Midwest Coney Island is despite it’s name a Houston based restaurant(not a chain) inspired the regional version of the coney popular in Michigan and an interesting alternative to James Coney Island. The menu is diverse and if you’re looking for a Coney fix, worth a try. The chili in particular is very good quality for fast food, and as long as you’re not health conscious the entrees are definitely a fun experience.

I love this place, in addition to the numerous hot dog choices and very tasty, very meaty Detroit style chili they have burgers, and wings, a few salads and stuff like nachos. What’s really amazing is they have breakfast served all day and the owners are always baking homemade cakes and cookies in the front case. Oh I almost forgot my favorite thing, as crazy as it sounds, they have amazing fish and chips. I recommend the Fish Dog or the Giant Philly Cheesesteak. The place is kind of small but they have plenty of tables inside and outside.

Unlike James Coney Island, Midwest does not specialize in hot dogs. Instead, there are more burger and sandwich options than hot dog options. This is cheap fast food, but has no drive-thru. It’s convenient for Best Buy(same parking lot), and it’s across the side street from Home Depot. Seating is limited to about 6 very small tables. It has free Wi-Fi. Menu includes Veggie Burger and several salads($ 7). Some basic, cheaper-than-Dennys breakfasts(open at 6). The hot dog and bun are plain, like what you might buy at the grocery store. The chili is not visibly greasy. The fries are half-inch variety(see picture) and are typical. It’s convenient, fast, cheap, clean, and decent enough taste, but nothing special.
