Great food and great place to eat on the south side of Houston. Bandeja paisa is delicious.

Place is horrible! Food is too bland and tasted old. I don’t recommend this place to anyone. I rather stick with Punta Cana, that place never fails.

We went to celebrate our 44th. anniversary. We have NO regrets and we will return. The menu is bi-lingual but the co-owner Julio Caesar will help you with your choices and explains what you are ordering. We shared an order of mofungo which was excellent and heavy in garlic which came with 2 large pieces of fried pork. My wife had the rice with gandulues with pastele. She wasn’t pleased with the pastele. I had the same rice and we both enjoyed it. I had a very tasty portion of stewed beef. The portions were very large which is a good thing when the food was so good and tasty. Beware that everything comes out hot and don’t be in a rush as they are cooking it fresh. There were several platters that were not available till the weekend. I really wanted the goat dish. The restaurant was super clean. We walked away stuff and satisfied.

Food is great. I’ve been there about two times now and both times my food was good. First time I had the Mofongo de chicharrón. Second time I ordered Dominican rice and beans with stewed chicken. The restaurant is small and plain, but I go there for the food. It’s definitely worth trying! I believe they have Dominican, Puerto Rican Colombian and Mexican food.

Ok spot for Puerto Rican/Dominican food. The owner is very nice and makes sure you are satisfied with your food and is happy to explain everything that is on the menu. They are not from Puerto Rico instead he told me the cook is from Santo Domingo and they add their own little flare to their food and recipes. I tried the Mofongo a few times and found it to be a bit dry and never had it with the Chicharron which they include in it. The Shrimp Guisado was good and the sauce is what helps give the the meal flavor. Its in an old strip like mall next to a school so the area is not too appealing. The times we have gone to the restaurant it has always been empty. They make the food fresh once you order so expect to wait. The last time we visited we tried the fried Yucca and the chicharon de pollo but there was nothing spectacular about it. I expected crispy chunks of fried chicken. Instead I got a fried dry drum stick and a fried thigh. The thigh must of come from a very skinny chicken because the layer of meat on it was just as thin as skin. To be honest I could probably make all those items on the menu – better. But we really wanted to try some mofongo. I have had mofongo in Puerto Rico… the mofongo would be moist, garlicy and in the center a well filled with seafood and a tasty sauce. What I had here was ok but not remarkable.

The food it’s good & fresh but be careful they put a lot of garlic in the mofongo… the restaurant location it’s a little sketchy but it’s not dangerous at all. I wish have this place closer to my home.

Wow this place is HORRIBLE! These people do not know how to make mofongo… which is insane considering the name of the restaurant. It’s extremely dry and barely has any meat and has no flavor. Honestly no self respecting Dominican or Puerto rican will be caught dead in the place. The other reviews on this place are great which is wierd… the food isn’t authentic and I doubt that the owners really know the cultures they are trying to represent. Such a disappointment, save yourselves the trouble and don’t bother with this place.

Delicious! I had the churasco with mofongo, son had the chicken breast with garlic sauce and hubby had the shrimp in garlic sauce with yellow rice… which looks more orange than yellow. Both of their plates came with plantains. Everything was tasty! It does take a little bit to get your food cuz they make it when you order. The waitress speaks very little English… thank God I took and retained spanish in high school and college! It’s a small little hole in the wall but very good! Will definitely be back to try other dishes!

This is a goldmine! Found this place by accident because we went to El Caldero Boricua but it was close, and we were craving Puerto Rican food. This place is AMAZING! Authentic Latin food, not only Puerto Rican, but Colombian, Dominican, and Cuban. The portions are great and very VERY good prices. We met the owner, excellent service overall, we will come back very soon!

Restaurant area and bathrooms were clean. Server was very welcoming. Had mofongo with Carne Frita, white rice and red beans. The food presentation was great however I was disappointed with the flavor… there were no seasonings and as a result, very little flavor. I would go back and try something different.

I came here the other day to check this place out since I never had Dominican/Puerto Rican food before. I ordered the grilled chicken with mofongo and boy was it delicious! The owner was really nice and informative about the menu since I didn’t know what to get. Nice little restaurant if you’re looking for some good food! I’ll be back: D

Good place to eat, friendly atmosphere, Their food for me its not that great but it is definitely good. I had their Mofongo and I had better ones but it is a great alternative for a plan B me as a Puerto Rican but for Americans its a excellent alternative if you want to try something different other than Tacos and Mashed potatoes. On the other side I had their Alcapurias and they are amazing on how good their are. Overvall its a good place to go 3.5 stars from me personally

Comida deliciosa y siempre fresca! Not only they have great prices, the food is delicious and they do serve A LOT! which is great. I’m a huge fan of the Carne Frita Encebollada and Tostones con Mojo de Ajo, but all the other plates we’ve tried had been as delicious as this one. They also offer Dominican food so you can taste the Caribbean at it’s best. We moved from California to Houston just a few months ago, and after all those years living in SoCal where there’s not that much Puertorrican food La Casa Del Mofongo a sido mi salvacion!(^_^) been here more that 5 times already and will keep going many more. The owner(or manager) is very friendly as well as all their staff. Absolutely recommend this place.

Was in Houston visiting friends and was yearning for some dominican food. What would I do without Unilocal? This restaurant has really good food. I ordered the sancocho which was enough for two people! I also ordered the locrio de pollo and of course, the mofongo with chicharron de cerdo. Both the locrio and mofongo came with side salads and maduros. Everything was good and will return when back in town.

Being from PR is hard to find places that have our favorites in out side of town. Heard about La Casa Del Mofongo, and gave it a try on Sunday afternoon. It was completely empty when we arrived, service was good, and they cooked everything from scratch. Everything came to our table at the same time. We had mofongo with creole shrimp, with garlic shrimp and with fried pork. The consistency of the plantain in the mofongo was authentic. Soft, and well seasoned. For alimony it felt we were home. The owner came to check on us a couple of times, and spoke to us before we left. I will come back to try the Colombian food as well! Thank you!

The only place in the area if you want to have Puerto rican food. The food was truly authentic with the mofongo and chicharon also homemade salsa. I didnt care for the stale chips. Excellent service by the owner checked on us several times and even gave us free tickets for a salsa event. Be prepared staff doesnt speak any english.
