Stopped by for some bánh canh on a recent trip. Easy location across from the huge southeast asian supermarket on Bellaire west of the Sam Houston Parkway. The noodle were nice and thick as they should be and the soup flavour was just fine. Not a fancy place at all but certainly just fine for a decent Sunday afternoon meal which was under twenty bucks for two people. The young man that greeted us and serving the dishes was super nice and friendly. He gave us complimentary drinks while we waited for our meal and also gave us discount cards for a return trip. If you are in the area and need a bánh canh fix … drop by and give it a try.

Been there 5 times. Foods got worse every time. Pork skin got hair, didn’t even try to cut it up… broth taste like water w/a little chicken broth powder… tasted like they make it when I ordered. WON’T EVERGOBACK. I gave them so many chances… No more!!!

My food literally takes 10 years to come out. The food wasn’t even that good, it’s lacking flavor and spices. DONOTRECOMMEND!

I was craving some Banh Cuon but the other place was closed so I walked over to this place since I always wanted to try it. Prior to this it was an Asian dessert place that was *meh* so I wasn’t surprised to see that it’s not packed. I am pretty sure this place is the same owner or related to Phở 24. The plastic cups, menu, and flavor profile is the same. Since all the changes to Phở 24, I am no longer a fan of Phở 24. Anyhow, the food. Cha Gio(Vietnamese eggrolls) — a whole shrimp wrapped and fried with some other stuff. Flavor was good but shrimp was overcooked so it was more like a rock.
Bun Bo Hue was pretty bland. It wasn’t bad but I have had so much better. I forget the name but it’s the Canh with shrimp, lobster, and scallop. They used too much yellow food coloring so it looked almost neon, but I can get over the color. They under cooked the few noodles I had. I can almost overlook the under cooked noodles. Some of my scallops were frozen. I might even be to overlook the slightly frozen scallops. Heck, they would eventually heat up in the soup right? No, the thing that I absolutely can not overlook is the rubberized lobster tail. It was so chewy I couldn’t bit through the thing so I had to swallow it almost whole. Then I almost choked on it trying to get it down. I even had to overlook the fruitfly that was in my water to try to get some kind of help getting it down. A lobster sacrificed its life and I didn’t even get to enjoy it. :( Would I return? No. But I do wish them luck. There is a lot of room for growth.

banh canh is my all time fav Vietnamese dish. I use to frequent this restaurant when they first opened but as time passed by, and like many other Vietnamese functions, it went downhill and quickly. this shop had a lot of potential but they lacked up keeping the place. I visited on a Sunday afternoon and looking in it was pretty dead, for a Sunday. upon walking in, the smells weren’t very pleasant. the stench was a pungent smell of fish sauce. but to please my craving, I endured the smells. when it came to getting my food, it took 20 minutes! and when it finally arrived, I noticed they have reduced the amount of udon-it’s the best part! the lime and chili they gave me were dried out and looks like it’s been left out overnight. traditionally banh canh isn’t consumed with bean sprouts but the broth was so hot I wanted some to cool it down and for a little bit of flavor. the bean sprouts came out and they were brown!!! I’m disappointed and the hunt for good quality banh canh is back on. oh and fyi, one of the waitresses came out of the bathroom with rubber gloves on, worked the register with the same gloves, and brings out food with the same gloves.

I ordered Ban Canh Tra Vinh. The bun is so little. I asked for bean sproud(gia). Look at photo what they gave me. Terrible. This place is getting pricy. Not enought to eat. Their credit card machine always broke. I think the credit card machine never worked. They just pretend the accept visa master card but they never do. Maybe they take cash so they dont pay tax.

One star for their service. The lady, I guessed she was the owner, was really annoying while she took our orders. We were 3, me bf and my mom. The owner spoke to my mom in viet while we were ordering. After we told her what we wanted, she started to be so annoyed«why you dont get this bowl, it is little bit more pricy but it is good», «3 people should have this» «what you get is not special, you should get this one, it will be better«. Others might think this is so nice, or friendly of her, but for me, NO. My mom, after saying no to her many times, finally gave up by accepting one of her offers«getting one more add-on side: banh chao quay ». And we ended up couldnot finish it because we never ate that with banh canh ever before . Lastly, before we left the restaurant, the owner made her last question to my mom in Viet, what race my bf is . I never want to be back I swear !!! Side note: it is too pricy for what you get!!!

Beware people!!! Please do not eat here. One international student working there as a waitress but she never get paid for month and the owner don’t let her get tips. After five weeks without paid, they’re asking her to quit. She’s finally leaving without getting paid. The restaurant dare her to call a police. Mordern slave at it finest. Please boyscott this business.

I thought that the banh canh was okay here. I ended up getting the #1, which is supposed to be the most popular dish. There wasn’t enough banh for my taste, and the flavor was just decent. I think the price was a bit steep, but you do get a lot of canh. So basically you can just to go it and add in some udon when you get home. However, the owners of this place was extremely nice and she ended up giving us a free appetizer!

I think the old lady is the owner, she provide bad service and attitude. Expensive! an oversized bowl full of soup but not much substance. barely see the noodles! Never return to this restaurant.

$ 10-$ 15 for a bowl of Vietnamese or ANY udon is quite ridiculous when the majority of the actual ingredients at this oversized bowl full of syrupy soup and not much substance. Their premade coffee is terrible by the way… people who use boba cups for coffee should be shot. The food just isn’t worth it unfortunately.

Be advised that this place is CASHONLY… Besides that, Best banh canh in Houston hands down. This is not a great place for large groups. They can accommodate, but you need to call ahead of time. I always get the $ 14 lobster//crab//scallop banh canh and it never lets me down. The service is great considering its bellaire china town. Better learn how to use your chopsticks because Royal Udon Noodle is not for the novice chopstick user.

Idk how they make it in Vietnam but thumbs down. I guess I don’t like yellow starchy tapioca soup.

The only good thing here is their service. It was fast and nice but my rate is based on their food. It was bad and bland. Me and my bf ordered #1& #5; they were ewww! I’m sorry but this is the worst banhcanh place in houston so far!

My friend recommended vietnamese udon here. I came and tried the 1st one in menu(the most famous one). The taste was so bad. Its so weird. One more important thing, really expensive. I felt so waste money for this. Never come back here again.

I am only giving this place 3 star because of the service. The owner is super sweet and nice but the food is expensive! I don’t see anything special about it. I might give this place one more try but that is about it. I has the $ 352 people Banh canh dish and it was lacking.

I wish there is a zero star for me to choose. We went there as a group of 12 people. The service was slow, and it took about almost 1 hour to get the food. They do not have all of the drink they listed on the menu, just couple choices available. Our friend recommended this place, so our family wanted to try new food. We order different types of banh canh, but beware the broth is the same like the previous reviews said. I don’t taste seafood in the broth. The shrimp they used is not fresh, and there just a few udon in the bow. For men, they should eat 2 – 3 bowls to fill their empty stomach. Honestly, for $ 8−10/bowl, it is definitely not worth it. Please find somewhere else to eat.

A coworker recommended me to try this place out. The place was a bit crowded when i came so a longer wait time is expected. Yet, after 10 minutes of waiting i saw a server just standing there on his phone rather than taking my order. The menu actually offered multiple types of udon across Viet Nam which is really catchy. I ordered bánh canh thp cm which will have most of the stuffs beside sea foods and to my surprise, what i got was a bunch of chicken pieces, 2 shredded pieces from a pig feet(half of the original), little bit of udon and a bunch of other stuffs. With 3 scoops and most of the udons were gone!!! The borth was a little bland. Their ch cá was bad though(little of actual fish and a bunch of flour so you cannot actually taste the fish at all). From what i noticed, they only use one type of broth for all of their bowls. That is a big No No because each region of has its own flavor. The only difference in these bowls is the type of ingredients. In my opinion, my bowl does not worth the $ 10 i am paying for. If you are looking for an authentic Banh Canh then this is not the right place that you should go to.

Little but pricy but food I guess it’s fine For those who expect too much in Vietnamese store, lower u expectation, it’s Viet store, it’s not like American store at all, like totally not, plus it’s on bellaire, it’s the rachet area, what do you expect?
