Justice of the Peace Precinct 5 Place 1

Haven’t had many experiences at courthouses but this one wasn’t too bad. Caught a little traffic case and came and knocked it out within 30 minutes. I also got my marriage license here and that took no time if you’re looking to get your marriage license.

Got a ticket for speeding. Yes, I felt like a felon even if it’s a traffic violation.
The parking lot is as bad as a used car lot on the side of the road. Packed and cramped where you may need to circle around to find a space. I can’t imagine it being later in the day cause I was there at 9:30am and it felt like a Black Friday.
Good thing is if you get a ticket. You can go to office suite 4 instead of waiting in the court room to be called then wait some more til they decide what to do with you next.
Right when you enter the front of the building, go left.
Just get in line at suite 4. Look up over the doors. The numbers are there. On the right wall, wait in line on the left wall. Don’t block doors while you wait in line or you just look like a bouncer or in the way.
Decide if you want to plead guilty (pay the fine-​cost depends on your violation), not guilty (schedule a court date 8 months from now, depends how backed up the system is), or no contest (pay abt $ 114 for court cost plus defensive driving cost plus show dl and insurance)
The lady at the window/​counter is nice and she will tell you the options.

I had to go here by 9AM today to get a traffic ticket dismissed (not my fault the officer had the wrong name, address, license #, and date of birth wrong when he printed out the ticket and handed it to me). The ticket said to «appear in court’ so I thought it was in the courtroom until the bailiff mentioned that traffic citations go to the traffic window. Luckily the line for traffic cases wasn’t that long. I was in and out within 15 minutes.
It’s nice that a good sized park is located right next to this courthouse and that even though the parking lot may look full, there’s always a spot you park if you drive around.

So it actually wasn’t bad. I thought with the rain and it being so early I’d be the only one in line, turns out there were other people who rationalized like me –_​_​-​. The line moved rather quickly until I got to the front, but when I was finally seen, my rep who took care of me was surprisingly cheerful. She made the whole transaction better than what I thought it would be. Needless to say, I can now say my car is a Texan, I’ve procrastinated long enough, and I’m glad it’s over with. Now I just gotta take DPS lines… some other day…

I was here for jury duty and it was a fairly good experience but there are a few things that you should know and be aware of.
Pros:
+They called us in at 1p so we didn’t have to wait around all morning to see how many cases were actually going to court.
+Judge Russ Ridgway is really friendly and appreciates his jurors.
+Free parking!
Cons:
+Lobby area is the only place to wait around for jury service which has minimal seating.
+Once you are invited in the court room your cell phones must be off so BRING A BOOK!
Since I didn’t get picked I was there for a total of 30 minutes past my call time of 1p :)

There is not a lot of lobby space at this location. Many people who came through the front door had to look around for several minutes before they could figure out where they needed to be. All of the instructions on where to go or what do do were printed on 81/​2X11s and plastered all over the walls and doors.
I was there for jury duty and there were at least 50 of us all packed standing in the lobby area outside the courtroom.
So happy I didn’t get picked this time :)

Went to file a small claims suit and the it went smoothly. The worker at the civil window was very helpful and answered all of my questions. Treat them well and they’ll recipricate. No real seating arrangements in the waiting area. Not a lot of standing space either.
