Try the Chapli, ground beef with spices, round shape. Have an Afghan naan to accompany the dish. For desert, try the Firni, a delicious refreshing rice pudding. This was our first Afghan restaurant and we love the food. The Korma Challow is also a very good lamb shank.

I came here on a Tuesday looking to buy a Sari on Harwin, but forgot that most of the shops close on Tuesdays, so I stumbled upon this gem in search of a tasty morsel. I ordered hot tea as did my lunch date, and I was amazed at how fragrant and delightful the tea was. It is served with sugar cubes and I could have sat on their romantic raised platform and gazed out upon their 2nd story location overlooking the street. It was quiet, peaceful and lovely. But that’s not all, the food. OMG the food. I can’t remember the names of the dishes; rather, I asked the waiter to make an appetizer, lunch, and dessert recommendation. He did and we enjoyed all of it. I promise to do an update with pics and food names. Overall, this place is delightful: the ambiance, the brand new raised platform that you can take your shoes off(no mini skirts or tight outfits, note to self) and sit crossed legged, the food and drink are exotic and extremely well-priced. I’m definitely going back. Maybe tonight! ;)

Confused by the culinary skills that vary so much between lunch and dinner. The only notable point that I would like to make is that the place has survived in a very competitive location so it must be doing something right. I don’t what it is and I don’t think I would care to know.

Good but nothing special. I had the iraqi kabob mix which is a choice of beek, chicken or lamb kabob. The Chicken kabob was very good. Lots of flavor and cooked perfectly. The lamb kabob was a little tough almost rubbery for some reason. Comes with rice and naan. About $ 8. A little pricey for a small place. Place is clean. Meals came out in a timely manner. I went at lunch and seating was wide open.

The Quaboulli Pallow was excellent. It was sweet, tangy, and rich eight he lamb shank. There are a lot of flavors in this dish. We also had a chicken kabob and it was good but nothing special. The yogurt appetizer was good too with a but more cucumber and black pepper than tzaziki. I gave 3 stars because the chicken was mediocre and the quaboilli Pallow was good, but not good enough to carry another star. This place is worth the trip though.

Seek and you shall find. I had a wine group dinner here a few months back and I was thoroughly impressed. At the time, it was BYOB although I’m not sure if they still are or not. The food was incredible… just full of flavors! We tried both Afghan and Persian cuisine. I would definitely recommend the kebabs. The rice and yogurt sauce are to die for. Prices are great and there are a ton of cool shops in the area to explore after your dinner. Trust me, you’ll need to walk it off because it is hard to not over-eat. It’s on the second story of a shopping center. I usually park in the attached garage to access it from the 2nd level. Yummy goodness.

This place is near the heart of some of the best places in Houston. I liked how it was upstairs on a escalator. The place is fairly new. The food was reasonably cheap. I got a special that was for dinner 4.99 $. Either way I’m coming back. I got chicken tikka and it was scrumptious. The waiter(owner?) was very nice.

I tried this place last night and had the chicken curry. My friends ordered the chicken tikki masala and one of the ground beef kebabs. We were all very happy with what we ordered. The meats were all seasoned perfectly. Our waitress was helpful as was the owner(I think!) who came by several times to check on us. The prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is cosy.

Currently, the restaurant serves both Afghan and Persian cuisine. Both flavours are similar and different from one another, and are bordering nations. This little café is located upstairs of the Hilcroft Plaza. The decoration and seating’s are well displayed. It‘s a great place to eat out with friends. I have enjoyed food from both of the cuisines. I recommend trying out the ‘Mantu’ appetizer, from the Afghan portion of the menu. Basically, Mantu is Afghan style ravioli that is stuffed with spicy minced meat, and served with a spicy tomato mint sauce, and topped with yogurt. It is delicious and one of my favourites! Eating just one morsel blows me away, and astounds me to how unique the dish is. I would also recommend any of the Kebab platters. The meat is juicy and slow cooked, served with fragrant rice. I recommend trying out the Afghan brown rice, which is basically rice cooked with fragrant spices. Fluffy, warm bread baked just out of the oven is served with no charge, a long with fresh herbs and feta cheese. Saffron Café is a great place to uncover cuisines from two beautiful cultures. It‘s a spot for those who are always looking to try out something new. It‘s like taking a journey down the long and lost Silk Road.

Very reasonable prices, good food and great portions. Conducive for small parties(long row of tables along left & right walls). Friendly staff. If you have never tried Persian food, they will help you order. Try the Zereshk Polo(basmati rice seasoned with saffron and barberries).
