Came here after Korea House BBQ buffet and we got the green tea and mixed fruit. Both were delicious but I wish my girl would have gotten the mango instead.

Right on the side of H-Mart, this small bakery is a great find. My friend and I went on a Wednesday night after having dinner at Korean Noodle House. It seems like that’s the thing to do, because we saw the girls who were eating at the table beside us at Korean Noodle House exit Koryo Bakery as we were going in. With that said, it’s a great dessert place to indulge your sweet tooth after dinner. We got the mango bingsoo which was awesome. Freshly made(we could hear the owner grind the ice in the back) and full of flavor. For $ 8, it came in a big bowl for 2 people with ice cream, mango bits and mochi. The ice itself was mango flavored, and it wasn’t just mango syrup drizzled over. So delicious. The owner is friendly, nice and patient as we explored our options for which bingsoo to get. It was very quiet and we were the only ones there. It seems like the bulk of their business is from making wedding cakes, there are many on display inside. More people should check out Koryo Bakery– I’d come back to try out more flavors! Bingsoo is the best, especially when we start entering the summer months.

So I’ve had shaved ice at Juice Box and was kind of expecting a similar experience. The place is right next to the Asian market –H Mart. It’s fairly small. When you first walk in there’s a bunch of sweets in the middle isle for purchase as you head towards the register. We looked around but didn’t buy any of them. On the wall to your right there are a couple of pictures and a small menu behind the register. We got the watermelon shaved ice and mango(we wanted the strawberry but he ran out). When our order came out we were expecting what we saw in the pictures or at least something similar to what others posted here on Unilocal. No Bueno for presentation! Mango shaved ice — wayyyyy too sweet. The ice had a mango flavor, there were pieces of cut up mango, mini mochi balls, mango purée and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The mango flavor definitely there and definitely overwhelming. Watermelon shaved ice — presentation was lot better but also wayyyy too sweet. There was also red bean in this one. Really unexpected.

Koryo bakery had quite a strong and strange smell upon entering. & it definitely was not the smell of vanilla or butter. Aside from the strange smell, I was greeted kindly by the owners of the bakery. There were several products displayed on the shelf. Many of them were mini cakes, breads, and mini pound cakes. The ingredients are not the best in their products. Most of the baked goods here are made with margarine. Aside from the ingredients, I ended up getting the the small almond cake. It wasn’t bad but it definitely was not my favorite. I may visit Koryo Bakery again in the near future, but there are a few matters that should be changed.

This is my second time here, and my go-to dessert would be the green tea patbingsu. Koryo Bakery is a small cute bakery own by a Korean couple and it has a homely feeling. I have not have a chance to try their pastries but I will try on my next visit. I also notice that they had cakes as well. This bakery is off to the side of Hmart, next to the Chinese restaurant and dry cleaner. Pretty empty when I came but it was peaceful. The wife who took my order was friendly. The patbingsu is different from desserts you would find in Chinatown. Glad to have a change every now and then.

I ordered the green tea because there were many people recommending it and most of the reviews on Unilocal stated that it was really good. I ventured to try it out and I was surprised by what I tasted. I love that the green tea ice cream wasn’t overly sweet and that there were red beans that added to the sweetness. The fruits were sweet and plentiful and I love that the ice was also a green tea flavor, but it was hard to chewy because they were crystallized. Overall experience: I enjoyed coming here and I definitely will be coming back when I’m in the area. It was so refreshing and not overly sweet.

I’ve been going to this place for like 10 years and it’s def my favorite! The sweet potato cake, mocha cake and the shaved ice(green tea and in-jer-mi) are my favorites! I had my wedding cake ordered from here and it was beautiful!

I’ve been to Hmart many times, but only recently discovered this place through Unilocal.I decided to try it one day after chowing down at Korean Noodle House. It was aight. FOOD(3⁄5): I got the green tea shaved ice/bingsoo. Maybe my expectations were too high, but I was a bit disappointed. The green tea ice cream was not smooth at all and had large ice crystals throughout(evidence of freezer burn or ice cream being left out to melt, then refroze). I heard that the red bean one is better, so I’ll try that next time. On to the good part! The fruits were fresh. Shaved ice was in uniform bits/clumps. There was even some matcha powder sprinkled on the whole thing, along with peanut powder(which you should ask them to omit if you’re allergic!). My favorite part was the mochi bites: soft, yet chewy and lightly sweet bites of delight. They definitely pulled the dessert together, imo. The portions are big enough to share with one other person, especially after a meal. Coming in at $ 7 per bowl, that’s pretty cheap if you split it. AMBIANCE/SERVICE(4⁄5): Very cute and well-lit little shop tucked away next to Hmart. The owners are a nice old Korean couple. There’s apparently free Wi-Fi, so you could come here and do work or just to catch up with friends. I assume that their baked goods are popular because the were a lot of Korean ahjummas coming in to just buy baked stuff. I’ll give them a try next time. VERDICT(3.5÷5): Maybe I came on a bad day, so I will reupdate my review accordingly after I revisit.

Love the atmosphere. Cozy and the workers are very friendly and helpful. Been here quite a few times for the shaved ice and some of the pastries. Would recommend to anyone. Especially those looking for a refreshing dessert. My favorite is the green tea.

I visited Koryo Bakery because I wanted to try bingsoo, a Korean shaved ice dessert. As I entered, I sensed the place was clean and peaceful. Just another group was gathered at a table enjoying dessert. There were few shelves with baked goods many of which look reminiscent to Chinese ones. The stock was rather diminished, so I gather these baked goods are somewhat popular. Just a note: the bakery can bake wedding cakes and they appear to be quality cakes from observing that the business relied more on quality than quantity. On to the bingsoo. Flavored ice creams to come along with bingsoo were strawberry, red bean and green tea. I ordered just one green tea bingsoo and split it with my friend. I may have been able to eat one by myself, but I just had a filling dinner at Korean Noodle House. Overall, all the ingredients came together to make a unique, tasty, and cooling dessert. The ice cream had a neat green tea flavor. The shaved ice was fine and evenly clumped. There was a chewy element added from mochi. Also, below the ice cream was red bean sauce and chopped mango, strawberries and watermelon were piled on the edges. I am considering coming back to try some of the baked goods!

Omg Unilocalers! Thank you for putting Koryo in my radar! I absolutely love their shaved ice dessert! I never had Korean shaved ice before and all I want to do is go to Korea just to have more! This is the ultimate summer treat. I ordered the green tea shaved ice because I love the flavor of green tea. The dessert as stated is not cloyingly sweet; there is a little tartness from the small pieces of strawberries. The textures in your mouth is something you either will love or hate. There is something chewy, smooth, fresh, and«beanie.» Yes, I said beanie, a lot of Asian desserts put beans into desserts just for the contrasts of textures and it tastes great. The shaved ice had just the right ratios of flavors and textures. Soo good! I’m just worried I am going to have one everyday!

Thanks to Groupon. I discovered this hidden jewel about a year ago! I’ve been here several times, multiple times a month. I highly recommend this place to all my friends and family. I love their fresh fruit ice shaving ice cream(I’m not sure if that’s what its even called but I love it!) The owners are very familiar with me and know what i want when I arrive because I come here all the time. Not only do they serve shaved ice. ice cream. but the owner and his wife also make cakes! Their coffee is a great, ice cream is great, customer service is awesome. love this place! I have nothing bad to say about Koryo Bakery.

I’ve been here twice in the last week, yeah, I admit it. I’m completely obsessed with Koryo Bakery. Tucked away next to HMart, I had no idea this place even existed. Thanks to Unilocal I discovered this amazing little shop. The inside is clean and minimalistic. There are a few tables there and it’s never been packed the last two times I’ve been. Good for groups. The menu is really limited, but they have an assortment of cakes and breads available. They also sell cakes for special occasions. The shaved Ice here is absolutely amazing. Light, refreshing and just perfectly sweet. I’ve never had pat bing su before, but I was in the area eating korean food so I figured I should get dessert too. They offer a few different flavors,(green tea, strawberry, coffee, watermelon, mixed fruit) I’ve only had the green tea and strawberry so far, the shaved ice wasn’t too chunky, and topped with red beans, fruit, mochi and a scoop of icecream drizzled with condensed milk. YUM! I’ll definitely be back many many times.

We came here on a Sunday night, after finishing off a really good birthday dinner. I knew it was near the H-Mart, but I didn’t know what time they closed. We pulled into a front parking spot, and it wasn’t until we got to the door that we saw they closed at 6pm. However, even though the time was 5:46pm, the staff was very, very amicable and helpful. They have a small array of breads and mandu(dumplings) filled with red beans, green tea, and I think black beans as well. I didn’t really get a good look because we were focused on getting a cake. The woman at the counter recommended a Mocha cake – and I am really glad she did. Albeit not being a huge fan of coffee in any form, it was light, airy, not-too-sweet… and really, really good. It was also $ 20, which was a steal in my book. I felt bad for asking about the shaved-ice posters on the right-hand walls, since they were obviously about to close, but the employee was really insightful and didn’t mind going into all the details of the pahtbingsoo. I think she may have been the owner, too, since there was no one else in there working(that I could see of, anyways). I’ll be back here, someday, definitely. Knowing Houston weather, the shaved ice sounds like it would be just the thing to cool someone down.

You know… I never really thought much of this place before. My mom would just pick up interesting pastries and bring them home for us. I enjoyed most of them. Other times I couldn’t help but think… «Who in the world thought this was a good idea?» Anyway, for nearly a decade and a half, I’ve been getting what my mom brings to me and have never once stepped foot into a Koryo Bakery. This summer after watching a Korean drama that made patbingsoo look really delicious, I saw that Koryo was selling fresh fruit shaved ice(patbingsoo). Talk about perfect timing! The weather was getting ridiculously hot and when the temperature hit its first over 100 degree index, I found myself headed to Koryo after church. I’ve had patbingsoo before it was never good. Rough chunks of ice with snow cone syrup and canned fruit? Bleh! But Koryo offered something completely different from what I was expecting. Sure, It had the same chunky ice and fruit… but it also had small chunks of mochi, your pick of ice cream(the green tea was delicious) and a nice and creamy syrup. It was the perfect way to cool down! And when the green tea ice cream started to melt into the crushed ice, it created one of the more fantastic slurries I’ve tasted. They have a coffee patbingsoo option as well. No fruit! Just crushed ice and coffee with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. YUM! (Doe this review seem familiar? That is because I’ve had to write it before for their previous location)
