Nothing to be impressed by. Came here around 3 pm on a Saturday. Host was nowhere to be seen, so my friend & I seated ourselves. I noticed upon sitting down that even though the place was pretty slow, there were 3 – 4 tables left uncleaned. And they remained that way for several minutes. I felt like the music should’ve been turned up a little more, the room just felt too quiet and hushed since not that many people were there. Our waiter wasn’t bad, pretty laidback which I prefer over the in-your-face-let-me-get-your-life-story servers. They have smaller menu options to choose from before 5 pm. I ordered chips and queso for $ 8.75(a rip off, imo) and a draft beer. My friend ordered a grilled cheese with fries. The beer I intentionally wanted was no longer available, but our waiter had a good secondary choice to offer. The food wasn’t bad. But, there was nothing that stood out to me about the meal that would compel me to eat here again. I think I make a better grilled cheese anyway. There, I said it. :x

Our friend in the Houston area wanted to come here for his birthday meal. He told us that it was his favorite restaurant, so obviously we had to oblige. You can’t miss this place, there’s a Big Red Chicken statue out front. It has small parking lot, and the restaurant itself is a lot smaller inside than I thought it would be. There are maybe 40 – 50 seats. We got there at about 4:30 in the afternoon, so we didn’t have to wait at all. We did however come at an in between menu time. We missed the lunch menu, and were too early for the dinner menu. There was a snack menu, so we ordered some appetizers to hold us over until the 5PM start of the dinner menu. We started with the cheddar biscuits with bacon jam, and OMG that bacon jam is like nothing I’ve ever tasted before in my life. My boyfriend wanted to drink shots of us, and we all tried to get every last bit of it on our biscuits, knives, fingers, etc. We also ordered the deviled eggs. These deviled eggs were topped with bacon and a fried oyster and buffalo sauce. The deviled eggs were ok, nothing to write home about. The fried oyster on top was good though. I probably wouldn’t order it again. I’d definitely try out the cheddar biscuits though. Finally, we were able to order our dinner entrees. YaY! I opted for the pork chop on a bed of cheese grits topped with a sunny side egg. The other two in my party got the chicken fried steak. The pork chop was perfectly grilled, juicy and tender. The seasoning had a hint of sweetness that really brought out the fresh flavor of the pork chop. I’m not normally a huge fan of grits, but these cheesy grits were a perfectly pair for the pork chop, and the egg was just icing on the cake. I was too consumed by my pork chop to really get a taste of the chicken fried steak, but the guys really enjoyed it. It looks like the menu here changes quite often, so it’s really difficult to gauge everyone’s reviews. My experience was pretty good, and I’d definitely eat here again if I was in town.

I got the chance to come here with my family on a Sunday afternoon, and I think everyone was pleasantly surprised! The patio was nice and tucked away, AND dog friendly! Love that. The inside was smaller than I expected, but still sat a fair amount of people. Plus they do have a spacious bar where you could also sit and eat! The décor and ambience is fun, trendy, and laid back. The menu is what surprised us the most because there wasn’t a whole lot on there! I remember seeing so many great pictures of all these entrees and half of them weren’t on the menu. For those who haven’t been there, be advised they have items that change every week, and a different menu for lunch and dinner! We started with the Chips and Queso. I wouldn’t say anything about theirs went above and beyond but it was good! For our main course, I got the Chicken and Biscuit with egg, my boyfriend got the Lamb Burgr(special of the day), my mom got the Grilled Cheese, and my dad got the BRC Burger. Both of the men said their burgers were great! My mom liked her grilled cheese but didn’t think it was all that, and I thought the Chicken and Biscuit with egg was the best item at the table. It was delicious and huge. I could only finish half! I think the best tasting stand alone item was their bacon jam, which is probably why they include it on so many dishes! Overall I enjoyed trying out BRC and the food was good… I just don’t know if I would consider this a first choice going forward! Definitely worth a visit though!

I originally came to BRC about 4 years ago, so a lot has changed here since my initial visit. Unfortunately, not for the better. The menu has significantly shrunk, the beers are a little pricey compared to other gastropubs in the area, and the service is always slow when I come. The first time I came here, I was blown away by the chicken biscuits. These babies were served up on hot, steaming, homemade buttery biscuits with bacon jam and jalepenos. Can we just stop for a moment to dream of the melty cheddar cheese with the sweet jam and spicy pepper combo. This has to be one of the greatest inventions ever! My husband used to order the lamb burger, which he says is one of the better burgers he has had in town. However, due to the menu change, I am not sure that you can order that anymore. The environment is nice, and the patio is always crowded and fun to relax on during a Sunday brunch or afternoon. We have brought the dogs a few times, and the wait staff always assists with providing them water and treats. Hopefully this place will bring back our menu favorites, so we can come back!

This is great spot, I was only there for a work lunch but the beer selection looks awesome. I orderd the chicken sandwich on cheddar biscuits with bacon jam. Fries doesn’t come with but I still had an whole biscuit left over. Oh did I mention that tthe chicken sandwich comes with two cheddar biscuits. The bacon jam is a mix of sweet salty bacon goodness. I will be back to try out the rest of their offertings

What a disappointment. BRC used to be one of my favorite places. I am so bummed to see the new«chef inspired menu». They took off some great menu items. Want meat in your queso? Out of luck. It is now more like a salad with some melted cheese — filled with large chunks of tomato and onion, while the portion was considerably smaller. The overall menu has been truncated, while some of the prices are higher. I guess I must not be the only one that feels this way. The restaurant only had about 4 tables during lunch. We used to come here and have to wait. Hate to say this, but not sure I’ll be back again anytime soon. #menufail

I went to BRC about 6 months ago and loved it. Everything my group ordered was delicious, and there were several items we wanted to come back and try. My macaroni with pork belly was really great. The wait staff was also very knowledgeable about the food and beer selection. So I was excited to go back today. Unfortunately, they now only serve a very small, limited menu. We decided to order several dishes to see what we liked best. The biscuit and bacon jam was, of course, awesome. But nothing else wowed us at all. The shrimp avocado toast was literally diced shrimp, diced avocado, and a big squirt of straight-from-the-bottle sriracha sauce on top of toast.(I don’t know what I expected, but it was really boring.) It seemed like the kind of dish you make at home when you’re broke and hungover and don’t want to go grocery shopping so you just throw together whatever’s in the fridge. My friend’s tomato basil soup was bland and reminded her of off-brand canned soup. My French fries were seasoned well, but were crunchy to the point that it was more like eating potato sticks. And the«macaroni of the day» was original cheddar mac with fried chicken. The macaroni itself was creamy and yummy, but the couple of bits of fried chicken were tasteless and had no crunch. There was also a handful of flimsy pieces of bacon thrown in that did not look very appealing, so I picked them out. The grilled cheese with tomato and arugula was pretty basic and uninteresting. Also, the bathroom stall doors in the unisex bathroom are pretty see-through. They are textured so you can’t see exactly what’s going on behind there, but I definitely got a blurry view of a man sitting on the toilet in the first stall. Thankfully, one of the stalls is tucked around the corner a bit so you’re not completely exposed, but I decided to hold it anyway. I’m not comfortable with the fact that every person who enters the bathroom can tell if I’m standing, sitting, or wiping my ass. Some things are sacred. Now I do have to say that our server was excellent! I wish I had gotten her name. She had reddish hair and her winged eyeliner was on point. She really knew the menu, answered all of our questions, and even tried to work with us to recreate something we’d had during our first trip that was no longer on the menu. She was awesome and deserves a raise! Right before we left, we were handled a couple of punch cards to use on our next visit to earn a free lunch entrée. But we left them on the table, since we’re probably not going back.

I can’t tell you how many different managers with new chefs and new ideas have come through here the last few years. They have turned one of the best happy hours in town($ 3 pints, $ 8 burgers) into a joke. Now a burger is $ 10, plus extra for bacon(which use to come with it). They have an early bites menu, but not sure the point of it when the price is the same for everything on both early bites and the regular menu? Everything has gone up in price almost across the board, and the menu has been severally downsized. Basically an overpriced burger, overpriced skirt steak, and overpriced fish is the extent. Beer selection still strong though, and the bartenders are always quick and courteous. Food as it stands now is not bad, but not near the quality or the uniqueness it once was. Most of the attention for this group seems to be going towards all their other concepts it seems, and what was once their flagship is now floundering. An empty bar at happy hour is all the proof you need, when at 5:00 in the afternoon used to be standing room only. I miss the old Big Red Cock(I don’t think anyone has ever heard me say that in any context).

For a year my husband and I were regulars at this place. We loved the beer variety but specially the quality of the food. We were so sad to go back and find out their menu is different, their most amazing burger is not what it was. . As far as beer variety they have tons of amazing options! But as far as the food, well it isn’t what it was. Please bring it back.

I can’t get pass the Chicken and Eggs biscuit sandwich. It’s the only entrée I order when I come here. It’s so good and even though it is $ 18.00 there is a lot of food. I can only eat one and I eat the other later. They have good french fries too.

I’m sad! Been wanting to try this place out and Houston Press voted their Chicken Fried Steak as the best in Houston but I was extremely disappointed. The batter had NO flavor and fell apart easily. Not like other CFS that I’ve had. It just had absolutely no flavor. For $ 20 I definitely expected a lot more. I got their Mac n Cheese of the week. It had pork belly, bacon and bbq sauce. Sounds amazing right? No … after they brought it out I could tell I probably wouldn’t like it based on the color. You couldn’t taste the cheese! Just the sauce with bbq and pork belly. I don’t mind paying more for food but $ 15 for something with no flavor is no bueno. My boyfriend got the burger and that was the only item that was very tasty! Double patty and he added bacon. Yum! Atmosphere is nice but food is below average and overpriced for what you get. I only ordered one drink, red Sangria and that was average. I will say service was quick. Food came out quick especially for a busy Friday night but I’d rather wait a little longer for with more flavor.

After being a semi-regular at BRC for the last several years, last night should be regarded as our last visit. The new«chef inspired» menu appears to be quite uninspiring. The net is that the menu of formerly great items has been dramatically reduced and the prices have been raised. When asked why, we were told that they could not continue to get locally sourced organic ingredients and offer a large lower cost per item menu. Hmmm! They charge $ 2.00 to cut your burger in half if you are sharing. The kale salad as a side is $ 7 and is about ¼ the size of the $ 10 full portion. I was overcharged for an egg on top of my burger(which I cut in half myself) and it was just not worth arguing with our unfriendly waitress. Lastly, the place was practically empty at dinnertime. There are so many great restaurants in town and many that offer a decent Happy Hour that runs past 6:00pm. I am afraid it is the beginning of the end for BRC and this honestly and sentimentally makes me sad! New to Houston? Pass this place up…

I’ve always liked BRC. I came for the first time two years ago and got a delicious special they were offering on a pork dish. I’ve come a handful of times since, mostly for brunch. They offer $ 10 sangria carafes and $ 12 mimosa carafes !!! I’ve had the chicken fried steak and the biscuit/bacon jam. The breakfast Mac n cheese was so decadent but so good. We talked about it for weeks afterwards They’ve recently changed the menu.(Like within the month, maybe. I was there 2 – 3 weeks ago) it’s smaller, things have changed(quantities per order, etc). They’ve taken a lot of things off the menu that I definitely noticed and am not that pleased with. Not sure what the changes are about but have noticed other FEED restaurants(Liberty Kitchens) have done the same. I ordered the deviled eggs and it seems like they’re all served with a buffalo coated piece of fried chicken. Not the biggest fan. My favorite part of these has always been the tangy/salty taste of the bacon jam you could actually taste. The biscuit/jam order is now just one biscuit. :/ I won’t say I’m opposed to BRC though it’s just something to think about when deciding where to brunch now.

BRC Gastropub counts Liberty Kitchen and a few other Houston restaurants in its family. BRC serves up absurdly heavy food, so come if you’re looking for a great time and food covered in meat, cheese, and ranch. I came to BRC twice: once for dinner with colleagues, and once more for brunch with a mentor. It was hard to find a vegetarian meal for dinner. I ended up with this intense iceberg lettuce salad with two eggs on top. If a salad could be described as aggressive, then I’d imagine this salad could probably use an anger management class. Brunch options were a bit better; I asked for no bacon. It’s that kind of restaurant. The mac and cheese I ordered for brunch came with two sunny side up(sunny-side up… sunnyside up… sunny-side-up?) eggs on top, which were the most satisfying part of the meal. The mac and cheese itself was a bit ordinary. BRC call me out if I’m wrong here, but I kind of expected it to be made with cheese that I could say, «Hey that looks like cheese.» It tasted like it was made from a cheese sauce or powder with a bit too much milk, much like you would at home with a box of Kraft. I slathered hot sauce all over it and that dramatically improved the experience. The service was great to me. But our server was at war with the table next to us, which had four teenage-ish girls. The tension was palatable. Listen, if you drive your car here, try to snag a spot out front. Otherwise, you’ll be stuck parking on what NASA might actually have used to simulate the surface of the moon. BRC is a restaurant I would be comfortable coming back to, expecting whiskey beers and carbohydrates covered in cheese and ranch. I couldn’t eat that every day, but there are days that call for such devastation to the body.

This place is definitely one of my favorite brunch spots! The food is fantastic and they do a great presentation. The fried chicken and biscuits is my favorite!

Go for the scene, not the food. The ambiance is very trendy, and a great place to do brunch or grab drinks with friends. The food is definitely trying, but to be truthful, there’s nothing special about it. It’s not bad, it’s not good. It is, however, a bit overpriced for what it is. Like I said, this is a great place if you feel like being social and taking snapchats with pretty wallpaper behind you, but don’t go expecting a life changing or even memorable meal regarding flavors.

This place is fantastic!!! They have an extensive, and quite good beer selection, a must for my wife, friends and myself! As for the food, everything on the menu sounded delicious: –The beef short rib poutine came in what can only be described a trough! Perfect for what it was, a humongous amount of fries, with gravy and so much meat! — cheddar biscuits and bacon jam with fried chicken: yum! That bacon jam ALONE is worth it! — BILT better chicken sandwich was awesome, I would have stolen it off of my wife’s dish had she let me. Spot on perfection! — The BRC burger was a solid burger! Good meat, well seasoned, perfectly medium. FYI, the steak fries are huge, it’l like someone didn’t feel like cutting normal fries so just quartered a potato lengthwise and fried it. Good but a bit over whelming. For dessert, my wife and I could not resist the salted caramel cake and it was AMAZING! The flavor, the texture, the cake itself, everything was awesome! We also had great service, meaning the holy trifecta of good food, good beer, and great service was complete! We will definitely be coming back here!

The restaurant was an average brunch/lunch spot. The menu didn’t include any vegetarian options, so I asked for their gorilla style tacos without any meat(lolz.) I wasn’t expecting much, so was pleasantly surprised when the tacos had eggs, avocado, and cheese. It was delicious! Overall, portions were enormous, but the waiter was what brought this rating down a star. She definitely seemed like she didn’t want to be there. pretty much the entire time. We got a smile from her at the end though!

They have a spacious cute patio. The interior is well decorated and dim with a contemporary looks. It doesn’t look or feel like a pub at all… more of a restaurant to me. I came with some friends on Thursday and we got a table right away. The waitress was attentive and nice. Braised & grill short ribs w/Irish buttered grits(5⁄5) — this dish was the highlight of the night! Deviled eggs $ fried oyster(4⁄5) — it was interest and pretty tasty Poutine(4⁄5) — it has a distinct taste but it was really good Wings(5⁄5) — I love the grilled smoked taste and it’s just simply delicious. Beef sliders(3⁄5) Overall, BRC impressed me with delicious food and a variety menu :)

one moment I didn’t mind the waiter, he was n a rush and looked annoyed since I was asking questions… despite it being noon on a Monday and we were the only table outside… but maybe he was the only waiter there… other times he was friendly and even brought out a sample of fruity beer to a friend of mine… but once I got the bill and saw he charged us 3 dollars for sliced jalapeños(about ½ a jalapeño I wasn’t happy. I suggested he tell thru customers that a condiment like they will be 3 dollars or even that he would have to charge us… and sorry but if you cans get a pound of they for .78 that’s just a total rip off… the waiter apologized, I still tipped him 20% even though he was attitudy but whatever everyone’s got bills. the michelada was very watered down; we all three thought it… I was thru only one stuck with it when round two came along and again… it was really watered down… I asked for more mix(which apparently doesn’t have sugar or corn syrup in it). the burger. the bun came out cold, the burger parti was bland and prolly a few days old, the special sauce wasn’t special; I mean ask for ketch up and mayo and the side salad was boring. I hear that people love this place but I’m seeing my taste is like the other people here … at least not for gluttonous American pub food… this is like the third strike my friend had… I do think most people would like this place; there are cool tables outside with shade, it’s a dog friendly establishment and happy hour starts at three; they only serve beer and wine and all the gluttonous food your clogged heart would desire.
