Average bbq fries were fresh & delicious. The beef was tender & juicy. The sauce was very bland & restrooms are nasty

I love this place my parents have been coming here since it opened decades ago. I’ve continued the tradition. Best value BBQ in the city. It has great cuts of brisket and the potato is enough for a meal all on its own. I always get the BBQ plate and on rare occasion get the chopped beef sandwich. It’s great quality BBQ at a reasonable price!

A place like this sheds light on why Houston had a reputation for bad BBQ. The best thing here were the fries, and I think that says it all. The brisket tasted not smoked at all, no flavor, and had stringy fat all along the edges. The ribs were terrible, ordered a half order to try and neither person finished it. Sandwiches were half eaten at end, only ate because paid for it/hungry. The place is clean and has an old time feel, but the food is straight up not worth it. Won’t be coming back. Maybe the burgers are good though?

No thanks — how can you serve BBQ and not have ANY smoke at all? Isn’t that what is supposed to be Texas BBQ? The fatty brisket was moist, but had zero flavour. The sausage was just okay, kinda hard to screw up sausage. The ribs were smothered in sauce — really? REAL Texas BBQ requires no sauce at all — its totally optional. The pork ribs are okay, but again, why smother them in sauce? The sides were forgettable — the only savings grace was the potato salad, but who goes to a BBQ place for the potato salad? Vote with your dollars folks — don’t bother with this place. Not quite a complete fail, but there are plenty of other BBQ places worthy of your money.

3 stars for decent take out brisket that cost $ 11.95 per pound. Would not recommend for a dine in trip. Would also not recommend the sauce. If you’re having a party, I’d pick something up from Rudy’s(not Goode Company), but this is good for weekday dinner takeout with a side salad you make yourself and you provide the sauce of your choice. Now that expectations are where they need to be, enjoy this local brisket source.

Yum yum! Love beef and bun! Great place to pick up some good bbq quickly for a week night dinner. Portions are huge. My husband always gets the beef plate with a baked potato and has two meals out of it. I’ve shared the bbq beef sandwich with my mom many times because it’s so huge. Love beef and bun. Have been going there for years. Just don’t really enjoy dining inside. It’s kind of ugly.

I had to update my last review after eating here a couple of times. The difference? I had the unfortunate task of needing to use the restroom and had to go behind the door leading to the restrooms. After seeing and smelling the kitchen and hallway, I will never come back. The kitchen and hallway was filthy and there were crates and boxes of food stored directly on the floor. What the heck!!! When I finally got to the restroom, it wasn’t as bad as the kitchen and hallway! This is sad because I really liked the food, but I am never coming back.

Don’t be fooled by the 5 star ratings. This place is not good. Took 2 bites and stopped eating because it was so bad. The sauce is watery, links not cooked properly and they nickel and dime on refills and bread. Don’t waste your money.

The good: 1. Beef brisket is reasonably tasty and is tender. However, in my view the flavor was not outstanding.(Note: I like more spicy food with flavor or a great beef taste; their sauce is mild and was a little disappointing for me as a result) 2. Plenty of meat. 3. Beans are good, again use same sauce as the meat Not so great A. Sauce was mild, almost bland. B. Price for brisket sandwich was high. Over $ 9 for a sandwich seems a little steep. While I want to rate it higher than three stars, in truth I think it only by the skin of its teeth make it to three. This is not the worst nor the best barbecue I’ve had. As this place is not close to where I live, work or normally hang out, I doubt that I will be visiting again. Life is too short touring bad beer or eat only so-so barbecue. P’s — not a ding on the food, but dirty plates were sitting out on several tables while the crew seemed to be all gathered in the back watching television.

Best BBQ in Houston and I personally got to meet the owner who took the time to enhance my experience. If you are looking for mouth watering tasty bbq look no further. If you leave hungry then you didn’t finish your plate because there is plenty of food. Highly recommend this place !

This place is incredibly good and the portions are as good as the food. Houston has many little food secrets this place is one of them for most. This is not the fancy place that some places decorate to be then lack in portions value and taste. This is a true bbq joint. It is clean and stuck in the 70 s. The most modern item in the place is the napkin holder. The meals here will have your mouth watering. You will not leave hungry and you will leave knowing real barbeque truthers. Lol.

My family has attended this restaurant for over 20 years. We have always loved it., However, since new owner took place, the service started to get bad. last time I went there, the staff was so rude! I got there 30 minutes before closeing time and they told me they were closing the register and couldnt serve me and asked me to leave! the food is great — I love their brisket. But they need to remodel that place — its looked the same for the past 30 years, and get more polite staff.

I had dinner there tonight trying their half chicken plate with two sides. I ordered the potato, salad and beans. With a small tea with tax the bill came to $ 10.73 which is quite affordable. This restaurant is in a somewhat run down shopping center on Long Point and I wasn’t expecting much. Unfortunately, I was right… The potato salad was very good a 3.5 for sure. The beans were your basic ranch style beans and I am stretching to give them a 3. The chicken was bland along with the BBQ sauce. Now remember, I didn’t try any of their beef but the chicken is something I can say I have had a lot better. Their prices are low and the restaurant spartan. If you do come here and like creamy potato salad you will like theirs. Since I rarely come through this part of town I doubt I will return. If I did, I would try their brisket but since I didn’t care for their sauce maybe I would just get some potato salad to go…

The bbq itself is 2 stars, but I’ll bump it up to 3 stars just because they give you such great portions for the same price as other bbq places. That’s probably why it’s been in business for over 40 years. I’m pretty much in agreement with Jon B, our resident Houston BBQ reviewer. Brisket doesn’t have any smoke, and it’s pretty much like roast beef. You need sauce to go with it. The ribs were bad. The meat was overcooked and parts of it was like eating jerky. Again, use the sauce. What was surprisingly good was the ham and sausage! The ham wasn’t just your typical salt meat, but it had some good depth of flavor. In fact, I enjoyed the ham the most! I saw some people getting the stuffed baked potato, as I’ll probably get that next time I’m here. That thing was the size of a small baby! So don’t come here expecting Franklin’s BBQ, but keep an open mind and an empty stomach!

Got a sausage basket for lunch a couple days ago and am just not impressed. The service was efficient but seriously unfriendly. The BBQ sauce was okay, but too sweet for me, I like spicy. The meat was meh, the bun and fries were soggy. I won’t be going again… definitely not my thing.
