What can I say? I would give this place more stars if I could. Anybody looking to work offshore I would highly recommend coming to NASA. The drills were fun and intense while the instructors were top notch. Would love to come back again when it’s time to renew.

I recently trained with the Astronauts at the NASA Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory(Sonny Carter Training Facility)! Actually, my recent BOSIET(Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training) class was at one corner of the pool, while we got to watch 2 Astronauts train in 40 feet deep water below. If you look at a couple of the pictures, you can see them on the pool deck in the background. I was there because I had been asked to be part of an Audit team that might go offshore and this is one of the things that is required before I can do this. During my most enjoyable 3 day class, I learned about TEMPSC(Totally Enclosed Motor Propelled Survival Craft) and other ways to escape off a ship, HUET(Helicopter Underwater Egress Training), and various other survival techniques including emergency first aid, fire fighting, and use of a gas mask in a dark and smokey building. The most challenging(and satisfying) aspect was being held upside down under water and having to escape to the surface. As such, 2 songs kept running through my head during this time: «Staying Alive» by the Bee Gees and«I Will Survive» by Gloria Gaynor. The Class was presented by Hi-Con Training and the instructors were super and amazing to listen to and follow. And yes, I felt safe the entire time. My fellow classmates were pretty cool too, and the whole experience was a real eye opener to a world that I previously had no clue.
