finished half my lunch today.

I just finished having lunch at Sammys for the second time in two months. I had the elk burger last time, but I was a little more daring and tried the camel burger. I wasn’t disappointed. I had the camel with pickles, onions and pickles. I had the habanero ketchup sauce and I mixed it with the ghost pepper sauce — OMM!!! Not sure if I will ever go back to beef. The next time I come I am trying either the yak burger or alpaca burger. I’d recommend this restaurant to anyone. You will not be disappointed!

I had the Elk dog and fried pickles, the pickles have to be the best I have had so far. The dog was about the same as my favorite wild game meat sausage dogs in town. If the weather was bad I would come here because it is inside unlike the other joint. The staff is friendly and attentive which I like in a restaurant, and I would definitely come here if I was craving fried pickles.

I had seen on their marquee that Sammy’s was serving iguana empanadas. The thought of that captured my imagination. About a week later, I finally got around to driving through to order some, only to learn they were out. No big deal. About a week later, I called, asking if they had more iguana in stock. They took my name and number and promised to call when they had more. Sure enough, they called today. I went by and picked up an order of the empanadas along with a yak burger. The iguana empanadas were moist, tender, and sweet. I’m really glad I tried them. I’m sure I’ll get them again. Moreover, I’m impressed with their dedication to customer service. It’s rare, appreciated, and noteworthy.

Perfect spot to complete an exotic foodie bucket list… Lots of wild food choices that don’t «taste like chicken» to exhaust the taste buds… For APPETIZERS we grabbed the sliders: Camel, Venison, and Yak w three tasty side sauces, the camel tasted the best w the Yak being the 2nd best. Pyton & Elk chili w cheese were appealing as well as the Kangaroo burger. Food was not gamey tasting or stomach churning which was my expectation. Server gave us an University level education on each animal.

We came on a Saturday night ahead of the dinner night crowd. The guy working in front was very nice and help us deciding since it was our first time. I had the trio sliders and my bf got the water buffalo with python fries. We also ordered beers. The total was on the pricy side but you’ll have to factor in the«wild meat». We didn’t have to wait long for our food. At first glance it all look very delicious esp the fries. My bf couldn’t wait and dig it. I love how they had a special spread for each burgers. Adding the ghost pepper sauce with the burgers is a very very good idea as well. Overall I loved it!

Love sammys! I would give five stars if there was a better parking situation. The kangaroo burger is so good! They sell their sauce! The cilantro sauce is always in my Christmas gifts! They also make salads that are delicious! If you are feeling daring, must get the cilantro fries!

My boyfriend and I came in on a Friday around 7 pm and were in and out of the place in 30 minutes! Service was quick and the staff was friendly. I got the pheasant dog with the Cajun remoulade sauce. We also got a side of onion rings that were amazing! The batter actually stayed on the onion rings and were crispy. I’ll be returning soon.

Is it just me? Cause I just wasn’t feeling the burgers. I’m not a burger kind of gal, so I wasn’t too sure what to expect. Yes, these are indeed unique meats, but it just didn’t «WOW’ me. Ya know? I got a Kangaroo burger and it just tasted like a regular ol’ burger to me. I got a single patty with onions, lettuce, tomato, and some type of mayo. Forgot. MEH. But wait. The buns were good. Tasted like a pretzel. Not bad. Shared a full order of Sammy’s Wild Fries with Andrew Z. and it kind of reminded me of a baked potato, but fries. It was pretty good. I mean, who doesn’t like a basket of fries loaded with cheese, green onions, and BACON. Sorry. I’m just not a burger person.

I’ve eaten here a couple times and am definitely a fan. My go-to hot dog is the pheasant with cognac. It tastes exactly like Moon Tower’s…I’m guessing they both use the same supplier? Regardless, it comes on a pretzel bun, and it’s delicious. I love that you can get raw or crunchy onions as a topping… crunchy is the way to go! I also like that, unlike Moon Tower, you can order fries. The fries seem«freshly cut,» but they’re unsalted. However, they have a delicious habanero ketchup and a cilantro aioli, so it’s forgivable. Fries and a hot dog set me back ~$ 10…not too shabby. I’ve had bites of other friends’ meals, like the yak/elk/venison slider trio, and some of the other hot dogs, and have found everything to be pretty tasty. With a vast array of unusual meats available all the time, as well as seasonal meat offerings, this is definitely a cool place to come to try something a little different.

Had some kangaroo and elk for the first time and it was pretty good. Was sort of dissapointed they ran out of python meat. But overall food was great! Definitely gotta try some different animals next time. Would definitely reccommend this place if you into exotic things ;)

Went here for lunch with about 10 co-worker. I called ahead and they reserved seats for us when they aren’t required to… very nice of them. Now onto the food! I ordered the trio… the meats for the day was Venison(eh alright), yak(amazing!) and elk(did not enjoy it at all). Now this is based solely on the meats not the actual food. Everything was cooked well and tasted fresh! I also had an order of the Python chili cheese fries annnnnnd its EPICS. Next time you want to try something new and venture out of the normal foods defiantly come here! Friendly staff, nice atmosphere and great food!
