The beginner class is really great. Michael explains everything in a n easy way. I’d recommend this class to everyone who wants to learn more about photography and doesn’t want to use the automatic mode anymore! Definitely 5 stars!

Great class for beginners. Michael had really good tips for taking photos, using equipment, etc. I would definitely recommend this class for anyone who is interested in photography. Also, great refresher course for some of the more experienced.

I took beginner photography class with Michael. I learned a lot in a much simpler way. I have tried online classes but never got so much from virtual than this class. Instructor was extremely friendly and knowledgeable, open to answer questions. I highly recommend it.

Taking the beginner’s photography at Isla Studio is probably the best money I’ve ever spent(especially with the Groupon)! I wanted to start taking nice photos for vacation but I’m definitely one of those people that is stuck in the AUTO mode because I don’t understand all the other functions of my camera. This class was awesome! It’s all theory and nothing hands-on which was the only downfall, but Michael taught us all the important concepts that contribute to the success(or failure) of your picture — ISO, shutter speed, aperture, different modes, rule of thirds, etc. He talked in detail about all topics and showed examples of how a picture would look if you changed one of the three factors. This class had a majority of people that owned a DSLR, but I think it would still be helpful for someone with a point and shoot. During break and after class, Michael answered all questions and showed everyone on their own camera how to navigate the modes. After class, you will receive an email with the PowerPoint presentation for future reference. I’ve been using the concepts I’ve learned to take better pictures on my vacation to St. John(which is where I’m writing this review), and I haven’t used AUTO mode at all! Isla Studio has a location in San Francisco, and I plan to take one of their photo walk sessions next year!

I went to a class today and left there feeling like it was well worth my money, especially with it being a Groupon deal. I learned so much that I wasn’t able to from books that I bought on the subject. The teacher was really knowledgable and he gave me some great tips on food photography. I feel way more confident with my DSLR camera and with photography in general. I highly recommend this class.

my husband and i are going on a safari and purchased a new camera for our trip. we thought taking the class would help us understand our camera so that we would not have to use the automatic setting all the time. the teacher in the class was wonderful. he was very organized and easy to understand. people had brought their own cameras to class and he made sure that when he was teaching something, everyone could do the steps on their own equipment. the 3 hours flew by and after the class was over, the teacher stayed afterwards to answer anyones questions for another 45 minutes. i left the class feeling i had a good start on learning to use my new camera. one of the other participants in the class said that he had taken another photography class before and this one was far and away better. i would highly recommend the isla studio class.

I took photography in college but never really understood the interplay of focal length, speed and how I wanted my photographs to look. Lindsay’s easily remembered instruction made it all clear. She uses great photographs to contrast and compare so that there is constantly changing eye candy to help cement the concepts in my brain. A fun time that made my expensive camera finally the useful tool I had hoped it would be when I bought it.

Took a class with Lindsay this morning in Houston. Wow. She is so dynamic and clearly passionate and knowledgeable and it is obvious that she enjoys teaching others the ins and outs of photography. I have taken several other classes prior to this one, and I can honestly say this was the most relaxed, yet informative of them all. Lindsay was happy to answer each and every question, and gives each student her time and attention and knows all different brands of cameras. Highly recommend to any beginner who has a camera they don’t know how to use, who constantly shoots in «Auto». I look forward to taking other classes as they come available. Great job Isla Studio!
