Houston B-​Cycle is SO fun, easy and inexpensive.
My wife and I enjoyed 24 hour access to bikes across the downtown area for only $ 5 (all tax and fees included)
The catch is you only get a 60 minute session at a time, before having to return it to a location. But the plus side is you can literally return it to any of their locations for 1 second and then rent them again (as long as not all the bikes are rented at that location, and someone isn’t waiting for a bike). If you go over the 60 minute session, It’s 2 more bucks for an extra 30 minutes.
Such a great addition to the area, and so much fun. Check them out next time you’re in the area!

This would be such a great idea if it were in ANY place other than Houston, where cycling in most areas, and especially in this area is extremely dangerous. For the most inexperienced riders, it can be deadly. BEFORE taking a bike, one should note that there are hardly any dedicated bike lanes in the area, and the two that do exist, end abruptly, leaving the rider in the middle of dangerous traffic. Also, the infrastructure in the Montrose area is deplorable, which means very bad streets loaded with ruts and potholes, making for a not-​so-​pleasant ride. Houston would like to be a bike-​friendly city, but it just isn’t. Only the most experienced riders should even think about riding on the streets. For all others, Harris County provides some great hike and bike trails along Buffalo Bayou in Terry Hershey Park and throughout George Bush Park.

This one is my favorite bike share station so far. It’s right in front of the Freed Library and Eatsie Boys, making it a great station for students to get to for studying. It’s not too hard to find street parking over by St. Thomas, especially at nights or on the weekends, or you can use the garage and have Eatsie Boys or Black Labrador validate your parking for you.
From here you can ride to the Menil or around St. Thomas (check out the medieval labyrinth over by the Chapel of St. Basil) or you can hoof it to Rice University and the bike station at Hermann Park. You can also get to the Museum District from here (there’s a station by the MFAH that you can drop your bike off at) or get eats in Montrose (there’s another station in the other direction right in front of Underbelly).
