I really wanted to like this place. I love the tacky décor, the friendly staff, but sorry to say; I did not like the food at all. Had meatloaf, cabbage and potatoes. The meatloaf was dry, not juicy and poorly seasoned. Cabbage tasted strange to me. Reminds me of school or hospital food. Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t think I will be back

Mom’s is just an inviting place, and hot home cooked food ready when you walk in the door can never be a bad thing. I honestly have never been a big fan of cafeteria style restaurants, but that is probably because I had never seen it done well till Mom’s. Check their website before you go and you’ll know whats on the steam table that day. Plus they have a menu to order from if you wan something else. Make sure and ask for mom at the register. She’ll probably be close at hand!

It’s close to my job so I eat here quite often. My favorite thing about this place is the customer service. They are nice. Especially if you come often and they start to recognize you. I appreciate that. First off It’s fast. You can get your food right away because there’s always a selection of cooked food to choose from immediately. The prices are reasonable. Secondly, there is so much variety. There is something different every day that you can choose from the steam table or you can get made to order cheeseburgers, sandwiches, gyros, deli sandwiches, baked potatoes, salads, etc. Granted I have not loved every item I have eaten here(i.e. I usually avoid the meatloaf) but I have learned my favorites and stick with those. My recommendations are: Baked Greek chicken, baked tilapia. Fried catfish, Greek salads with chicken or gyro meat, made to order cheeseburgers, Nutella pie So to recap, they are friendly, fast, with much variety and they don’t cost a lot.

Mom’s serves southern food that is primarily cafeteria style with the option of some make-to-order items. What it is: the kind of food you would serve in your home. What it isn’t: high-end fare — but it’s not supposed to be. The point is, you come here for good food fast, not to have the best dining experience of your life. It’s a relaxed, casual setting for a relaxed, casual meal. The verdict: I would come again.

After the great reviews this place got on Unilocal.I wanted to give it a try. I was not impressed, I must say this a cozy place with a southern feel. I ordered the chicken fried steak breakfast meal. I was not impressed, the chicken fried steak with very greasy, the grits had a hard taste to them. I didn’t see what the big deal was with this place.

Haven’t been here in a while, but the food is still great! Took a bunch of newbies and they all enjoyed it, too. The staff is eternally nice and hospitable.

My office and I love coming here! I am vegetarian so I can’t speak for much of the food, but the Greek salad is AMAZING! They make all of their dressings from scratch and serve it with warm pita bread that I dip in the greek dressing. Just fantastic! Also the owner is always so kind and knows over half of the people who walk in the door. Definitely a «home-ey» place to eat.

Dee-licious! Fresh hot food served up cafeteria line style in a century side styled restaurant. Rough and a bit rustic with its plywood wall style, they deliver on big taste with typical cooked like momma home style country food fare. Massive quantities with low prices. This is a blue collar hard working I’m a hungry man style place. Line items change daily. They also have a fixed off the line menu for sandwiches and other things. They don’t do dinner, but lunch crowd is busy. Also have a breakfast menu that looks just as promising. If I go I’ll update the review. Worth revising multiple times to try all the items in the line!

We’ve been looking for an easy casual place close to home with good food and now we’ve found it. The food is good, the service is great, and it’s a great family place with no fuss. It’s similar to a Denny’s or IHOP but better in every sense. We’ll be back for more.

Yummy home eats! I had the plate lunch with greens, okra, chicken casserole, cornbread and sweet tea. A little bit of everything — healthy, comfort, made to order, daily bkfst and lunch steam table. Friendly staff, clean. Come get some! :)

As soon as you drive up, you can see the hominess of the place. Lots of kitschy items inside and outside to let you know what this place is all about. As soon as you walk in, you are greeted by the cafeteria line. I chose the chicken fried steak, green beans and corn, with a side of chicken and rice soup. Everything was good. I’ve been on a search for the best CFS in Houston. Theirs is not the best, but I liked it very much and would have it again. I will definitely be back to try some of their other items on the line. The chicken pot pie looked delicious, as did the lasagna and the roasted chicken. Staff was very friendly. I also thought it was cute how they served their sandwiches, in pie plates.

There was a woman there who was just absolutely amazing. She didnt wait for you to ask a question she told you what was what and what ppl like. She followed us and made sure we had everything we needed! Staff is super friendly everything was yummy! So glad it’s close to work because we will be back!

Yes please! That is usually my reply to everything that has ever been suggested here… Bread pudding is maybe one of the best I have ever tried… and they have such a huge selection of food…(that changes daily) you can dowload the weekly menus online… and the deli sandwiches are delicious with fresh tasting bread…(you can taste the difference– wierd i know) or get one of their juicy burgers… haven’t tried the breakfast but i can’t imagine them being anything but good… only con– they are only open for breakfast and lunch… so hurry!

The lunches are decent for what it is. My breakfast today was good, except for the burnt bottom biscuits.

We all have a different algorithm for rating a restaurant. I try to balance décor, service, quality, ingenuity, flavor, and price. Mom’s is a cafeteria-style restaurant with a lot of «kitsch.» They want to be a country restaurant and, well, they succeed… if not with the hint that they’re being deliberate about trying to do that. It’s the same way that Austin-themed places emulate/imitate Austin. So, you grab a tray, choose a dish(there are only a few options), and pick some sides. I had the jambalaya with rice(a bit sweeter than I like), spinach and okra. At the end of the counter is Mom or her mom. They’re friendly folks. After you pay, there’s a buffet of onions, peppers, cornbread, jalapeño cornbread, and rolls(eat as much as you’d like). So, I doused the jambalaya with hot sauces and jalapenos… and it was pretty darned good. You know, I enjoyed my meal. I wasn’t blown-away by it being«really good…» but at $ 7-$ 8 for an entrée and two sides, it’s a pretty good deal. They give you Texas-sized portions. They’ll help you fill-out that bench seat in your pick-em-up truck. So, overall, although they excelled at nothing, they did a good job of providing a decent meal at a fair price. They’re friendly and the whole experience went-off without a hitch. I suspect that the next time we’re up there(we have a datacenter down the street) we’ll hit-up Mom’s again… and that’s just fine with me.

The word«MOM» for a restaurant’s name was enough to have my tummy growling. In attack mode, me and a couple of friends decided to wreck this place. The place is so not a deli at all. The inside is cozy filled with a country feel. With mini signs like«As long as there are tests there will be prayers in school.» Ha! And a tip jar w/a little note at each table that says«Tip. Love, Mom» The service is AWESOME! Food’s already made, displayed behind glass windows… and you just go down the line and tell them what you want. I asked this sweet older man behind the counter if the Taco Casserole had beans and he told me there’s none and offered me a sample… I LOVESWEETSERVICES and old people… :*) by the time we reached the end of the food line. there we found MOM at the register. Ok, I don’t know for sure. but seems like it. Food was amazing. They have a set menu, but they even offer their specialties… seems like they change out their specialty menu daily but on a weekly basis? Not sure. Had the Pancho Villa Taco Casserole with Beef, Chili, Sour Cream & Cheese and for $ 1.50 you can get their bread pudding w/condensed milk. OMG! To die for. ANDDD. it’s all you can eat dinner rolls, cornbread, jalapeño cornbread. and their mom’s sauce. It’s like a mustardy special sauce. YUMMMM! Their breakfast menu and spud menu looks Uh-Mazing, esp. their Greek Spud. w/Feta!!! DUDE! I would so go again! :) They’ve definitely got that mom-and-pops vibe going. Go chk it.
