First try at crawfish. Very delicious. 22 bucks for 2 lbs isn’t so bad of a price.

This is one of my least favorite restaurants in Houston. I have to guess that the food was just terrible, because there is no way that real Cajun food tastes THAT bad when so many people love it. The gumbo just tasted like mud, the jambalaya was bland, and the cornbread was literally as hard as a rock. I asked for some fresh cornbread and it was just as dry and hard. Only the boudin balls were passable; the rest was utterly unremarkable. The employees were nice, but they couldn’t seem to understand why we had a problem with the food. I would not eat here again.

I’m from Louisiana and my craving for crawfish was at its highest. Its January and they have pretty decent sized crawfish here. It was $ 7/lb and you can order as many and as little in pounds as you desire. The seasoning was great but there was a lot of water included in my order. My friend and I also tried their BBQ Shrimp. Please do not order this dish. Its not a good representation of BBQ Shrimp and it was gross plus salty. In the end, my goal to eat good crawfish was accomplished. I shall be back soon(crawfish only though). *Parking is horrible. Spots are tight and the parking lot is not well lit.

This restaurant is a crime haven. Last month, 8 cars got broken into. The owners know about the prevalent crime and decide to do nothing. They don’t increase surveillance, they don’t add more lights and they don’t bother to have a security guard. The criminals probably frequent the restaurant more than the average customer. If you want to eat here, take a cab or the bus. Otherwise, stay away.

So… I go to Ragin Cajun about twice a month on the weekends and I have to say there food is really good. Now your probably thinking why is the rating bad? Well, either the manager changed or someone new is there and it has gone so down hill from there. The one server I really enjoyed is George, but he doesn’t work there anymore! So I recommend LA Crawfish ! It’s two times better

Good service but wish I could say the same for the food. I got the snow crab legs meal. The corn nor potatoes had any flavoring on it at all. The crab was also way under seasoned. My buddy got crawfish and it was also under seasoned. For being a Houston seafood place, this should improve significantly. There are places that put these types of meals and bring it out in an individual bag covered in a cajun sauce/spice mixture, and this is exactly the concept they should adopt.

I’m not really sure what to say specifically about this place however it was a scene from the past. Where should I start? Hmmm… Not to point out the obvious but I’ll go ahead and say it. My coworkers and I decided that we wanted to go get a quick lunch here because we were craving cajun food. The three of us were lets just say… Chocolate. And everyone else was Vanilla. Not sure exactly why people stopped eating to just stare and heads literally turning so we kept going inside the place to order. Again more heads turning. We ordered our food and the food was a good price. I ordered the gumbo which I don’t really recommend because it tasted like there’s dishwashing liquid residue in the gumbo. The gumbo was very salty. Their fries were hot, crispy and seasoned well. My friends ordered PoBoys which they enjoyed. My friend had a shrimp PoBoy which she loves that was not skimp on the seafood which is amazing and my other friend ordered the chicken in which is said was seasoned well and chicken tender. Luckily I ordered the jambalaya which was not so bad. It made it better when I found that they provided Slap Yo Mama seasoning to add my own flavor. I was surprised I didn’t see a chocolate person in the kitchen at a Cajun restaurant. Anyway. I’ll just say that the food was mediocre but what made the whole experience weird was that it was like we were not in the galleria where the crowd is usually diverse. But literally, every white person was sitting on the right side of the restaurant and every black was sitting on the left. I’m not going to say it possibly was bad timing. But it was an elephant in the room Bc you can see people looking across at each other. I took a photo for sure but for the sake of this post and peoples faces. I’ll pass. Restaurants are about the experiences as well along with the food.

Came here for lunch on a Sunday, and the parking lot is tight, but the inside has a tone of seating inside and outside seating available. There is a bar that is attached too. It’s order up and they call your number kind of place. There is a large variety of items to chose from. I ordered a few items on the menu to try. We got the crawfish étouffée, hush puppies, boudin balls, kids chicken tenders meal, bread pudding, and beignets. The main food items were good, the bowl of étouffée was a giant helping, the hush puppies were good. The boudin balls are the lightly breaded kind and it was good, very filling. The chicken tenders were nothing special, but the french fries were good, and the helping was big for a kids meal. I wasn’t a fan of the dessert though, the beignets were not like traditional ones in NOLA, it was a little dense and not as fluffy, so I was disappointed in that. The bread pudding wasn’t that good and fairly small for how much was charged for it. I wouldn’t really recommend the desserts, but everything else was good. The staff is really friendly and helpful, I’m not really sure if you are supposed to bust your own items or not, but there was a person that comes by and collect your stuff as you are eating. I did leave a tip, since there is an option to, so I guess maybe they bust it for you?

This is one of my husband’s favorite places. We started out with boudain balls and fried crawfish. The guys enjoyed the boudain balls but the crawfish, although perfectly fried, were tough. We all had gumbo: two shrimp and crab and one chicken and sausage. All were excellent. Service was prompt and friendly. Of course we will be back.

This place was perfect for a rainy afternoon. Had a half hurricane and half margarita and it was really good but the strawberry margarita I had later was even better. I had the crab cake, the crab legs and my boyfriend had the fried crawfish and the crawfish euttofee. Their tartar sauce is awesome! The crab cake was phenomenal! Then we had a piece of cornbread and the bread pudding, both of which are amazing! The sauce on the bread pudding was to die for and the cornbread was probably the best I have ever had. All in all, a very enjoyable experience and I will be back to try other things like the oysters!

Everything is SOOOOOOOOOOOO salty. We ordered shrimp and crab gumbo. Bbq shrimp, grilled oysters and boiled crab. I’m pretty positive I now have high cholesterol from this place! Yuck!!! I am from Louisiana and trust me, this is not authentic. Just add a bunch of salt and call it Cajun?! — Haaaa!!! If they call this authentic Cajun food, they are insane. The only thing authentic here is the music they play. Waste of money. Avoid this place at all costs!!!

How I grade this place: Staff: 5⁄5 Cleanliness: 5⁄5 Catfish PoBoy: 4⁄5 Seafood Gumbo: 3⁄5 Crawfish Etoufe: 5⁄5 Value vs. Price: 3⁄5 So a 20⁄25 isn’t too bad at all. Solid meal.

The food here is ok, but a bit overpriced. Anything fried here is the safe way to go, you probably won’t be disappointed. I had a po’boy here a while back and I remember the shrimp being crispy, fried and delicious. I ordered the Buffalo(fried) crawfish salad($ 15) which was great and shared buffalo wings(8 for $ 12) and 1lb snow crab($ 25). The snow crabs were previously frozen, quickly steamed with the seasoning, but they were hard to get out of the shell – the meat was stuck on the shell and kind of dry. The wings were really big and were cooked well, though. You can go to BB’s Café down the road and get Cajun style food for around the same price and be at an actual sit down restaurant. We spent $ 18 and change over the Groupon deal. Overall, it’s worth it if you have the Groupon that was $ 21 for $ 40 worth of food, although I’m not sure if I’ll be coming back soon without one. Our food total was almost $ 60 without the Groupon!

Yum. Yum. Some more yum! Why can’t we have Ragin Cajun in San Antonio? It’s so good! I liked all the shade we got from everyone during our trip to Houston, especially the other diners at this facility hating on our Niner gear. It made the food taste even better! Shrimp poboy, grilled? Roasted? Smoked? oysters, muffelato, shrimp gumbo and red beans and rice were all on the table. I wasn’t too impressed with the kids Mac and cheese, but clearly that’s not what you come here for. The poboy was packed with shrimp. The red beans had the perfect amount of cheese, onion, rice and sausage. Truly a prime meal to take on while in Houston, any time, every time!

Food, atmosphere, and price. Food. Red beans and rice — not enough spice(flavor) in it. Small amounts of sausage in it. But at least the bean ratio was greater than the rice. Shrimp po boy — large shrimp with a crusty baguette. Ketchup instead of mayo. Good seasoning on the batter. Shrimp and crab gumbo — ample amounts of seafood for a soup. Again, not too much a spice(flavor) to it. Not as rich as I have had elsewhere. Dozen raw oysters — very large. Cant go wrong with it. Only nit pick is the cocktail sauce, was just ketchup with hot sauce and very little amount of horseradish. Had to just use raw horseradish. Seafood platter — catfish piece was cut thing, shrimp were large by under seasoned, and oysters underwhelming. Just a large fried platter. Food — 3 stars Atmosphere Décor was great. Lots of Louisiana gear and apparel. But it does a service to the city of Houston. Lots of local and football posters everywhere. Definitely a place for the guys. Music was also on point. Zydeco music with interspersed recent hits mixed in. Tv’s on top to watch sports. Loved it. Atmosphere — 4 Price. Definitely not breaking the bank. Most large entries are under 20. But if looking for a $ 6 – 8 meal, not the place. When thinking Cajun comfort, not thinking to spend too much. Price — 3.

I’ve lost track of the number of times we drove past this place after going to Costco and I smiled at the big metal mudbug on the roof. I always said we’d try it someday, but it took a Groupon to finally get us through the door, and I regret not coming here sooner! When you first step into this place you get a real kind of ‘tourist trap’ vibe — they sell T-shirts, they sell sauces with their restaurant’s name on it, and they have currency from all kinds of countries pinned onto the wall. But once you try the food you’ll see it’s less for tourists and more for their fan club; you’ll be wanting to take home a bottle of their signature sauce after trying it on your sandwich, and trust me, you will want to get a sandwich. The«Cuz we Care» combo — a fried crawfish po’ boy on soft and crusty bread, and a cup of gumbo with generous amounts of shrimp and crab leg meat — is a steal at $ 15, and 10% of that goes to a local charity. It even includes a drink, and there’s a good selection of sodas and Red Diamond iced tea. Aside from that, we usually get a dozen boiled shrimp — they come with lemon and remoulade but we’ve found little use for either. The spices in the boil compliment the taste of the meat perfectly. And while I haven’t tried them personally, my father-in-law can vouch for the quality of the baked oysters. Next time we go, I might just try the fried oyster po’ boy — if it’s anything like the rest of the food, it should be great.

I was in town for a convention and this place was recommended! It was Delish! I had chargrilled oysters, gumbo, mango margarita, grilled shrimp, and gumbo! I bought a groupon for $ 20 for $ 40 worth of food! It’s not your traditional sit down. You order, and pick your food up with a tray. Don’t forget to get your own napkins and utensils… I gave it a 4 b/c my gumbo was not hot; but it was perfect the next day

There were more misses than hits for our first trip here. The shrimp and crab gumbo tasted like it was made with spoiled broth. The shrimp was a good size but the broth just ruined the whole dish. The hot boudin sausage was just as bad! We got it boiled and the meat with the rice tasted mushy. The grilled oysters were decent but not worth $ 14 for half a dozen. Nothing special. Just buttered oysters smothered in cheese. The fresh oysters and Bloody Mary were good. Those were the only items I actually liked.

I stumbled across this gem a few weeks ago and have been back every week since. I grew up on the Texas/Louisiana border and lived in New Orleans for a year, so I’m qualified to speak on quality cajun food. I can confidently say Ragin Cajun has the best crawfish in Houston… size and seasoning are both up to par. I’ve yet to try anything else on the menu, but why would I?! Update: I’ve gone back several times and each time my girlfriend has ordered something different. Thumbs up on the red beans and rice, jumbalaya and fried shrimp and catfish. Thumbs down on the boudin poboy and the chicken wings. She’s from Oklahoma, so she doesn’t know any better(lol jk). Also, the restrrooms are small and slightly repulsive, so I prefer not to use them unless I absolutely have to.

Happy hour on weekday(3-closing Monday, 3 – 7PM T-F) = $ 10 dozen of big fresh Gulf oysters! Ragin’ Cajun is a self-serve restaurant where you go up to the counter to order your food and pick up your food when called. As you can see from the picture below(assuming Unilocal actually puts my picture below this review), the oysters here are big AND fresh! I can see why this place is almost always mega crowded at around 5PM. Oh yeah on that note, Ragin’ Cajun does get mega crowded at around 5PM because the restaurant has such a dazzling oyster happy hour and it’s located at the busy Richmond Avenue, so plan accordingly and go early when you can!
