I never think high quality eating experience when I see«all you can eat buffet», and Chin Tao certainly isn’t going into my memories as the best Chinese I’ve ever had, but honestly, it’s not bad. I’ve eaten here quite a few times and the place is a bit of a hole in the wall, but it’s clean and while the staff can’t be classified as warm and fuzzy, neither are they rude. The large lunch crowd forces them to keep fresh hot food coming out, so nothing I’ve eaten here has ever had that«hours old» syndrome you so often get at buffets. It’s not a huge buffet with a million things on it, but it’s got a respectable selection for a small place like Chin Tao. Right downtown on Travis almost a block above the police HQ. Can get quite busy at lunch, but they move folks in and out fairly quickly. Needless to say, being downtown, Chin Tao doesn’t have their own parking. They have lunch specials for a decent price. There is an ala carte menu, but I’ve never gotten anything other than the buffet. It’s just solid, middle of the road Chinese food. Not great(when have you ever eaten at a spectacular buffet?), but nothing wrong with it either. I’d be happy to go back anytime. PS: The name seems to periodically wobble back and forth between«Chin Tao Chinese Restaurant» and«Travis Chinese Restaurant».
