If you like eclectic, high-end furnishings and collectibles for your home, Mecox is it. Everything from unusual chandeliers and lamps, custom upholstered chairs and sofas, to unique décor and art in various forms of media. Think Kuhl-Linscomb on steroids. It’s definitely pricey(e.g. $ 600 for an accent pillow), but some of the things you’ll find are really one-of-a-kind(I just spotted a real life-size zebra skin rug the other day). They have a wide variety of things ranging from super antique all the way to Art Deco/modern, and everything in between. If you’re lucky to meet Hunter, he’s got great character and charisma, but I think he’s mostly doing custom decorating/design these days. I’ve bought several cool items such as local artist paintings, a chandelier made of tiger shells, an antique map of Houston before it was really Houston, a really, really, really heavy granite coffee table, a vintage poster, several chairs along the way, and plenty of Nest candles — in addition to a lot of interesting items for the past several years. Even an accent table upholstered in zebra with antelope legs(don’t judge) — yes, the zebra again. Alas, this place isn’t PETA-friendly I guess.

I will pay my fair share of the rent to live here, it is like walking into every foreign country you have not been to yet or you have been to and you want to take it home with you. As J. P. Morgan always said, «if you have to ask the price you can’t afford it», many items were not priced. Unique lighting especially if you have more than one home. Not a good idea to bring a child into the store with green stuff oozing out of the nose, or a spouse that wants to lay down on a couch with a bag of cheetos, fun for all, not sure why they don’t greet you at the door with a martini and a top hat.

This place is a rip-off. Found exact same lightening(Eric Cohler Parisian Floor Lamp) at circa lightening for $ 250 cheaper than Mecox, which calls the lamp Vicenza. This is just one item. I’ve priced many many other items and it seems Mecox is just another haughty third-hand furniture store marketing over-priced goods as antique and high-end. Rip.

i love the woodlands! that being said, there is a dearth of decent interior design retail in my beloved woodlands. … at mecox, you’ll discover interesting one of kind pieces, great finds, cutting edge design, transitional and timeless furnishings for home, garden and gifts. the buyers here are on point and current. the highland village location fronts westheimer and is in between west elm and z gallerie… both of which pale in comparison. my friend and i had great fun visiting with the staff: very friendly, unpretentious… which, unfortunately, makes me want to spend money. (rumour has it that persons calling themselves interior designers in the woodlands are coming to places such as this, harvesting great ideas, and selling them as their own. note to self: skip the self-styled suburban interior designers and chat up the boys at MECOX.)
