I ordered the huevos rancheros. Eggs were ordered over easy. Wayyy undercooked. I was a little grossed out, to be honest. Bacon and refried beans were cold. My friend was not that impressed with her meal either. I could’ve taken the food back but I was too tired to bother with it. The atmosphere is nice though, and the gentleman at the counter was friendly. Perhaps there are better dishes to try out on their breakfast menu, but I’d rather go to a place I already know.

Just ordered a grilled chicken sandwich and received a BLT hold the bacon. The chicken was thinner than the slice of tomato on top of it and looked like it was processed through a deli slicer. Extremely disappointing and overpriced for what I got. And in case anyone thinks it was because I under tipped, or didn’t, that wasn’t the case.

Why have I not heard of Lola’s before! Ordered the chicken and waffles which comes with either bacon or sausage but chose half and half. The bacon was crispy, sausage satisfying, waffles were Belgian style with whipped cream/blueberry/strawberry slices, and the chicken was hot/steamy/and boneless! You get two pieces of chicken that compliments the thick waffles. Would def recommend and would come back. I think the chicken and waffles here won me over from The Breakfast Club.

This is my update on Lola: things have gotten better. It’s still crowded, and the people monitoring the self-serve stations(i.e., for coffee refills, milk for coffee, etc.) need to step up a bit. But the breakfast of omelet, potatoes, sausage, toast was fine. I would like to be able to substitute fresh fruit for all those carbs, please! Outside, umbrellas have been added to the tables, so in the morning, it’s reasonably pleasant. It’s a bit noisy inside, so sitting outdoors for the hearing impaired might be a better choice, if you can take the heat.

Pretty solid spot for brunch. My fraternity brother was visiting from Iowa and he wanted to get some omelets. I had driven by Lola on numerous occasions(I pass it for church every Sunday) but I always forget to stop in. I’m not much into breakfast food, but this place hit all the things I was looking for in a brunch diner. Coffee: check(especially the Bayou Blend). I got the chocolate chip pancakes with bacon and my friend got the veggie omelet with bacon, potatoes, and wheat bread. The prices were competitive, the service was friendly, fun, and fantastic, and the food was good. Pancakes were light and fluffy and had good chocolate in them without being overbearing. I would definitely come back again to try their other(lunch and dinner) menus.

Cozy little diner in the heart of the heights. I’m mad because they’ve been keeping Lola’a a secret, lol! What a fantastic place to stop in for non stop breakfast and the best chicken and waffles in the area, hands down. I stopped in with a friend on 6⁄6 for late breakfast and lunch. He ordered the Chicken and waffles. While I couldn’t wait to try the pasta Frankie. OMG the chicken was seasoned to perfection and the waffles were light and fulffy. The pasta Frankie is by far one of the best chicken and pasta dishes I’ve ever eaten. That sauce is so warm and buttery, the veggies are fresh and the pasta is excellently seasoned. Can’t wait to visit again.

Dear Lola, Last Night was the night you u won my heart. A cute decorative little Diner good for a rainy night or a Sunny day. I’ve got a new spot in the Heights!!! Who’d have thought it! Me and the Honey came here to escape the rain and the 1 hour and 34 minute drive it was gonna take us to get home. Such a great Spot!!! Prices aren’t bad at all, it’s about what I’d expect these days. My honey had a hankering for some good chicken and waffles especially after reading all the reviews. BOYWASITGGOOOOOODDDDDTTTTT!!! Yes Good with a T, I kept it simple and had the First thing on the Menu the Breakfast Lola(I think) either way The creamy Cheese Grits with my scrambled eggs and that Applewood bacon DELICIOUS!!! Not to Mention the FRESHSQUEEZEDOJ… Just Go visit!!! The manager Clayton was very accommodating, THANKS !!! Do yourself a favor! Go!

I think me and fellow Unilocaler Sheniqua have found a reason to visit the Heights area. This place here is the bees knees. Now i have to be honest, i felt a little uneasy because i know the area isnt home to alot of black people but all of that dissipated once i had a conversation with a guy named Clayton. He greeted us and made us feel at home. He was very kind, warm, helpful and patient(i think he was the manger). He even cracked some jokes lol(thats always a plus with me). I absolutely love the décor of this place. Ive never liked the outside logo of a place as much as i liked this one. The colors are inviting to me and i knew the place had character inside when i noticed the front door handle was made out of a recycled telephone handle :). From the used pipe used as a foot rest at the bar to the writing across the ceiling, to the people walking in and out to pick up their order, i can tell this place is a neighborhood staple. The food was devine. By far the best chicken and waffles I… have…EVER…tasted. Even the fresh fruit toppings were a delight. The waffle was light and fluffy and complimented the chicken which was so… tender and flavorful… i mean… OMG!!! I had to stop eating just so i can have something to eat the next morning. And that freshly squeezed orange juice was so good that I would go there just for that lol. And to top it all off, when i told Clayton to give my compliments to the chef, the chef jokingly said you can compliment me with a $ 100 bill tip lolololol. Good food, company and jokes! Moral of the story: try new things… sometimes you’ll be pleasantly suprised. And whatever Lola wants… Lola gets ;). CHEERS!

I’m surprised their Unilocal rating isn’t higher because in the many times I’ve been to Lola I have never been disappointed. I love their chicken & waffles so much that I have ordered that a couple of times for dinner as well! You can order ahead and skip the line if you’re taking your food to go!

The breakfast is pretty top notch, and it’s served all day! Nothing like waking up(I mean just leaving from church) at 2pm on a Sunday and enjoying some delicious chicken and waffles. The breading on the chicken isn’t out of control crunchy or thick… It’s modest and delicious. The wet roast beef debris is also something unique to try. Tastes amazing, plus it forced me to be creative in my method of consumption. Which can be fun. The«can’t lose duo» for me here though is definitely chicken and waffles and/or the grilled cheese. They are also some pretty friendly people, so go… You’ll enjoy it.

This is my 2nd time coming to Lola. I honestly love this place and see myself coming back pretty frequently. My first visit I tried the chicken and fruit waffles. We got there right at 8am when they opened and we got our food pretty quickly. Pricing is fair for the portions. I ordered the chicken and waffles and also added 2 over easy eggs and bacon and sausage. I loved all of it! Even their breakfast sausage is unique. The chicken is seasoned very well, boneless and juicy and not over fried. I like the fact that they serve Katz coffee also. The chicken and waffles was so big that I took half to go and ate it if for dinner that night. It still tastes awesome hours later. On my 2 nd visit I tried the day after thanksgiving sandwich. It was good. I might not have it again but I did enjoy it. I like that the menu looks so tasty! I can’t wait to try something new next time!

Don’t go to this restaurant — just don’t. I want your parking spot and table inside: o) because it’s muy, muy bueno. American food — breakfast is served all day, which is hard to find in Houston. I’m stuck on their pancakes but the lunch & dinner items look very good. Good sized portions, enough to split. It’s popular & sometimes a line but I’ve never had to wait on a table. Enjoy!

I’ve driven past this place plenty of times but I’ve never really thought about stopping by because most of the reviews from the Unilocalers aren’t too favorrable — plenty of threes and a couple of twos. However, on one cloudy Sunday afternoon after I had done 9+ miles or running, Cherry A. invited me to join her for brunch here at Lola. I of course obliged. I arrived here a little past noon. There were plenty of parking spots in the lot so that was a good thing because I would hate having to drive around looking for parking. There is a huge parking lot right across the street, but there’s a big sign that that parking lot is for another establishment so I’m not sure if you could actually park there. Personally, I wouldn’t risk getting towed over brunch. There was a short line to place your order. Only one cashier to take the order during lunch hour so the line was moving slower than I would have liked. However, since I had company, the wait didn’t seem too bad. If I had been here by myself, it probably would have bugged me more. During the wait, the manager stopped and chatted with us for a little bit because he recognized Cherry. Apparently she used to come here on a weekly so some of the people working here were friendly with her. The guy taking the order was bubbly and pleasant. He made jokes as I was placing my order — Waffle and chicken with sausage. I wanted some orange juice(fresh squeezed) but they were all out. MAJORFAIL! I opted for water instead. Just like Unilocaler Leslie M. mentioned, you get your water from the same dispenser as the red gatorade so I, too found myself drinking pink water with lemonade. I think they should have a separate large container of water instead of making their patrons drink pink water. After waiting a little bit, the food came out. The waffle is a good portion and instead of getting your typical fried chicken wings for your typical chicken and waffle dish, you get two chicken breasts. Personally, I prefer chicken breasts to wings anyway so this didn’t bother me. However, I did see some reviews that mentioned that the chicken didn’t have that good of a flavor. It’s understandable because white meat isn’t as flavorful as dark meat; however, I found that the breading on my chicken was delicious. I also got two sausage links which I thought tasted pretty good. The downside? I wish they would give more blueberries and strawberries with the waffle. They gave so little that I could have ate all the berries in one scoop. Another downside? I wish they would have offered real maple syrup instead of Mrs. Butterworth’s. I know that real maple syrup is a tad more expensive, but you can always get your maple syrup from Costco. They have great deals over there. All in all, I had a brunch. I had good food, good company, and good service(although it was limited to when I was placing my order). I definitely wouldn’t mind coming back here for another brunch.

I’ve passed by this restaurant so many times and never knew how pretty it was inside. The natural lighting is spectacular. The interior is also decorated simple and nice– I love their colorful walls. You order at the register up front, then will be given a number, and the food will be delivered to your table! The line can be really long during the weekends for breakfast, but it goes by quickly! I ordered the chicken and fruit waffles– it tasted okay. Nothing amazing. The chicken was slightly over seasoned in my opinion; the chicken is also just a fried chicken breast– not chicken wings or thighs/drumsticks. The waffle was soft… :(and the syrup came from a little Mrs. Butter-Worth’s container. Overall the food is good, but not great. They also serve Katz coffee!

It’s a fun, family-friendly diner with your classic diner offerings – perhaps with a slightly more modern twist. I had their chocolate chip pancakes, which was a good, solid option with a slice of bacon. We found out after we paid at the counter that one of the items we’d ordered wasn’t available that morning, so it was a little frustrating to have to re-order and then wait for that person’s meal while ours got cold, but Lola’s was pretty nice about it.

Very cute, casual and spacious Lola got me because I wanted to try my first chicken and waffles in Texas, they were amazing! I admit I’m cautious of chicken breast because it’s often dry, but someone’s grandma taught them well!!! Super juicy, fresh, and crispy pieces of chicken came out super fast with a gigantic waffle covered in whipped cream and berries w/sausage links on da side. I made myself some lemonade with the complimentary lemons n azucar(been spending too much of dranks lately so I pulled a Macguyver on ‘em!) Babe thoroughly enjoyed her pot roast on sourdough w/side of greens. Bonus points for positive, colorful and inspirational words painted all over the ceiling :)

Great atmosphere that reminds me of a 60s diner. I tried the Carolina Sandwich($ 10), which is pulled pork with red onions and pickles. It came with a side of fries and would definitely order it again! A lot of art in the neighborhood, so I’d come back to walk around, try a few more options, and visit with friends.

I had been wanting to visit Lola for some time now. Luckily, we were able to visit for brunch, the perfect time. The line was out the door — a good sign — but it didn’t take us too long to order. Here, you order at the counter and then seat yourself. The décor and design is surprisingly hip and trendy for a diner. The food was beyond amazing. I had the chicken and waffle. The chicken was perfectly crisp and the waffle was soft, the perfect texture. They have katz coffee as well!

Cute little modern diner, nice décor looks like they were expanding their outside eating area. I ordered an underwhelming fried green tomato BLT to their defense I didn’t get the sun dried tomato aioli(makes me itch) that came with it so maybe that would have made it better, probably not, too much bread and arugula. The fried tomato was not seasoned most likely frozen didn’t taste fresh the bacon was good. But what stood out was the sweet potato fries those are what save it for me some what. I would give this place another try and order something different. P. S. My mom ordered the seared tuna salad she said it was good(her usual)

Love it. One of the best breakfast places in Houston. Pancakes rock here. Expert hint: bacon on anything here needs to be extra crispy. Aloha sandwich is good but needs more pineapple. Great coffee. Never left here unhappy. What more can I say!

Lola is good. I like it a lot. It’s not outstanding, but it’s good. Lola is a safe choice. Want a solid club sandwich or a standard plate of scrambled eggs, bacon, and toast? Lola’s there for you. I feel like I can easily make most of the food Lola serves in my own home, for cheaper, but then I’d have to do dishes. It can get pretty crowded on the weekends, which can be annoying and sort of not worth it. But when it’s not crowded, like I said, it’s a solid choice. They do have some of the best sweet potato fries I’ve ever eaten, but I usually get breakfast. I love all the natural light from the many windows! So, I guess I’d say I am usually open to eating at Lola’s, if a friend suggests it or we’re close by, but I’m never really craving it.

Came here the day after New Year’s with a friend who knew just the spot for my chicken and waffles craving. We entered through the cute telephone booth of a door to many faces of breakfast cheer. It was busy! The line was long, but moved fairly quickly… not bad at all. We ordered at the counter and were given a number to place on the table of our choice(good luck finding that). There was no wait service, other than the guy who brought us our plates, and he was kind and a bit humorous, which is always a treat. My waffles were wonderful, but I was slightly disappointed with my chicken, yet too hungry too swap it out or make a complaint. It was kind of tough and seemed it may have been too wet prior to applying the flour, which was not adhered to the chicken well; slight separation. It was also a surprising Cajun-like seasoning which was a first for me in this dish. Not bad. My friend ordered French toast and sausage and enjoyed it greatly. I would try this place again since I don’t believe I received their best. You’d probably enjoy Lola’s.

Lola’s is okay. I had some time to burn while in The Heights, and decided to stop in for lunch mainly because I didn’t want to go to a chain and eat. For those that have never been here, this place is just different, different, DIFFERENT in the most subtle ways. First off, there isn’t any waiter/waitress service. With that, there is nothing whatsoever on your table. You basically have to go to the front and order, then take your number back to the table. If you want napkins or straws, you’ll have to go toward where the bathrooms are located and pick them up. No big deals, yet if you expected this to be a diner(it looks like one from the outside), you will be disappointed. The food is actually pretty decent. I only had a wrap with fries, so it wasn’t prepared badly. I really enjoyed the customer service of the cashier + other employees that are genuinely cool, if you are able to hear what they have to say. I dig the 80s music, but it is loud as sh*t in here if you aren’t used to it. You shouldn’t have to almost yell your order to the cashier when he is taking it. Parking is okay here. A little tight, yet I get that impression at a lot of places in The Heights. I do love the fact that the community boards that advertise a TON of stuff in the Houston area are actually where the bathrooms are located. It sucks in a way, since there is a contingent of folks that don’t like using public bathrooms and will nonetheless miss all of the cool Houston stuff that’s advertised. Altogether, I’m willing to try Lola once again for a breakfast item at some point in the future.
